  1. Thanks JKEdmo. I was able to do that with the macros but didn't want the inches mark included. But you do have a point that the inclusion of the inches mark would remove all confusion. I think this is the method I will use. Thanks again
  2. That's what I have to deal with! In my region (eastern Canada) most architects I have dealt with show a window that's 36"x56" as 3656DH. I've worked with a few manufactured housing companies and they show window sizes that way as well. So a 3656DH window is 36"x56" not 42"x66". It's rare for me to run into an architect or contractor who would show a 36"x56" window as a 3048DH.
  3. When I do preliminary drawings I don't do a window schedule. So the window sizes are shown on the label on the plans. For example, a 36"x56" double hung shows as a 3048DH (3'-0" x 4'-8" double hung). Problem is most architects, contractors and homeowners need to be told that the label is feet and inches not just inches. I know I can use supplied macros but from what I can see the result in this case would 36"x 56" DH. Is there a way to show it as 3656DH instead of the 3048DH? Once I add a window schedule the label is replaced with a call out and the size is in the schedule. I can't tell you how many times I have had to explain the labels in the preliminary plan are in feet and inches even when I add a note to the drawings explaining how to read the labels. Any help would be greatly appreciated
  4. Thanks for your reply, the client is looking for the gable to follow the cathedral ceiling.
  5. Thanks for your reply, yes I tried that and no luck.
  6. Hello all, Doing a project that has a grand porch with a cathedral ceiling. When the flat ceiling is checked for the porch the gable is shown. But when I uncheck the flat ceiling the gable disappears and place a cathedral ceiling in it's place the gable doesn't reappear. I've clicked the railing and in the roof section have clicked on the full gable wall. What am I doing wrong? I'm using X16. I'll attach a basic pic showing the missing gable wall
  7. Should add that I am using X16 not the X12 in my handle above
  8. Hello All I've been playing with 3D solids and have been getting weird results. In particular with cylinders. If I have a long narrow cylinder and want to subtract a portion of it using a cube the result is a strange shaped cylinder. I've attached a file showing what I mean. Is there a way to avoid the weirdness (Not sure how else to explain it)? I tried to attach the plan file but all I got were server errors. Any help would be appreciated.
  9. Thanks everyone, I'll give these a shot.
  10. Is there a way to do a house foundation that is a slab-on-grade with a frost wall? I've attached a section I grabbed online that shows what the client wants. There is probably an easy way to layout that foundation but I haven't figured it out yet. Anyway, I appreciate any help. Thanks for your time
  11. Hello All, I have a two story project with an open to above living area. There is a tall window that extends to the second floor. Is there a way for the window to show up on the first floor plans and the second floor plan?
  12. Thanks for your reply Renerabbitt I tried to post the plan file but it was too big. I ended up just starting from scratch. Not ideal, but it wasn't a large project.
  13. Hello All, Just looking for a bit of advice. I have an existing two story house w/ two car garage that has a full basement (under the house only). The client would like to change the basement to a slab on grade with 4' frost wall (attached a section of the type of foundation they'd like). There is a porch and deck. The garage floor is 24" below the main floor (I changed this to 12" for the slab, can be changed to whatever it needs to be to work). When I try to rebuild the foundation to this type I get lots of issues. The floor is 12" below the top of the stem wall in the house as well as the garage. There are other issues with heights of the rooms. The porch and deck floors are over 18" above the main floor level. Probably should be slabs as well? Anyway, would it make sense to start from scratch? I don't want to mess up the drawing too much. Thanks in advance.
  14. Is there a way to have a different colour for the window jamb than the sash? I have a project where the interior walls (also drywall return, no interior window casing) are white and the windows are black. The client wants the white drywall to continue to the sash so the jamb (is that what it's called) needs to be white as well. Problem is, when I change the colour of the sash to black the jamb is automatically changed to black as well. This is an odd wall, it's tall so was designed to be 2"x10" instead of the typical 2"x6" so the jamb is extra wide and really stand out when it's black. Any help would be appreciated.
  15. Hello all, Is there a way to show this roof to wall waterfall type effect? I can do the roof and the wall separately but its the point at which the roof transitions to the wall. I can't seem to get a smooth transition. I appreciate any help offered.
  16. Thanks Doug, the cross section slider works great. Thanks everyone for responding.
  17. Wondering if there is a way to clip the exterior or even the interior walls horizontally in the orthographic floor overview? For example, would it be possible to show the exterior walls at, say, 3' tall? I know you can hide the exterior walls facing the camera, Just wondering if we can show the walls shorter instead (included the windows and doors) Thanks for any help.
  18. Sorry, wasn't clear...my question was about a way to easily position one on each step.
  19. Hello All, Have a client that wants LED strips under the bullnose of the stair treads and along the underside of the railing. Is there a way to do that besides adding each one by hand? Any help would be appreciated.
  20. That was my fear. Thanks for your quick responses Chopsaw and Ben. Luckily the project is in it's infancy and will not take much time to recreate in X13. Was hoping to save a couple hours though.
  21. Is there a way to save a plan file as an older version of CA? Was sent an X14 file to work on but don't have X14. Similar to what Autocad allows... Thanks for your time,
  22. TL DR - Is there a way to import Autocad 3D objects into CA? I've tried and only the 2D objects in the drawing import. When I check the layer display options in CA the 3D layers are imported...just not used. Hello All About 15 years ago I did 3D drawings of log homes in Autocad. At the time I used Accurender to create renderings. This combination worked well enough for the projects I did at the time. Then the need for renderings dried up and I just continued using autocad for the construction drawings for the log homes (no 3D required). I've since moved over to CA for conventional home plans. Now an old log home customer is interested in a reno and would like to see it in a rendering. His house was one of the homes that I did do in 3D so the model is set to go but I do not have Accurender any longer. I can get a trial version for this one off but there would be a learning curve considering I haven't used it in over a decade and have lost all my materials I created specifically for the renderings. I tried to import the 3D drawing into CA and the 3D objects don't import. Is this a limitation or am I missing something (I usually am missing something)? Even if this is possible it may still not be the answer I am looking for. In the end I'm just looking for a way to render a "quick" reno to an old autocad model. Maybe the answer is it would not be worth the time and elevations in Autocad would be sufficient here. Thanks in advance
  23. Thanks robdyck, both those textures look great. I have to learn how to make my own textures.
  24. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a material/texture similar to the attached pic? I've looked online and cannot find anything. I figure it has too many different size stones to make a good texture. Thanks
