  1. I tried that (Selecting the double lined railing and continuing to the wall) and nothing changed. I'd post the plan but when I tired I was told the file is too large.
  2. No, the railing section is not marked as invisible.
  3. Have an odd issue with railing on a roof. The house is unique with a "live" roof. The client wants a door to the flat roof from a second floor room. There is a section of the roof railing that will not appear in the elevations or renderings. In the floor plan it is shown as only a single line as opposed to the double line for every other section of railing. I clicked on it and that section of railing has all the same properties as the others. I've tried changing properties of the railing, roof and walls around the railing. No idea. Not sure if there is enough here to see what is going on here but any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  4. Is there a way for the window and door opening indicators to be visible on the Standard Elevation view? The Opening Indicator layer is turned on. They are visible in a Vector Elevation view. Are just not available in the standard view? Client likes the standard view over the vector and I've just drawn them in manually. Would be nice though if it could be done automatically. Thanks in advance
  5. Is there a way to create a new window type to add the Marvin Skycove to the program? I've tried editing box windows and can get very close but can't get the top of the box window to look like the skycove. The skycove has a sloped glass top. Any help would be appreciated.
  6. Nevermind, I did a search on this forum (I know, should have searched before) and have set the defaults properly for this project.
  7. I have a question about room heights changing without my input. I am working on a large two story home. At the beginning of the project I set the ceiling heights for the basement (9'), main floor (10') and the second floor (9'). I just began a cross section and was surprised to see that the room heights have changed. The basement ceiling height is now 10'-6", main floor is 9' and the second floor is 8'. Is this something others have experienced? And is there an easy way to change the ceiling heights for the entire floor?
  8. My client wants a curved section of deck with a set of steps (probably only one tread) that follows the same curve. Is there a way to do that with the stairs tool? Or, since it's probably one tread, jst make it work with another tool? I've attached the drawing the client sent showing what they have in mind.
  9. Yes I was using the %scale% macro in a text box located in the layout border. But, it seemed to work before. Anyway I followed your advice Chopsaw and added %box_scale% macro within the layout box label. This looks like it works. Thanks for your help Chopsaw and Michael
  10. Chopsaw, the scale on the PDF shows 1":1". Michael - I'm not sure what you are asking. I just click the "Send to layout" icon on the menu and "Send to layout" dialog box pops up. I check the page I want and I confirm the 1/4":1' scale is checked. Then send it to layout. Then scale is shown as 23/64":1' or 47/128":1' and then 1":1" once it has been printed to PDF.
  11. Lately when I send plans to layout the scale is different than what I request. When I send a floorplan, elevation or section to layout the scale is set at 1/4":1'. But, once the drawing is in layout the scale is shown as either 23/64":1' or 47/128":1'. This is something new as it was always shown as 1/4":1' before. I don't know if I had changed something in default settings or what. Any help would be appreciated. I am running Chief Architect Premier X12 if that helps. I've attached two pics if that helps
  12. I attempted to edit the default settings to how I wanted them but have a couple questions... First one...I mistakenly set the default base molding as crown molding. So, now the base molding is shown at the ceiling. I can't seem to find this setting to correct it. Secondly, I've set the default wall type for interior and exterior walls with the materials I want (I've also changed the Materials section of the settings to match). But, once I've started to layout the drawing some of the walls have the original default materials and some have the new default. For example, I've changed the material of the Wall (Interior) to white from "drywall". Many of the walls will be white and some will be "drywall". I've gone through the entire list of the settings to change the defaults to what I want but there must be something I am missing. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
  13. At times I work with log houses and would like to do them up in 3D. I used to use standard Autocad and rendering software but it was a bit cumbersome and not worth the extra cost to the client. I've also read a tutorial on the Chief Architect site about doing log homes by applying log siding to the house after it has been drawn up. Looks a bit cumbersome as well. Has anyone out there used Chief Architect for log homes? Or would you have an alternative software option. Just looking for the ability to supply the customer with basic 3d renderings (raytracing not necessary) to show clients for their review. Thanks
  14. Is there a way to add a double top railing as shown in the attached pic? Or should I just either add it in manually or make a symbol?
  15. Thanks, that did it. Just unclicked the opaque glass option. Thanks for your help.
  16. Not sure what you mean by camera technique options. I went through the camera default settings and couldn't find anything there.
  17. I am seeing this in the elevations and the full camera views. In a raytrace the windows are transparent.
  18. Here is a n00b question....somehow I've set glass to be opaque (no matter what glass I use it is all opaque even though the actual material has transparency set into it). How do I undo this? Thanks for any help.
  19. Thanks for the suggestions, turns out I didn't select Split wall assemblies into layers. Works fine now.
  20. I have a client that would like the plans in DWG format. But when I convert to DWG the walls don't convert properly. It seems that the main layer of the wall is the only thing that converts, both the interior and exterior layers do not convert to the DWG. It is a complex wall with few items on both the interior and exterior layers (Rigid insulation, a secondary 2"x4" insulated wall, strapping, siding, etc). All else seems to convert properly. Any help would be appreciated.
  21. I have a building with a walk out basement. There are retaining walls on either side of the sliding door. I use an elevation region between the retaining walls and then beyond the walls to set the lowest elevation. Then I used elevation lines to step the grade down from the highest to the lowest on the other side of the retaining walls. Once I build the terrain the actual grade seems to go berserk. There are depressions where there shouldn't be and even large mounds within the elevation region. The more I try to fix it the worse it gets. There are also dips in the retaining walls (the walls follow the grade nicely then suddenly dip down to the footing, then back up to the grade and continue to follow the grade) Is there a better way to do this?
  22. Thanks to both of you. Those videos are just what I was looking for!
  23. Hello All, Had a real estate client ask if we could supply them with interactive 3D views of a spec house we are working on. I know Chief can do renderings (Interior and exterior) and walkthroughs, etc. Is there any interactive options? As in the viewer can control where they go and what they look at on the real estate agent's website. Thanks for any help.
  24. That did it, would like an easier solution thought...oh well... Thanks
