  1. Where is Wendy?

"Shadow Boards" were a big hot button for her.  I can only assume that it's commonly used in New England since that's where Wendy's from.

Basically, as used by Chief Architect the term refers to a piece of trim used on the Fascia which covers the edged of the roof sheathing and supports the shingles as they extend beyond the roof edge.  Generally, this is a piece of 1x2 or 1x3 wood - but it can be whatever size you specify.  It could even be a piece of 3D Molding (Egg & Dart, etc)

BTW, due to the fact that it can slow down render view manipulation, I don't recommend using 3D Moldings for this - or for that matter for much of anything else.  ;)

  2. You might also check that Door dbx, Material Tab and see what the name of the Glass is. I beleve it must specifically be "Door Glass" in order for it to follow the dictates of that Checkbox. The material you select will be irrellevant, but the name in the dbx is (I think) important.

Confirmed.....  I tried one of my Pocket Sliding Doors and assigned a Glass Material to a Panel of the Door Symbol.  It always shows as opaque regardless of the setting of that Checkbox.

  3. Larry,

I'm not sure I understand the problem at all.  There should be an opening indicator for the French Door - at least that's what I would expect unless you specifically ask for it to be suppressed.  It wouldn't have anything to do with if the glass was opaque or not.

  4. I have an older Plan that has a material designation that's not in my Library.  I would like to find where this material is called for so I can assign something else and purge the old material from the Plan.

How do I find where it's called for?  Please tell me it's possible without going thru every possible object.

  5. I tried activating X5 at home and it wanted to use an emergency password.

Activating X6 went as expected - login to account, deactivate X6 - activate as normal.  Chief does need to add all current licenses to the Web-Site.  I have x3, X4, X5 & X6 using software locks.  Prior versions 9.5, 10 & X1 I have dongles for.

  6. Ron,

It would to me make sense for CA to have all of our licensed versions available for deactivation. OTOH, there would be no way for X5 to tell you to do it because that code isn't built into X5. But if you had a way to get to the "deactivate" web page then it should be available.

I have X5 & X6 activated on my office system right now. I'll be home in an hour and check to see if X5's available for deactivation.

  7. BTW, There are Shaker Style Panel Doors (1 & 2 Panels) which can have the Panels assigned any material - including Glass.  In addition, there are Raise Panel Doors (2,4 & 6 Panels).

All of the Doors have 3 versions - Closed, 18" Open & 26" Open.

ps:  If you download the Library it would be nice if you'd boost my reputation.  ;)

  8. Importing Defaults doesn't Import the Roof Surface Default Material. I'm not even sure if it imports any of the Roof Defaults.

It seems to get the Defaults for other materials (windows, doors, cabinets, floor finish, etc) but not the Roof Surface.

  9. JOE,

The offset has me baffled. I'm just a stupid ole man as the troll says.

Open the Door Symbol in the Library.  On the General Tab set the x-origin to 15" (1/2 of the width of a 30" door).  This will move the 3D symbol so that it's 15" away from the strike side.  When you place that Door as a Pocket Door it will appear half open.

You can download theLibrary that I posted - it has symbols for "Closed, 18" Open & 26" Open".  Note that when you place one of these in a wall it will be "Hinged" which is of course not what you want so just change the Type to "Pocket".
