Hi Chiefs, I am on the precipice of resetting my computer because my disc space is almost gone on my computer. I am creating a backup using a 3 terabyte, using the "file history" tool in windows 10, which will easily contain the disc space. I am leery of the reset because A. I dont want to loose anything important to my company B. I dont want to loose any of the settings in Chief Architect C. I do not understand file back up that well, although I have read a few how to guides about it online. Can you please give me some tips of what to do, what not to do, and what to expect. Is there a way for me to select what programs I would like to keep before a reset? How long should it take for the file history backup take to complete for the first time (500GB) ? How long does the reset take? What have you experienced? Am I doing this right? Any help you could give will be eternally cherished, Thanks, AB

Horrific Non-Orthogonal Toggle / Open Below Stairs?
olyconstruction replied to olyconstruction's topic in General Q & A
Michael, thank you that was it the angle snaps! David, thank you for the help too, please see my You Tube comments! -
Hi Chiefs, I am working on an as built right now, and somehow I put this toggle on that makes my walls and lines want to default to a slanted line. There is a new icon next to my cursor now which is making ME want to curse! Can someone let me know what this nonsense is all about? What did I do? If you are also in the plan, I would love it if you took a look at the stairs. I am trying to show an open below condition over the stairs but I am having alot of trouble. I tried putting a box make of room dividers in the middle over the stairs but I got all kinds of wierd results like a box on the roof and a box totally enclosing the stairs. Maybe I am just tiered, but I think I am actually struggling. Please let me know what you think, Thank you! AB GORTON - AS-BUILT - 7-8-16.plan

Hey! So I tried the window symbol approach and it looks like it wont let me rotate it that way. I am going to try your method tomorrow Michael. Thank you for all the help too, you are really going above and beyond the call of duty and I salute you for it.

Thank you Jerry!

Well it looks like the file is too big to upload Alaska Son, All I know is that when I resize the schedule box to where it looks good, and go over to drag another schedule in to place, the first box will revert to its old shape, or more commonly, grow into some monstrosity schedule. It is weird that you have not experienced this, very weird. So Chopsaw, when you say separate layout box what is that? Please forgive me I am kind of new. Is that where you put your schedules on its own page, or is it some kind of tool where I can isolate the schedules and present them in layout independent from a particular layer set? Thanks so much for the help you guys AB

Thank you Sherry, That is a fantastic idea. You know what I am talking about then, the boxes keep changing size. Why does that happen I wonder...

Hi Chiefs, I am adding schedules to my plan set to drop over on to my layout and the boxs keep changing shape! I keep dragging the box to the size I want but when I go to edit something else it will revert to another size. It is really frustrating. Is there a setting to make them stay put? Is there something I am not understanding here? This is not the first time I have encountered this problem. Thank you very much, AB

Hi Chiefs, I have attached a screen shot. In it you can see these little "s" markers, they look like tags of some kind. I think they stand for "structural" but im not sure. What I want to know is what they are, and how to hide them. I dont want them in some of my layer sets. Thanks so much! AB

Right, my mistake

Also, Mr Hall, did you know you bear a resemblance to Judge Reinhold, the Hollywood actor?

It appears I have spoken too soon. I swear to you I had the window symbol in there and it had glass in the middle and placed right in the center of the wall like a window. I went back to check on it and it looks like just a window frame in a wall. I even reopened the plan to see if it was a random graphics issue but no dice. Very discouraging. Mr. Hall, I am not sure if you meant to call me Mark (I am Alex), but I have attached a plan with the sad broken window in it. It is on the back part of the model by the decks. Let me know if you can figure anything out from the symbols there, its particularly strange because the 3d preview in the DBX has a glass pane in it! Chopsaw, thank you for the schedule tip, but unfortunately it looks like I am back to the drawing board. I guess my next tactic would be to cut out a section of the wall and fill it in with a P-Solid and convert it to glass, unless you have a better or easier way. Let me know what you guys think! Okay, I have something that works now! Once the window is converted to a symbol, then it can be rotated. I am just kind of curious though, the windows that come from the window tool are not symbols already? What is the correct terminology for something created right out of the window tool and something converted to a 3D symbol? Also, does that mean they will not appear in the schedule automatically? Thanks so much, my original question has been answered. AB

Thank you for the help! Chopsaw - It is exactly like that. I was able to get the shape with the dimensions I need. The part I am stuck on now is rotating the window 180 degrees. Do you know how? Alaska Son - That thread was very helpful, it told me al ot of what I needed to know. When people say "window symbol", what does that mean? Is that like a collection of P-Solids? I am a CA freshman for sure, I am used to working in Revit. Does CA have a "family editor" feature where you can make your own imported fixtures or is it all SketchUp based? Thanks, AB

Hi ChiefTalk, I was wondering if anyone can help me out with a technique to create an angled window. I am doing a As-Built of this funky old house that has two weird angled windows. The bottom is 1' across, then goes up 5', comes back across 7' and then connects at a 45 degree angle. Is there a good workflow for creating these custom window types? Please let me know! Sincerely, AB

I appreciate the help Keithhe. I'm not sure how I ended up so far away form the origin but I will update that plan as well as my template. Thanks!

Here is the plan that I am having the issues with 2 STORY ADDITION.zip

I turned the wall into an invisible wall so it will not show regardless of where i move the camera. My Clip Surfaces Within is set at 36" and Remove Wall Within is set at 48"

Hello guys and gals, I was wondering if someone could help me figure out what is happening during my ray traces. I hid a wall to get this view and once i started the ray trace, i noticed a weird pattern on my Washer/Dryer. Has anyone ran into this while ray tracing? I have tried changing the material but it keeps giving me the same effect in the same two areas.

Awesome ill give it a shot Thanks

Yea kinda like that, but is it possible to show the sheathing and insulation? Or do those have to be added as 2D details?
-
I want to show a typical 2x4 Wall detail in an isometric view as opposed to a 2D view. I was thinking about trying to show just the wall framing in a 3D view and annotating that once i sent it to layout.

Hey guys i was wondering if someone could help me in the creation of a 3D Wall detail for a project. I'm still fairly new to CA and i have yet to discover how to achieve this. I have searched the forums as well as you tube but i have had no luck. Thanks, Armando
