That all sounds reasonable.  What seems odd to me though is that it sounds like you're essentially attempting to display the North Arrow angle in Quadrant Bearings, but that will only ever be N0°W (or N0°E).  It would seem that the text alone would suffice and that placing any extra lines or macros would be totally unnecessary.  Am I missing something?

Just trying to show the relative north direction after rotating the plot plan to orientate the building to a 0/90 degree axis.

I’m going to delete the quadrant notation as I see now, this could cause some confusion.

    Thanks for the help.

  2. Michael,

Not sure if this is best practice, normally unless there is a reason not too, I align a new building 0/90 degrees from the property line or the road.   I rotate the survey so the property line or road I’m aligning with is horizontal/vertical.  I then rotate the North arrow the same amount to maintain the correct quadrant bearings on the survey.

I believe DB’s suggestion will work for what I need.

  3. I have a text box referencing a hidden line to show the north arrow degrees. Is there a conversion similar to "to_i or to_f" that will change the degrees to quadrant bearing?

Currently the text box has %angle.round(3)%

Number style & CAD defaults set to quadrant bearing.

  4. You can backup a project that creates a file (similar to a zip) with all the information for the project.   This can be saved to the cloud for others to use.

Someone else can download and make changes to the project, they will then have to backup the project and save it back to the cloud.  You will need to reload that backup to get the latest changes.

Because of other issues, I’m not using Managed Mode right now.

  5. I don’t usually include jamb sizes in my schedules so I never noticed this.  Wondering if I’m doing something wrong.

The side jamb is 3/4” & top is 1-1/4”.  The schedule only shows the side jamb size.  Is there a way to show the top also?

Nice work!  Here's one idea for the room name that wouldn't require much of a redesign...

    1. Place %room.name% into your Supplier field
    2. Drag out an extra line segment from the Tail of each Polyline so that it extends far enough that the Move handle (center) of your Polyline object is in the correct room and immediately click the Hide Selected Edge tool.  This second step won't even be necessary for many rooms.

    Michhael,

    Didn't know that trick.

Adding to the polyline changes the %visible_length% itherefore the distance & time are changed.

However, if you disconnect the segment & block both it works with one little issue.  It doesn't follow the formatting based on the schedule number formatting.  Have to format in the custom field itself.  Believe manually inputting the room is easier.

    Thanks again for the tip.

  7. Until recently, adding a note with the maximum travel distance was all that was required. from the local planning department.  When i talked with one of the plan reviewers, i was told now, a Life Safety Plan is required for all commercial projects.

I've attached a plan w/polyline and schedule that determines the distance and egress time required.

Still looking for a way to automatically add the room name based on the endpoint of the polyline.

Let me know any improvements you may make.

  8. Hollow beams look like the way to go.  Secure a 2x cut to the inside beam width, attach your hollow beam w/screws from the side into the 2x.

If you hadn’t finished the roof, could put some blocking between the rafters & lag bolt the beams from the top.

I’m not an engineer, but I slept at a Motel 6 last night.
If I remember my commercials correctly.

  9. Is there an easy way to delete all revision notes from a set of plans?

Right now, I go sheet by sheet deleting the revision notes.  Not a big issue with 6-7 sheets, but it gets to be a pain with 20-25 sheets.

I clear the revision notes when I issue the drawings for construction.

    Thanks,

  10. I want to suppress all electrical item labels by default. Is there a way to do that?

I know I can turn the label layer off, but i want to see labels for certain items such as electrical panels.

I’ve suppressed all the default electrical items, but if I select a different light fixture for example, the label is displayed.

    Thanks

  11. I’m looking at the Smart Level (smartlevel.us) for use in taking elevations since I do a lot of field work alone.  From the website, it looks like this doesn’t need to be sent back every couple years for recalibration.  I like that line-of-sight is not required.

Wondering if anyone has any experience in using this device or any recommendations of different instruments.

    Thanks,

    Keith
