your on a mac it appears and you have iCloud , is it full ? 22mb is pretty small, it is unfortunate CA lowered the limit to 14mb ( used to be 25mb) during Covid as a cost cutting measure. I thought Mac's came with Dropbox too which is a free 2GB....

The missing part of the side wall is common , depends on a number of factors but generally you can select it while in 3D and pull it across manually to fill in the Hole.

    Mick.

Thanks Mick - unfortunately if I try to pull it across manually, the wall completely disappears.

Upload to your cloud account and then post the download link or create a stripped down version of the file without fixtures and furnishings etc.

@Chopsaw I don't have any cloud accounts that will hold a file that large.  The zipped file does have all the interior gutted.

  4. Would welcome any insight on what I'm doing incorrectly.  I manually drew this dormer because Auto Dormer would not work - I got all the standard CA error messages with Auto Dormers.  Many many hours into this and it's almost there, but not...   (Please advise how I can attach the plan, ChiefTalk gives me a message it will only load 14 MB, my zipped plan is 22.3 MB)

I am really struggling to make this work and need some help.

I might be too late for this, came across this while searching for a resolution I'm having with stair moulding.  I think this video would be helpful to you.  I'm not certain which version of CA they are demonstrating with in the video, but it's easy to understand.

Just a guess, but almost certainly being generated by the room between your foundation wall and your furring wall.  Try setting those as actual furred walls in the Wall's Structure tab.

Many thanks!  :D That corrected the issue!  So appreciate you!

For any new Chief users who run into this issue, here are the steps to correct:

    >Select the interior wall that is against your foundation wall

    >Open the Wall Specification >Select Structure >In the Double Wall Section Select Furred wall
    >Do this for each wall that is against your foundation wall.

  7. Unable to remove this second room label.  If I delete it, it comes back.  I've tried removing all the walls and adding the walls back in and as soon as I assign a room type I get two labels.

Always grateful for any insight and support. :)

Place the light on the level of the room that has the ceiling you want it in.  So if your second level ceiling is above your stairs going to the first level place the light on the second level.

Thank you for your response - you're always so kind to provide feedback.  I thought I would share a video showing the issue.  In addition to what is shown here in the video I also tried to place the lights on the basement level and run into the same issue, the lights show on the main level 3D rendering levitating over the stairs.  I'm not certain how to make them attach to the ceiling.

I actually still have X8 installed so I went back and gave it a try with the Core Catalog Rectangular Craftsman Set and it all seems to work fine even deleting half the chairs and copying the rest back over to the empty side as you described.  Multi select or single select and the selected item comes to the top group.

Maybe post your set as a library item or a plan file with the set in it and I can give it a try.

I ungrouped everything with the table and chairs and then grouped the table and chairs and the table stayed on top.  I appreciate your help.  Still don't understand why it would not work with some of chairs grouped.

I am very grateful for your help in troubleshooting this issue.

Drawing Groups were much simpler in X8.  Select the table and then use the Drawing Group tool to move it to the front over top of the chairs.

That video was done using X9.   Update for more controls if you can.

Thanks unfortunately selecting the drawing group doesn’t work for the copied group of chairs. I was able to get the table in front of all the other single and grouped chairs just not the copied group.

Restarted my computer, ungrouped all the copied group chairs and it still doesn’t work.

    I must be missing something.

  11. When I select the View Draw Order Edit button the tools are not populating as it shows in this video.  I'm using X8.

I created a table and added two end chairs and then added a group of three side chairs, copied the side chair group, reflected about the table.  Unfortunately unlike all the other chairs the copied group of chairs I can't get to show under the table in plan view.

After watching the above video I realized in x8 I've never seen this group of tools populate when selecting the View Draw Order Edit button giving me other options.

    Grateful for your support.

Sorry, I'm on X14.  OTOH, you can probably do the same on X8 with just the cabinet tools and materials.

    I used the following:

    • frameless cabinet
    • round pilasters - always present
    • casters (feet) - always present - offset 2" each way
    • open back
    • open sides
    • front = opening
    • cabinet material = "No Material" or "Insulation, Air Gap"
    • shelf material = "Wire Mesh" adjusted in with and depth
    • no top
    • no bottom

Cabinets have always been one of the most flexible objects in Chief.

Joe - Thank you!  This is what I came up with.  While it's not perfect, it gives me the option to adjust the shelves for each unit.  I used the Wire Mesh material in X8 and assigned that to the whole cabinet.  I added a counter top the same thickness as the shelves and made it Wire Mesh.

Here's a "Cabinet" as I previously described.  It's not perfect but it's close.

Wow, that's amazing you can take a cabinet to this!  Unfortunately with X8 I get this error message when opening the file:  The library "/var/folders/rb/0cc6pmsn3h3cjcvgyfqgnq300000gn/T/ChiefTemp_703900090_WireShelf_0.calib" has an invalid version number and can not be read. Changes made to the library will not be saved during this session.  Grateful for you!

@DefinedDesign, here is what I use: Wire Shelf.calibz Wire Shelf with Standards.calibz

Insert the Wire Shelf with Standards symbol into your plan. It's set up for a "standard" 18x60 unit. This symbol has 4 corner standards with casters, and the lowest shelf at 6" off the floor, per most commercial food codes. Then insert the Wire Shelf symbol, center it on the previous symbol in both the X and Y axes, and set the height accordingly; repeat for every shelf you need.

Robert thank you, this is exactly what I'm looking for, unfortunately my X8 version won't open the files, I get this error message: The library "/var/folders/rb/0cc6pmsn3h3cjcvgyfqgnq300000gn/T/ChiefTemp_703900090_WireShelf_0.calib" has an invalid version number and can not be read. OK, I took the Herman Miller 3D and imported into Chief using the SKP and DWG downloads.  Here is a Chief 14 file with just the rolling racks, and it is close to 17 megs in size.

The problem is you cannot explode them and isolate out just a shelf unit, or maybe I don't know enough about working with symbols.

Thanks again Gene,  I'm using X8.  Appreciate your support.

If you have Revit (I don't) or Sketchup v. 19 (mine is v. 17) here is a free download of pretty much exactly what your image shows.

Gonna be a lotta surfaces.  Look at those file sizes.

If anyone has the full card of SU versions, I'd like this in something my v. 17 can open.

Thanks Gene, don't think my old Mac could handle multiples of those.  Grateful for you!

That's a skill all Chief users should have. This isn't a video on modeling a shelf, but you might get an idea or two on the process.

The Chief supplied versions of this shelf unit are rather basic and lack detail, making them easier to model if you do not need the details.

Thank you Eric, the video is really impressive.  I will have to do some newbie 3D training basics so I can understand better how to do what you are demonstrating.  Grateful for you.

    Hi Lisa,

    • Use a CABINET
    • Create your wire Shelf as an "Interior Fixture" Symbol
    • In the CABINET dbx set the Shelves to use that Symbol
    • For each Shelf set the distance from the previous. (you can use equal spacing)
    • Save the Cabinet to your User Library - name it "Wire Shelf w Wheels"

Now when you place one of these from the Library you can:

    • For each Shelf set the distance from the previous.
    • Change the number of shelves
    • Change any other parameters of the Cabinet.

Note that in the Cabinet dbx for shelves there's a drop-down list that allows you to select individual numbered shelves.

Joe - thanks for the quick reply.  Please forgive me, I am having difficulty comprehending how to "Create the wire shelf as an 'Interior Fixture' Symbol"

  19. Hello Chieftain's,

I'm working on a space planning project and I need to create this shelving unit so I can adjust the shelf location on each unit to hold different items.  What is the best way to do this?  I tried creating a base cabinet but I could not figure out how to get the shelving to show as wire shelving.   I have the five shelf version of this in the library but I don't see the option to explode it so I can add another shelf and adjust the shelves to different heights.  Always grateful for your expertise!
