If you've used every avenue of the software for at least a few years, You probably don't need to do much studying.

They did throw something at me that I don't often use which is plat line specifications.  Normally I import a PDF of the Plat, scale it, then trace the perimeter... so I had to teach my self pretty quickly how it's done while nearing the end of my 4 hours they give you for the exam.

Overall.  It wasn't too difficult, but be sure to read and reread what they are asking you for.  Some of it wasn't written very clearly.

    Thank you!!

sprinkle the words "software by Chief Architect" around on your website and other online marketing materials

legally you can't advertise that you are an architect unless you are licensed

yet, having those words will get notice by the google search engines etc :)

I made it very clear that I was NOT an architect but a designer

but those words are very helpful anyways :)

Non-design people don't know what Chief Architect is, as a brand.  But I do state in all my 3d designs that these are "design plans" for visual purposes only, and they are not construction documents.

Kate, as an interior designer, have you considered taking the Chief Architect Kitchen, Bath & Interiors course?  It’s available on-line beginning Oct. 26 or on demand at any time.  It may be a good starting point.  The certification exam is all encompassing – framing, foundations, roofs, site plans, interiors.  Some of those categories may or may not be relevant to an interior designer.  The Kitchen & Bath course will give you best practices and productivity tips.  Afterward, you can then consider if the certification exam is right for you.

Excellent suggestion. Wish there was a certification specifically for Kitchen and Bath and Interiors.  I believe that designation visible on my website does impact my credibility. Regardless, that course would make me better at what I do.  I actually do need to know more about framing/foundations/roofs for work on renovations and additions. Thanks for the feedback!!

    Hi @stager386

You and I are living similar lives.  I had the same though and recently took the CA certification.  If you have your SSA it's really not that expensive, and you get a retake if you 'fail'.  The 'exam' was relatively straight forward too, but they need an update in my opinion.  I took my exam a few months ago with X13, but I'm fairly certain the plan I needed to duplicate were from X5 or older.

Either way - it can't hurt.

Oh wow, why would they be using such an old plan?  My only hesitation to taking the exam is that I have been using CA for so long that I've developed a bunch of workarounds....bad habits I know.  I've used the personal training services and always come away with "wow, I should have been doing it like that all this time".  So I question whether or not I'm even close to being prepared to pass it.  I have Premier X14 and as it gets better, I am not so sure I've kept up with it.  Any tips as to how to best prepare for it?  Thank you!

I think the advanced training may help you. Having a certificate for a drafting program would mean nothing to my clients. Having a well designed website or IG, TikTok or Facebook marketing strategy would.

I am actually revamping my website as we speak.

  6. I use CA Premier and I have been thinking for a long time about getting certified. I already have an established Interior Design business, and offer CAD services. I am revamping my marketing strategies and hope that a certification will help.  I am assuming that I know a fraction of what CA can do. And I know I've used many workarounds for a long time. So I'd like to know if anyone who has taken the test recently has any advice on how to best prepare.

    Thank you!

You extend the path by moving the lead camera.  Then add extra cameras in between as required if you need them for adjustments.  Sometimes the stairs need to be reset with Ctrl + x then Ctrl + Alt + v or perhaps they don't quite make the connection to the upper floor.  I usually use the "best fit" first then make adjustment if necessary.

If that does not make sense then definitely post the file for a quick fix.by the "Solver".

Thank you.  I understand the process, it's just that it doesn't always let me extend the path because it won't grab onto the leading camera. It starts a new path. And getting the walkthrough to look smooth and professional is very tough.  And rendering it takes forever.  But just creating the path is frustrating.

Thank you.  It isn't working for me like this.  I am not able to add on to the walkthrough path after I have placed a couple cameras. And it won't go up the stairs for me.

To go upstairs just drag the end of the walkthrough path up the stairs.

    Stop anywhere along the stairs.

Chief will automatically continue the path up the stairs and continue it on the upper floor.

When you go up to the upper floor, the path should automatically be there, select it and start editing it.

When I get upstairs the camera is there but there is nothing to grab onto, to edit.  And like I mentioned earlier, there is no way to extend the path I've already created.  Also, when I make a path straight, then toggle advanced controls to do something else. my path reverts to a curved spline.  What am I doing wrong?

  10. I have 2 questions about creating a walkthrough even after watching the videos.

I can't seem to add on to my walkthrough path.  When I start, I am able to catch the keyframe that I just did, and add on. Once I make the path, however, I am unable to go back to it and extend it.   My other question is taking the walkthrough upstairs.  I can't make that work correctly. Do I have to create a second one?

Anyone want to chime in? Thank you so much!

This is a thread I started a while back and is fairly easy with even Windows Free Paint Program.....

Thank you for posting these.  I am having a hard time creating patterns when a client shows me a new tile they want to see on the floor.  I can't seem to repeat them and have them look right.  For example, we found a 3/4" penny tile for the shower. The sample from the store came on a 3"x12" board. I've tried creating the tile with one penny round, and tried it with the whole board. But it doesn't look random enough when add to the floor material. The penny tile already in Chief doesn't tell me size of penny and I can't make it look like the tile I am trying to replicate.

Thank you. I've seen this video before, but I appreciate you're reminding me of it, because it was helpful to see it again.

  13. Can someone tell me the best way to create a floor material with a screen capture of one 12x24 tile?  I find it hard to create flooring and wall materials using patterns I import, and getting proportions right.  Should I (for example) create the entire floor in adobe and import the whole thing?

You don't need to do anything to the CAD Block...........

In a 3D camera use the Delete Surface Tool to remove the Top of the Cushion and the The Side "Ring"

Leave the bottom for now ( or you won't have a seat ) then Select the Chair and save it as

a new Symbol > Furniture-Interior to your Library , now once place back in the plan you can

change the Chair's 2 Materials to those of your choosing.

    Oh thank you!!!

  15. Hello:  I imported a chair as an .skp file.  I placed it in my plan and exploded the CAD block so I could edit the components of the chair.  In the CAD Block Window I make edits (I want to remove the cushion). I then made the chair into a cad block again. I saved it as a library item.  I try to drop the new version into my plan but it doesn't show in camera view. I assume I am missing a step somewhere, where I need to turn it into a fixture.  I have gone through all the information I can find on CA and the videos, and nothing seems to answer my question.  Any thoughts?  Thank you.

  16. Thanks for the great insight everyone!  I have a system that was built piece by piece, by my son many years ago. He has maintained it and has upgraded it as we go along. So it's all customizable.  I am only interested in this for my desktop setup, not laptop.  I have 2 monitors and do other things that require this setup.  When I see clients, I have my large iPad pro which holds the pdf Layout I would have prepared for them.

Thanks again everyone.  I will have different options priced out based on your suggestions.

  17. Hello everyone. As I get ready to upgrade my system to the current X13 recommendations, and brace myself for the scarcity and cost of graphics cards, does anyone have any advice/feedback as I proceed?  Has anyone discovered something that worked great or didn't work great, or deals I may not know about?  I have someone well versed in helping me, but just thought I'd ask people who are actually in the trenches working with CA13 everyday.

    Thanks!

    Kate

  18. I am attempting to lay out a floor of 12x12 tiles.  I cannot seem to make the pattern appear offset.  And I don't know why the Texture Tab shows the tile scale as 36x36.  I am sure this is a fundamental thing that I should know, but it always confuses me.  Can anyone chime in?

    Thank you!

  19. I tried it through treatments tab and also as a separate stand alone. No way to have them open or closed at a specified percent.  I ended up creating solid cad items as a work around.  There doesn't seem to be any other way of doing it.

    Thanks for your reply.

  20. I am trying to add some interior window shutters, and cannot alter the % that they are open or closed.  I have a window with shutters that is close to another wall, so the shutters will never fully open. I cannot add shutters without one side looking like it's going through the wall.  Any thoughts?

    Thank you!

Thank you everyone.  Nothing is making sense to me, especially with so many replies (which I really appreciate!) so I think I had better contact support and ask one person about this.  Thanks again!

Post a plan that is missing the saved plan views.  My guess is that it is a plan that was started prior to us adding saved plan views to the program.  If not, we can investigate further.

Trying to, but the file is too big.

Same new file template every time?  Go NEW, draw 4 walls, save it as NO PLAN FILES, and post here.

I did this, saved it and reopened it. I get all the drop down options as I normally would.
