  1. The builder I drew this plan for is putting it in the parade of homes here in Michigan. They did not want to pay me $1k for a rendering done in Twin Motion, so I again went on a 2D .png plant image spree. I rendered the house in Chief and brought the image into Photoshop. Added the plants and a few trees, used the paint brush to add some shadows and ran it through the Camera Raw filter. Maybe 30 mins of work.

  2. I rarely draw monoslab footings so I am not the expert on this. I was helping Larry Belk (https://www.larrybelk.com/) with some optional ways to pull off mono slabs with CA using Stem Walls and Footings, mainly on the wall design where your footing is poured first and is used as the brick ledge. The bottom two videos are a way to make the wall in section view look like a monoslab.

  3. Hello,

I have made some changes and added a few cameras to my template to help show a client their home in different settings while in a meeting. These are not an end all for beautiful renderings, but a way to quickly show a client what their house will look like. By default my template uses the grass and the surround background (spherical) to work on the plan.

Just to note that I have my sun at 100 for interior and exterior renderings

Exterior at night scene... (you need to add your lighting to the interior, I did not fuss with this plan but you could take this further with landscaping and more exterior lighting). Again, I'm not spending any time with details other than place ceiling lights inside and outside where it makes sense, but only to show an idea of the clients house which they are overjoyed to see. A click of the mouse and happy and impressed customer!

Leave a like and show a screen shot if you tested these cameras and background out, and/or use them.

    Thank you, Steve

FWIW Most toolbar icons are either an on/off toggle, or they immediately perform some action (making the toolbar change), or they activate a new set of tools (making the toolbar change).

There are only two icons I can think of off the top of my head that have some special double click behavior, Make Parallel and Pan. Both of which don't immediately do anything when you click the button since they rely on user input in the view screen, and both have a secret double-click behavior.

There may be others but I've not come across them.

Thank you. I just went through a number of them and at least found some older buttons I have not used and even set hotkeys to. So was a good exercise to get to know my toolbars again.

It's doing that because your Dimension Default is set to Distance Rounding. Change the Primary Format to "Grid Rounding" and the problem goes away.

And I would absolutely urge you to change your dimension defaults. Most of your user dim defaults beginning with an * are set to use Distance Rounding, which has the potential to introduce dimension errors in your dimension string. (You also should check "Use Greatest Common Divisor" instead of "Use Closest Fraction.)

Thank you - I will fix this. I don't like to make the framers think.

  6. Does anyone know how to turn off or in some way fix this odd fraction issue? I feel embarrassed having this on my plan and having to make a framer figure out what 2/3" is - somewhere between 5/8" and 11/16". - I have my fraction set to 1/16" as smallest so figure it should round up or down. ???

  7. New update...

I'm really enjoying the curve monitor. It works nice because I am using FancyZones and using them a lot like multiple overlapping monitors. I also set up a zone specifically for zoom meetings so that I have access to outer spaces/docs that I can drag into my screen. Note I have zoon set up on the zone and not my whole screen. You can of course click the expand button on the top right of the window your working in to fill the screen. Click again and it goes back into the assigned zone.

  8. Just an update on the 55" curved monitor. I am not sure why it is different, I have not changed my computer at all, but working in Twinmotion the last few hours, and running a PBR (Path Tracing in TM), it is very fast. In fact I increased my Samples per Pixel to 256 and it is still 4 times faster. It used to take about 2 minutes at 128, and now about 30 seconds. Anyone know why a monitor would make that difference? I did increase the Hz from 60 to 165, but I thought that was more for animated 3D and video???

but the flanking vertical monitors are great for websites and reference material.  I love mine. :D

I have been messing with the new monitor and FancyZones and that might do it for me. I'm going to mess with it this way for some time and see how it goes.

  10. Giving an update here. My monitor showed up today so my son and I set it up...

    monitor.thumb.jpg.9956262c8e48f0782c3c088d9894180c.jpg

I can tell you that I already miss the real estate I once had with four TV's (just to be clear, they were TV's - 4k, but TV's). My refresh rate went from 60Hz to 165Hz. Not a big deal for CAD, but nice for gaming. Also made my mouse more responsive and smooth.

The curve is very nice when putting CA at full screen, this is even larger than one of big TVs - 42" to 55". I like that all of the screen is facing me and I am looking straight forward. With my last set up, more than a foot on each end faced past me. This was ok as that is why I put my menu on the left of the left TV.

Back to real estate, I am planning on adding two 27" monitors (vertical) to each side of this new monitor to add back some space as I liked my email, scheduling, etc on one of the upper TVs, and other related drawing docs on the upper left TV. It is just nice not to have to flip through windows, back and fourth.

As far as my computer build, I am also looking at more of a workstation with multiple processing cores. Not cheap so really having to think about it, but a nice tax write off.

Today I am going to work on making a few Layer Sets to help speed up my production by turning off more layers. I'm hoping to rethink my drawing process and find when I want certain layers on or off. My current computer is fast, but grass is one killer so I think that just will not be used, and I like to place my furniture as it gives me a better sense of how things are flowing. But that is one thing that I will have to toggle. When a lot of layers are on a 6000 sq.ft. house, working with walls, doors and windows it always a small delay in my click to click. I'm trying to find a way to eliminate that delay. Teaching patience for sure, but truly annoying when you want to get things done.

I thought I had super good HTMI cables, put this new monitor is telling me to get better cables if I want to run multiple screens inside the one screen, which I am planning on setting up Microsoft Power Toys, FancyZones to accomplish something similar.

Yes I am making a transition from sata SSD's to m.2 NVMe 4.0's and hope to see a significant performance gain but if you are upgrading from 3.0 to 4.0 that may not be so noticeable.   I see the 990 has a pretty quick read speed but slower write than some competitors but not likely noticeable by a human.  So the CPU and SSD are the most important unless you are doing RTRT and it looks like you have that covered as well.  I like the low latency of the G.Skill RAM you chose so be sure to post back when you have it up and running with a report.

Very good! Thank you. I will post my findings as I put things together.
