  1. It looks like I may have to upgrade my video card. I have an RTX3080 but it's acting weird. Moving up to the RTX4070 seems the logical choice, but which version? Any advice out there?
  2. Oops. Apparently it won't load into X15. It loaded fine into X14.
  3. Awesome! Thanks for sharing, Ryan.
  4. That's also what I have been doing. I was wondering if anybody stored theirs in their user library, and if so, what do they see as the advantage of so doing?
  5. I have always added my created wall types to the list of wall type definitions, but I'm wondering if it wouldn't be preferable to store them in my user library. Where do you put yours? What is most convenient to use and to import into a new template?
  6. For what purpose do any of you use Floor Plan Shell layer set? I have a simplified floor plan layer set called Presentation, and it seems similar to FPS. Any other uses?
  7. Hi Rene, I have your template and have looked at this, but how do you set up the macros for the totals and percentage calculations? I'm just starting to learn about macros. I draw polylines around all the areas, that's easy enough. But what about combining two areas, such as a front and a back porch, for the schedule? Would I have to join the two polyline areas into one?
  8. I created this Excel spreadsheet for the building area summary on my plans. I put in the correct numbers, print as a PDF and insert into the layout. Any changes, and I have to re-do the process. Does anyone have a way to create a similar table in CA, with the math functions, so I can make edits within the CA file? Building Area Table worksheet.pdf
  9. That's exactly what I was wondering. Right now my main monitor is an older 27" BenQ, plus an even older HP second monoitor. I plan to buy another 27" BenQ and use the current one as my second monitor. From what you are saying, I think I'll pass on 4K
  10. I'm interested. What's the difference between standard and pro? Is there a trial period to check it out before committing? I'd like to compare it with the template I've spent dozens of hours on.
  11. I appreciate all the input, folks, although some of the computer tech is floating right over my head. My desktop is five years old, maybe it's time to buy a new computer that already has the 3080 in it. I haven't even checked to see if the RTX3080 will fit. My current desktop was locally built, and I like to support local, but I wonder if the small local shops have any better access to top-end GPUs than an individual would. I haven't looked hard at the A series, and since CA recommends the RTX 30 series, that's probably what I'll stick with. Funny - when I had this desktop built, I thought it would be my last computer until retirement. Hahahaha. Both about the computer and about retirement.
  12. ericepv, are you doing Ray Trace Rendering? I want to start doing that.
  13. Since the NVidia RTX3080 or 3080TI is almost impossible to buy, which of the other RTX30** GPUs will do as good or nearly as good a job?
  14. Any of you that sell stock plans, do you offer CAD plans, and if so, do you convert to .dwg? Or what?
  15. I add to the suggestion that there be a way to categorize the bonus and manufacturer libraries as they are on the website. I tried creating a folder in my User library with subfolders for each category, with just a list (not linked) of the catalogs that fit into that category, but it's a pain in the butt. I didn't want double links to entire catalogs, and I want to be able to update them. By the way, given there are a zillion cabinet catalogs, I only install the ones with representation in my region - why install ones that have no geographic presence where I live?
  16. Elvin, what is Microsphere building for you? And what's it going to cost? I am thinking of going to 6 core, one of the new 8th gen Intel processors.
  17. Wow, I never thought about Microsphere. They have been here forever. Thanks, Elvin
  18. Everyone has commented on my computer person's time/money estimate. She is a client, and we have done trade-outs for some computer help already. I don't know exactly what she is including in her estimate. But after more consideration, I am going to buy a new computer. I think that's a better option than doing a fix-it on a 7 year old box. So, again looking for recommendations on companies to deal with, something I can get for around $2k without the video card (I will re-use my brand new GTX-1060)
  19. I currently use an HP Pavilion Elite HPE desktop, almost 7 years old. Quad core i7 960@3.2 GHz 20 GB Ram, 2 sticks new this year 1.5T Seagate HDD New GeForce GTX1060 w/ 6GB 2 monitors Running Chief X9 Windows 10 64 bit. Something is going on with the system. I've done checks of the RAM and HDD for physical problems, they are ok. I'm getting BSODs and various other errors. Two options: Have a computer person sweep everything clean and install a fresh copy of Windows 10, then reinstall all my programs, etc. (I thought about doing it myself, but I would probably make things worse), my person estimated about $1700 to do all of it. Buy a new system, $2k or more would be the budget. Advice? Am I beating an almost dead horse to keep the one I have? What would you buy in my price range? NOT HP or Dell. I am done with HP and Dell products. I need to decide pronto. I am leaving for a week's vacation Saturday, and can give up my desktop to be fixed while I'm gone.Been shopping online, but haven't narrowed it down yet.
  20. Doesn't matter at this point, just want to create the look.
  21. Does anyone know how to create a siding material that is horizontal lap with planks of different widths, example 8", 8", 4"?
  22. Also, David, what is the most efficient way to group the individual files into a package that is user-friendly for the recipient?
  23. David Potter, have you used your technique to create .dwg files that could be sold to a stock plan buyer?
