  1. Whenever I show door labels on the elevations the labels of interior doors are shown as well. This is confusing. The interior door labels are shown whenever the door is seen through a window. Is there a way to turn off the interior door labels?
  2. Thanks everyone, I appreciate the time and effort you all took to resolve my question. I ended up going the molding polyline method. There were 5 different decks (small apartment building) and each deck was a different size. Using the molding polyline method was quick and the results were exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again.
  3. No, I haven't tried moldings. Will give it a shot, thanks.
  4. I've attached an image of the railing symbol I've created. What the architect wants is a glass panel centered on the newel as shown. She also wants two rails as shown (attached to the outside edge of the newel posts) except the rails are to be continuous by the newels. As you can see the rails stop at each newel post. Is there a way to get the rails continuous? Thanks
  5. Perfect, Thanks Gene. I looked all through the object info and didn't see this option at all. I'll have to update my profile. Thanks again Gene
  6. My exterior walls typically are 2"x6" stud, sheathing with 2" rigid insulation and 1"x3" strapping then wood siding. The 2"x6" stud wall is on the main layer and everything else I've listed are on the exterior layer. This way when I build the foundation the concrete wall lines up with the 2"x6" wall. The drawback is the door and window casings are drawn on the main layer only with the rigid insulation, strapping and siding standing proud of the casings. I would like the casing at the strapping layer. Is there a way that this can be done and the concrete wall still line up with the 2"x6" wall? Thanks for any help.
  7. I have an odd roof line I would like to show in CA. The attached file shows what I did as a conceptual drawing in Autocad, I used a mesh to draw the roof line. Basically, its a mono slope roof with a twist (literally). The high point of the monotruss on the front is on the opposite side than on the back. There is probably a name for this shape but I don't know it. If this can be done within Chief that would be great. Thanks all for any help. 0216-019 Beaver Harbour Preliminary Floorplan For Roof Autocad Layout1 (1).pdf
  8. Thanks Don, That did it. And thank you Eric for your help as well.
  9. Thanks, While that does work for me the only drawback is it then applies different number s for every window even if they are identical. Just wondering if there is a way to manually renumber a window.
  10. Hello all, I have a situation where I have three very similar windows. They are the exact same size and overall construction, a double transom window over a double window. The differences in the windows is one window the bottom double window is op/fixed, the next window is fixed/op and the last window is fixed/fixed. The problem I am having is they are all showing up as the same window in the schedule, in this case are all listed as W20. Is there a way I can change the window numbers? Thanks for any help.
  11. Is there a way to import terrain data from Google Earth? We used to be able to do that through Sketchup but now that Sketchup has been separated from Google there isn't that functionality anymore. Is there a way to take an image of the site from Google Earth and import it into Chief so that I can show the house on the site?
  12. I am creating a curved roof over an entry and would like to know if there is a way to adjust both angles (eave and ridge or even the radius). Now when I adjust one the other angle and radius automatically adjusts to a number that I can't work with in this case. This roof starts as a 3/12 standard roof for 3' then curves up to the gable wall. I split the roof in two horizontally and have the first portion a standard 3/12 sloped roof and then the upper second portion to be curved. So, I would want the angle at the curve at the "eave" (in this case the intersection of the two slopes) to match the lower 3/12 slope (approx 14 deg) and have the angle at the ridge to be 30 deg. When I set the angle of the eave at 14 then set the angle at the ridge to 30 then angle at the eave changes to -1.9 degs. When I change one the other changes automatically. Is there a way to lock one angle like there is to lock slope and heights of a standard sloped roof?
  13. Hello all, I've been asked to export drawings to DWG and when I do the walls, cabinets, furniture and window, door and elevations callouts are filled with solid colour. I would like to remove this fill as it doesn't add to the clarity of the drawing. While it looks great within Chief Architect it doesn't translate well to Autocad. Problem is this solid fill is on the same layer as the rest of the wall, cabinets, etc. so I have to tediously pick them one a t a time and delete them. Is there a better way? Can I disable the solid fill within Chief architect? Any help will be appreciated.
  14. Thanks Perry, I will attempt making the symbol but if all else fails maybe just add cad lines to show the operation directions.
  15. Is it possible to show windows as tilt-turn windows? I've searched here and online and haven't found anything on this topic. In elevation a tilt-turn window has an operating symbol similar casement window AND an awning window combined since the window can be opened as a casement window or an awning window (hinged at the bottom though in this case). Thanks
  16. I have imported a satellite image of the the lot a house I am working on will be built. I have the house drawn and located on the map as requested by the client. I've also, imported the survey plan DWG and it is situated on the drawings as well. Now I am trying to plot out the drawing and am having a problem. When in plan view the satellite map shows only as a rectangle depicting it's location. But if I try a 3D view then the lines of the survey map do not show up. Is there a way to see the map image in plan view or the lines of the survey map in the 3D views? For some reason I cannot get all three items in any view (Map, survey map (lines) and the floor plan).
  17. Whoops, sorry for the double post.
  18. I am having an issue with adding a glass panel railing to a set of stairs. I found a tutorial on the Chief Architect website and followed it. Now, if the stairs are not connected to a landing ( as shown in the first picture attached) everything works great. If the stairs are connected to a landing then the railing slopes down instead of up (as shown in the second picture). If I were to move the stairs so that it isn't connected to a landing and place the railing everything works great but if I were to grab the stairs and railing and then move it into place against the landing then the railing reverts to the second image. This has worked on other projects but for some reason I can't get it to work here. Any help will be appreciated.

  20. I am working on a building that has a central foyer that has 12' ceilings and two "wings" (one on each side) that have 8' ceilngs. The roof of the wings starts at the 8' wall height and the roof of the central foyer starts at the 12' height. This means a portion of the wall between the foyer and each wing will be above the wing roof on the exterior. In the 3D drawings this is shown as having an interior finish as that is the wall type chosen. I have tried different ways to have that show as exterior finish to no avail. I tried to "force it" by changing it to a pony wall and that just created more problems than it solved. Then strange things happened...I would save the drawing and when I reopened it all the corner boards would either disappear or strangely appear on interior walls. Door ways would disappear in the 3D but be there in the plan (turns out the doors are there but the opening in the wall had disappeared....and a few others as well. Anyway, I have seen similar setups on CA before that looked great and know that I am making a rookie mistake here (I have actually watched a video on Youtube that addressed this but have forgotten the technique and now can't find the video). Any help will be appreciated.
  21. Hello all, I did find an old discussion topic on this topic and the response was that it could not be done in CA. That was 8 years ago...can this be done with the newer versions of CA? Thanks.
  22. Thanks for the reply Bill, But the wall is showing as an interior wall. It has interior finish on both sides.
