  1. You don't need Inkscape, do a top view in sketchup, add one longest dimension so you have a gude and export as JPEG (it will look something like the picture #1 attached) and drop that image into Chief. Use point to point tool over that dimension in CA and do point to point over 70'8  and I have  31'11".( follow steps in image #2)  Now when you trace over that dimension ( 70'8) your wall will be the same length. Now you can trace over that plan (image #3)

  2. You should have 1/2" space around it to meet the code and it should be wrapped so its not in direct contact with masonry if it makes any difference to show that or note that on your drawings.

  3. I just notices in X7 I was trying to zoom in close on the area of the house to Render from a top view and it stopped at this point (picture attached) I cannot get any closer after that point. Is there a restriction set on the zoom how close you can go in Perspective View? Or is there is a setting that controls that?

So I uploaded the model into Sketchup and ran a quick render with SK and I can zoom the model in as close as I want on any portion of the house any which way, Picture #2.

  4. I been using Camtasia for about 3-4 years, great program for video editing, you can separate video and audio, you can make presentations, put videos together, special effects, etc. They came out with a few newer versions since then free of charge. I mean there is so much you can do with it, I can't list it all.

Snagit is good if you want something simple to make a quick clip, etc.

  5. You right Perry, I see it on decks here. etc you attach a simple deck to a house it will put 8 footings where in reality you would need 3-4... As this little dilemma goes, it could be a bug.... But it seems in some situations and I see a lot on the plans that some guys post in here, that if you try to build something the way you would never do it in reality, something gets screwed up along the lines, whether this being a roof, attic wall or something else.

  6. I think the reason CA does that is because you would never frame this way in reality. Why would you build one roof on top of another, and what will carry that roof load when it lands in the mid span of the main roof. You have an open kitchen below and the rest is the bedrooms. You have overall rafter length almost 20' and you dropping porch roof right on top of it. Maybe CA thinks there should be a ridge beam and that is why it comes out that way.

IMO this is not a bug, because if you frame that roof as you would frame it normally in a situation like this, CA does what it suppose to do... But what do I know  ;)

  7. I think it will work, it should... it's working right now with x7 but only zoom-in and zoom-out functions but not the orbit function. In the X8 video they have orbit function working in camera view, I would assume it should work in both (plan and camera)  I checked 3Dconnexion page if they added  compatibility notice for CA but not yet, I think after they do a driver update it will work with X7 as well.
