Downgrade to Windows 10, I did right after my comment prior to yours and it hasn’t crashed since.

Thank you for this updated. It has indeed been frustrating. I upgraded to 11 a few weeks ago and each day it's been crashing a few times while working, I now have the habit of manually hitting save every minute. I've completely wiped out all graphics drivers and clean installed them, turned off TDR after bumping up the delay, disabled nahimic and blackisted chief, just looks like it's out of my hands. Happens regardless of the plan I happen to be working on at the time. 2022-01-04 14-58-20_Trim.mp4 Please continue to update us! I don't see why this would help, but I grabbed a quick recording of it crashing. EDIT: 4 crashes within the past 3 hours.

Poor Elevation/Cross Section View Performance?
plannedRITE replied to plannedRITE's topic in General Q & A
To update this, I was too hasty saying that all plans are this bad. I'm clearly mixing my pre and post update experience. This plan set is pretty awful so I am assuming that I have goofed something up to cause the lag though I'm not sure why it is only occurring in those views. I'll attach it here in case anyone cares to see if they are experiencing the same issue on their system. This build has been through too many changes and updates so it wouldn't be surprising if there's something obvious that I'm overlooking. Zipped due to size. Skousen Orchard Ranch REV4.zip -
Poor Elevation/Cross Section View Performance?
plannedRITE replied to plannedRITE's topic in General Q & A
Unfortunately yes, I actually kicked it back to a standard render before switching to the elevation view in that recording. -
Afternoon everyone, As the title suggests, elevation and cross section views really struggle as of a month or so ago. All commands in the window, even mouse movements, are very choppy and it makes any sort of precision challenging. The standard top down plan view or any sort of 3d view (including PBR/RTRT) work beautifully, smooth and very little noticeable hanging under the most stress. It does not matter which .plan is used so I won't bother attaching one, it happens even in a new .plan. This issue was directly addressed in the latest update's patch notes so I hoped that the update would have fixed the issue. But after updating X13 and all of my graphics drivers it is still choppy. I did a fresh install of X13 as well but it was no help. I emailed chief support but I had my SSA lapse so I will be waiting for their response. Until then has anyone been experiencing this or found a fix? Here's a recording of it: https://www.facebook.com/100000468050936/videos/610596253654161/ Thanks in advance for the guidance. Ethan

X13 RTRT Error - "Device Removed"...Help?

Thanks Rabbitt, I'll look into that and cross my fingers. Not a fun issue to fight with. -
X13 RTRT Error - "Device Removed"...Help?
plannedRITE replied to plannedRITE's topic in General Q & A
Yessir, as soon as I had received the prompt. And it seems to have a mind of it's own now. It hasn't crashed in 20 minutes or so, just being slower than the norm. I dialed back some of my normal OC settings which could have been causing issues given the size of this plan. -
Afternoon Chief-ers, A few weeks ago I had X13 crashing a minute or so after opening any 3d view. I updated my GFX drivers and it eliminated the issue...until now. It's back and happens very quickly after doing any RTRT. GFX drivers and chief are both up to date, GFX drivers had a fresh install as well. I haven't found any fixes for this other than what had fixed it last time. Any advice would be appreciated, than you! I'd attach the plan set to reference but I imagine it's not a plan specific issue and the file size is too large to attach. I can attach a drive link if necessary.

Ah there it is, thank you Mick!

I'm assuming that you are referring to floor vs full overview? Ah, it's due to drawing roof planes in the attic view. That makes sense. I'm used to using the floor overview with the roof plans drawn on the first/2nd floor. Allows me to easily cut each level off the build to look inside. Guess I don't have that option here other than the cross section slider unless I can get the dormers to show properly on the 1st or 2nd floor.

Evening everyone. I definitely wish that dormers happened to be simpler (or rather would hold my hand more) here within Chief (x12) as I seem to fight with it frequently. The latest issue is really odd to me. I was able to make the dormer show proper by moving them to the attic floor so that they would stop failing due to hitting attic walls (that even if deleted still keep the dormers from showing) but for some reason the roof will not show in the perspective floor overview. Oddly, they show on the plan, elevation views, and on the full camera view. Obviously this is not a huge issue but it's a bit annoying as I'm flying through and checking the model. So I have 2 questions. First, any idea why they would not show on just that 3d view? They layer is on but hopefully it's a simple oversight on my part. Second question is when I manually delete attic walls on the 2nd floor in this plan, why do they persist as invisible walls? If I delete the invisible wall they just reappear as attic walls again. As always, thank you everyone for your time! Orchard Ranch REV3.plan

Until now I have been using doorways to accomplish showing posts within Chief. However, I would like to be able to use railings instead, as clients frequently would like to have a railing shown in the plan and it can be tricky to manually move a railing into place. But when I use a railing as opposed to a doorway, the foundation plan is negatively impacted. Here is the doorway technique that I have been using (which will show what I am looking to accomplish in my plans. The only polyline I add in these instances are for the larger 24x24 footing represented by the square dotted line). This is what I currently have showing as I use a railing (I will also attach the sloppy plan): Hoping I explained myself clearly! Thank you in advance for the help. Ahhh you got me

Ah of course. Thank you for your help and have a wonderful end to your week, Eric.

Hm, yes it is oddly hit or miss when Chief decides to place the wall properly for me. It looks to work if I extend the 12" from a perpendicular adjacent wall. A followup to that - is there a way to select the width of the wall I am drawing vs adjusting the thickness after I have placed it? Hopefully that is clear. Thanks again.

Woops, I had the plan open on another screen. Closed it, here it is: Demo Plan.plan

Seems I am unable to upload the plan file, apologies.

I'm looking to add these accent wrapped doorways in my plans, but have always struggled to have it show properly. As you can see, the walls do not like to play nice as I use multiple thicknesses. I've used polyline solids to show it in the plan, but I'd definitely prefer it to show as a wall properly. Any tips? I very much appreciate your help. To keep drawings simple, I just use a 4" interior and 6" exterior wall. I generally look to use a 12" wrapped doorway.

Essentially the foundation, not looking at the porch, has a nice footing shown at those corners - mine is not as pretty. And in regards to the line, I agree. I did that initially but a combination of the prior picture and my OCD is pushing me to search for the proper fix. The screenshot from above comes from a gentleman that has been helping me out and uses Chief. It's doable, but even he isn't entirely sure what I've done wrong here (on top of having limited time to help me out).

Here it is, thanks. Crandall Casita Plan.plan

Hello everyone, This has to be something simple I'm overlooking but I'm wasting valuable time trying to figure it out. Figured I should bring together the brain trust to help me out. I need my foundation plan to appear like this (note the solid line around the porch and dashed for the footing. Not dashed on both sides, and the other walls shown have the footing continuous and ignoring the patio: This is where I am sitting currently(foundation view): (Floor 1 view): (The juncture at the underbelly, all funky): Again, probably something simple. Hopefully the information provided is sufficient. Thanks in advance!
