  1. Keno 8 for the win!! I did not know that stairs cut walls like that. Hmm
  2. Here is a zip of the file Rosco. Drawzilla: I tried both those things after your suggestion but no results. Thanks for the help guys! JAMES_-PROPOSED_2_-_11-9-16.zip
  3. Yes, awesome! Thank you Alaska Son!
  4. So I tried this out and I can get the tag symbol to change size, but the text inside wants to stay the same. Is there any way to enlarge the text size?
  5. Hi Chiefs, I want the default size of my automatic window tags to be larger, where would I go to set that up. Thank you! AB
  6. Hi Chiefs, I am using this arched doorway as you can see in the attached image. You can also see that the door is sort of carving out a rectangle above the arch. Has anyone seen this before / know whats going on here? Thank you! AB
  7. Hi Chiefs, I have been working on these ray traces for the past week for a bathroom remodel. I have been making a little progress but I am still far from the quality that is expected from me. I was hoping I could post what I have right now and what settings I am using right now and have you folks sort of critique it and make some suggestions on how I can improve. The first picture (example) is the level I want to be at. The second picture is where I am today. I realize it is a much smaller room but the lighting quality is what I really need. q1 is my floor plan. It is from a ray trace only plan, I took some walls out to get a good angle. Added parallel light is 1200 lumens the point light is 500 lumens and the light fixtures are all at 100 q2 and q3 shows some of my ray trace settings. I have photon mapping on too. Please, please, please let me know what you think, I really need to figure out how to do this well. Thank you so much!
  8. Thanks Yoda, I will definitely start my next project with that in mind and try to do it the right way.
  9. Thanks guys, looks like I got the all star line up again. The situation that makes me ask is that there is this really funky as-built model I am working on right now. It has a really strange foundation and also a sort of post and beam roof extension thing going on. I was going to do all the footings first in concrete, then do all the foundation posts and beams with fur, then all the outside ones with the sort of aqua color. I realize that you will probably say: why dont you just use the post or beam or footing tools for all of that like a normal person? My answer to that: It did not occur to me until now. I am pretty comfortable working with Polyline Solids. They are pretty easy to control and sort of dummy proof. Am I going down a dark path right now? What are the disadvantages of this workflow? Guys I need help....
  10. Hi Chiefs, When I create Polyline Solids, the out of the box default material is concrete. Is there some place in settings that I can change the default material for Polyline Solids to something else, like wood, fir instance? Thank you so much!
  11. Thank you so much Dermot, I realized how the rotation dial works after I had posted. You are right, I think it is an easier system too. The problem with the file definitely is the size. It has some 9000 surfaces I think. Is there some way to simplify the object in chief? It is a really great symbol and I want to use it. That is why I was thinking of pulling it into another 3d modeling platform and re formatting it to a smaller file.
  12. Thanks for the reply Matty, That was my first thought too was to change the rotation angle to 0, or something else. Whenever I did that it would revert back to 90. I did mess with the + and - rotation buttons until I got what I wanted. (Also they do not update automatically at least not the hardware, I had to reload them to see the change.) I was hoping though that I would be able to adjust the degree of rotation in the text box, seems like I should be able to.
  13. Hi Chiefs, I need to import some .SKP and .OBJ files in to CA to show the specified fixtures for a bathroom remodel. SKP files seem to work best, sometimes when they come in however, they are rotated the wrong way. Does anyone know how I would rotate them to the correct angle after importing them as a CAD Symbol? The other thing I am having problems with are the OBJ files. Every time I bring them into CA, it becomes very slow and I have the same rotation problems. They are great object files, but I think they are just too large. Has anyone out there had any success converting the OBJ to SKP files to make them easier to work with? Please let me know if you are interested and I can send you the plan (its too big to upload? tried to upload an object file and it was too big?? 25 MB seems like a lot smaller download capacity than the last forums format had, whats the deal) I have attached a few screen shots that might be useful So to summarize the question: A: How do you rotate the default position of a cad symbol? B: how do you make a large OBJ file work for you, have you had any success exporting it as a skp from sketchup? Please let me know what you think, thank you so much, AB
  14. How do you report something to tech? Also thanks Alaska, I just deleted the solid, I could select it in elevation for some reason. It is weird though. Yoda, I was trying to model this strange fireplace/ chimney in the picture attatched. I think I could do it without the polyline solid tool. Do you think it is better to do this kind of thing in a seperate plan? Also thank you I will update my signature Thanks for helping me out Greg, I think I will be ok after I delete the object through elevation. Did you do the same or have a different solution? Thank you Kevin for helping me out too. Not sure whats going on with the slab but I will give it another look here. Thanks Everyone, AB
  15. Hi Chiefs, I am drawing this new as built, and i noticed this polyline in the screen shot. I tried to select it to delete it, but it does not want to let me. I refreshed the view and closed the file and reopened it but it was still there. I tried selecting it by opening another polyline and trying to match the properties by layer but it did not pick it up in the selection. It looks a lot like a polyline I drew in an elevation view, if you cut a section in front of the fireplace in the north most room you can see it. I was wondering if anyone can figure out what is going on here. Is it possible I copied from elevation to plan and created some sort of glitch? Please let me know what you think, thanks so much! 16. Hi Chiefs, I set this this ray trace last night. Coming back to the ray trace is like a box of chocolates for me, I never know what I am going to get. As you can see the metal appliances are reflecting the floor finish to an obscene amount. Can someone offer me some resources for good rendering techniques, or some personal tips on how to avoid things like this and other mistakes in rendering, and turn this cherry fudge into a peanut caramel supreme? Thank you very much! AB
  17. By the way I just made a cad block from the schedule and deleted the bad door. All is well! Thanks again!
  18. Thanks Shane! That did fix my window schedule problem but not phantom door. You said window in your post, did you mean the door? When I went and made a new schedule the door is still there somewhere?
  19. Hi Chiefs, I have attached the plan I am working on. If you look at the schedule on the first page you will see door 1 which is 39 1/2" wide I think. My problem is that I can not find it anywhere in my plan file!! Does anyone out there know how I would find it? Can anyone out there find it? I should probably know where it is considering I drew the darn thing but for the life of me I can not figure out where it is!! The other problem is that the windows are not numbered sequentially in the schedule, particularly the window schedule. How do I get them to show in numerical order and additionally what might be causeing them to show this way in the first place. Please let me know what you think! Thank you! 20. Aha! That will definitely solve the problem, great advice Joe! Do you anyone know how to mark something answered in this new Chief Talk Format??
  21. Hi Chiefs, I have a window I want to display in elevation and not plan view. Is there a way I can just "hide it on the plan view, or am I going to need to do some poly line solid / material region stuff? Thank you! AB
  22. Hi Chiefs, I do almost all my dimensioning from exterior drywall to exterior drywall, but my dimensions always want to snap to the stud layer. Is there a way I can change it to snap the way I want? thanks for the help! AB
