Hi, I followed the instructions/articles on how to clear the windows debugging heap, but after I run the commands and reboot it has no effect. Running Windows 10 with the latest patches, same with CA12. I did find my video card memory is lacking which may be the cause of my crashes in 3D, but it is not consistent.

Looking for the best way to illustrate an insulated roof connected via ledger to a wall supported by posts (or a half wall in some circumstances). I was able to use a roof plane for a similar situation discussed recently. I noticed I have to play with the baseline/facia/ridge to get things to line up right. Some of these will have posts, others will have half walls. I was wondering if there was a library out there for aluminum structures. I either missed it or did not see one in the catalog.

Hi All, Wondering what the best process is for showing demolition and changes from current to the future state? I have searched the reference and tutorial docs but have not found anything that describes the best practice other than saving file revisions. TIA = Thanks In Advance.

@solver I was thinking the roof framing was already built as part of the structure. So no, I have not built the framing. I will look at the guides now. Update: Got it thank you!

@solver Correct. I have the surface specified as seamed EPDM, and the structure is fir framing, with the Use Roof Ceiling Finish unchecked. I have Framing Ceiling Beams and Roof Beams. I deleted the ceiling layer as well, but all it renders is the EPDM layer and the T&G layer under it. That part looks fine. I was trying to show the roof beams for the structure, so they would follow the slope of the roof versus manually drawing roof beams

@solver How do I add ceiling joists underneath? They are 24" OC going out to a main support beam with tongue/groove on top.

Hi all, I am doing a plan for modifications to an existing structure that has a combination of a gable/hip roof (60's house in central Florida) over the core structure married to a flat roof that was custom built at one time. I need to capture the current state to show demolition and future state. The roof planes in the diagram attached are pretty close and good enough and I did that with hip/gable settings and wall breaks per the tutorial. I am struggling with how to show the existing flat roof of a slab patio, which forms the Veranda on the rear of the house. I looked at the "shed wall/gable" combo but it would not work right. I attached a pic of the floorplan and the 3D. Thanks in advance.

Watching this thread it is interesting how you can control the birdsmouth cut, etc. But how many of you actually do this type of work these days, or is it simply to produce the design? Curious how you are delivering engineered truss layouts on your construction drawings. In FL, just about every truss company uses Alpine Engineering, and then the firms are superimposing the truss drawings/cad on the foundation plan for the stamp set of drawings. What is the process that is most popular?

I see what happened here, many hours spent on a small topic but its burned in now. The key was only one wall showed the alignment tool, the other was aligned. So I kept looking at the wrong wall and not seeing the tool. Looked this AM, selected the other wall, and presto, it was there and functioned perfectly. @Kbird1this goes back to your post. The only thing I can not still do is set the stem wall height as described on page 118. The "room" is not selectable on Level 0, only in Level 1 (noted as a room type of Porch). But the stem wall piece is grayed out. I am sure it is me :-), so far all the documentation has been spot on. I just can't see it.

I took all the suggestions and learned several things. Per the tutorial, I went back and in my half wall selection on the lower part and I missed the part about Stone-6. After that, the reference lines show up on Floor 0. However, when I draw the foundation walls, I never get the "Align to wall above" button to show. In Floor 1 it shows it as porch, so that is good, but even though the reference lines are there, it can not find it, nor can I select on the room to set the stem wall defaults. This is very specific to page 117 of the tutorial so I understand if its hard to see this in action.

I am doing the porch tutorial and I draw the porch with the half wall, all good. But when I go to level 0 to put the foundation walls in I see no room. The porch has the room type of porch, the 4" slab floor, and renders in the 3D, so that part seems normal. I can not see the red ref line and attach the foundation wall to the wall above. I know its a setting somewhere, maybe I messed up the half wall defaults but I checked and it looks good. Thanks in advance.

Hi Joey, No worries. I was talking about the C/L dimension tool and the particulars on how to use it via defaults and or extension lines. This was not about the object centering tool. But I appreciate your willingness and diligence in getting it answered :-). I started with SmartDraw, actually liked it quite a bit, but I outgrew it fast. That is fine for doing simple stuff. Then I moved to CA HD Pro for about 10 days, then moved to CA Premier about a week ago. So I am caught between a rock and a hard place regarding the learning curve, and getting things out the door. But so far the clients seem to be happy. I understand the concepts well, but my learning curve regarding proficiency has been fairly steep, many ways and parameters to learn. But, I am getting faster every day thanks to guys like you that are on this forum.

The help matches the video I posted very closely. "Cabinet, fixture and appliance, furniture, and wall opening centers are only located as a dimension line is drawn when Centers is selected for these object types. See Locate Objects Panel." - this is consistent with the video. Maybe I missed it in the video, but the help points how to mark an extension line with the C/L aspect without all that which is what I was looking for. I heard the "default change" piece here. in X12 it works exactly as the video says. The CL tool did not produce until I hit the default as it states. If you only could see my experimentation...like a mad scientist... The permutations are many.... 1/4 scale, 1/2 scale... etc.,. I did not ask my question correctly. My question is if there was a global policy for behavior for such as this. For example, I can change the default for 1/4 to "centers", but it looks like I would have to change the 1/2 scale seperately. From what I can tell, the CL tool will not function unless you set the default, which is counter to minimzing default changes just to get a tool to position properly. As I learn the details it will flush out, and I suppose one does not really change scales often, or framing defaults, so probably not an issue. A table of defaults on which defaults cascade, or don't would be very helpful for a newbie.

I get the value of the C/L measurement tool, but I am confused as to why I have to change the defaults, will this cause other dimension behavior to change?

I have glass pony walls and a glass shower door in a design. It all looks great except I would like to make the glass slightly more visible via the tempered glass selection (which looks greenish). Right now I can only see the hinges and door handle. I was looking for an opacity setting or something like that. I want the glass clear, but slightly visible. Is this doable? Thanks in advance.

That will work. I started with HD Pro about 10 days ago, and move to CA-P this week. Love the tooling. I will add this to my setup process.

I was thinking that making the block wider would do it, and remove the layer. But that is a way better idea. Thank you.
