  1. Hello all This should be an easy one but for the life of me I can't figure it out, should add I am a noobie so please go easy. I found a step by step instructional for drawing stairs with winders put there is one step that I can't get to work. The site says for step 3 "Next, create a second set of stairs with the bottom of the first tread snapping to the top of the last tread of the section created in step 2. Draw the number of treads to be the Winder section." OK, when I draw the second section it always snaps to the floor, not to the top of the first section of stair treads. I always start the second section at the point at the top of the first section when the cursor is a blue circle with a red box around it, at the middle of the top tread of the first set of stairs. How do I draw the section section so that it starts at the top of the first section, so that it is a continuation of the first section? Thanks for the help Malcolm
  2. Me again with a newbie question. I am used to Autocad and Revit when it comes to dimensioning. I find using the dimensions in Chief Architect quite difficult to impossible so I am assuming I am doing it wrong. My biggest pet peeve is when I am drawing and I pick a wall to verify it's location CA will then show some temp dimensions. These dimensions are invariably to the wrong walls or on the wrong side of the wall, etc. I invariably have to grab my calculator to add or subtract wall thicknesses, or add dimensions because the dimensions shown are to a different wall, etc. Is there a way to cycle through dimensions? Does this make any sense?
  3. I have a reno project where I have to draw the exiting roof system of the home. The client is adding an addition to the side of the home so we need to figure out the new roof lines. Anyway, the home is basically U shaped with the garage forming one end of the U and bedrooms the other. The inset of the "U" is the entrance. The roof is constructed of trusses with a raised heel and bottom chord overhang (the overhang is level with the top plate of the wall). The roof has a gable over the garage and bedroom "wings" but is hipped everywhere else. The roof slope over the "Wings" is 10/12 and over the main house is 6/12. When I set the roof properties to roof truss and then the height over the top plate to 14" for a raised heel then get Chief architect to build a roof it then ignores these properties all together. Is there a way to draw this roof without too much trouble? It's causing me (a newbie) fits. Thanks for any help.
  4. As a new user of Chief Architect I have a question about dimensioning elevations. I've used Revit before and liked how it automatically did the level dimensions in the elevations (Height of first floor, second floor, etc). That is all I want for dimensions in the elevations at this stage but when I click Auto Elevation Dimensions every thing that can be dimensioned is dimensioned. Is there an automatic way to callout the floor level heights or will I have to manually add them? Thanks
  5. Jay_on_Cape Thanks, that did it. Worked like a charm. Thanks everyone.
  6. What I mean by the 1.5 story garage is there is a room over the garage, the room has 4' kneewalls with the roof starting on the kneewalls. The ceiling in this room would be at 9' so that there would slope from the kneewal until they reach 9' then be flat in the center. Does that make sense?
  7. Hello all, I am working on a home that is full two stories and an attached 1.5 story garage. I am new to Chief Architect and am having a hard time figuring out what to do. I've seen a few videos and online tutorials but they just deal with a home that is 1.5 story. When I follow these my project ends up being entirely 1.5 story. How would I go about drawing this project (part full story and part 1.5 story)? Probably is quite straight forward but just can't wrap my head around it. Thanks for any help...
  8. Thank you HumbleChief.
  9. I am looking at Chief Architect. I see that we can edit the wall types for what we need for each project. Is there a way to create a log wall so I can do log home plans? Thanks.
