  1. Most of my layout sheets have general notes such as SEE SHEET A7.1 FOR SCHEDULES.  On occasion, depending on the project, the sheet with schedules may change to A6.1.  Is there a way to reference a specific sheets label so if that changes it will change in the note and not have to do it manually?  I do not think there is, but trying to reduce some of the things I miss when doing a final review.

  2. Not the answer I was looking for:

Unfortunately, we have not experienced this dialog not working. When you hit "Yes" it should open a file explorer window taking you to your archives folder, but you can always navigate to it yourself by going to your Documents folder > Chief Architect Premier X11 Data > Archives and then open the specific project folder you want to remove files from. Once in that folder, you can remove as many files as you want. You can also go into your preferences and adjust the Auto Archive Warning "Maximum Files" setting from 14 to however many you want (that will be the amount of files in that folder before that pop up appears).

Not sure what you mean about waiting to create the Schedule ?

I had to wait because of the way I was doing it.  Using the schedule, I would change the description of all the walls. But if I added another wall it would be the original without the description and hence and another row.  So I waited till I was basically done as it could be a real pain to fix.  Putting the walls in the library should solve this issue.  However a verbal description in the actual wall type would be better, but it does not exist.

I don't understand, you can have as many different interior walls as you like.  You can have a whole library of walls.

Yes, but the "description" is only going to work for the 9 walls you can make as a default.  The "description" is part of each wall segment on the plan and is not associated with the wall type, which I guess I was looking for.  So if I have 2 types of interior walls such as existing and new, I either have to wait until the end to create the schedule or cut and paste a wall to not mess up the schedule.  Similar to inserting a symbol, changing some info and then adding the symbol again.  It is the same symbol (or wall), but has the original info and now shows up in the schedule twice.  Walls are not as productive using cut and paste but would solve this issue.

  5. I will give that a go, but that only works for a few walls and would not work if you have more than one interior wall.  This still requires me to do the schedule at the end.  Maybe Chief can add a description field for each wall type in the future.

    What's wrong with my signature??

  6. I do a lot of commercial work and try to get 3D symbols for as much as I can.  However, in a pinch, I have created squares and circles, convert to 3d, then make a symbol.  I have put them both in equipment and furniture categories.   Copy and paste, change size and modify the descriptions etc.  Works like a charm.

  7. I am using the wall schedule as a legend and it works great, but I have to wait until the plan is complete before I can compile it.  Not sure if there is another option other than giving the walls a small paragraph as its wall type, which I am not sure a good option.  300862259_walllegend.thumb.JPG.6e2bb2e3998c55db8559cae5af66cf1d.JPG

After selecting the wall types I want to use, I go through each item in the schedule and add a more informative description.  However, if I then make a revision to the plan and add a new wall, I get another row in my schedule as this wall has the default description.

Curious if there is something I am missing to make this easier.  Being able to add a description in "Wall Type Definitions" would be the ideal answer.

Schedules will display based on "like" information pulled from the column headings that you choose to include..

Yes, that fixed it, now I need to figure out how 2 select the walls on both floors at the same so the description matches.  This info would be great if it was in the wall definitions and not for each seperate wall....

  9. Excited about this and still figurinf it out, however, this is bugging me.

I first did the as-built drawing and spent some time getting the wall schedule correct and how I wanted it.  I then saved and then saved as the new plan.  When I add new walls the schedule that came along from the original file does not update.  I had to go to tools and insert a new schedule and the new walls appeared in the new schedule only.

Hopefully there is just one checkbox I am missing, but I am befuddled.

1/4" per foot minimum scale for floor plans, no plan checker will work on that, they will ask you to put it in the proper scale, use larger paper if you need it to fit the page, 30x42 is the next size up.

I do a tremendous amount of commercial work and we use 1/8" and 1/16" scale all the time and never have had an issue with plan reviewers as long as the information is clear and readable.

  11. This is the floor system I tried to create and I am failing miserably. (Probably my lack of understanding of Chief in this area)

I have set the floor system up as 4" slab and then air space for the remaining 5' and I have no idea where I put the ceiling info, as part of floor structure? Or?

When I cut the section the area between floors is solid where I want to manually build bar joists:

I having been messing around for hours and hopefully someone with more experience will tell me exactly what I am missing or doing wrong.

Bar Joists will be supported by steel frame, just have not gotten that far yet.

We have also used 99designs with good success.

We have also used 48hourslogo  several times for about $29.  I usually offer a bit more $ to get more attention.

In either case, offer lots of feedback as the design options pour in and you will get much better results.

Did they do you logo, yours is more complex than I require, but I like it!!

  13. Well that little piece of technology is a little out of my budget.  My son, Mr. computer whiz has messed with it for hours, it works half the time for dimensioning a room and will not work at all in a dbx or even in MS Excel.  I have left numerous messages with support at Leica and no response at all.  I just can not believe this is not some thing that has benn mastered, it should be just a simple pseudo macro or program.  They work marvelously with an Ipad, so I just don't know.  Guess we will continue with the shouting across the room.
