How does one accomplish this?
-
Joe Joe Joe, outside the box again. You've been warned about that.
-
OK I did the Floating dormer on 2nd floor plan view & they attached to the front wall but cut the railing on the other side of the room. That is fixable but still I don't want the walls & such showing on the 2nd floor plan, just a ceiling outline or nothing. Perhaps the Explode method is the way to go. I only want to see then on the attic plan & the elevations. Thanks fellas.

The dormers show up on the first floor plan. Actual I don't want them to show in the 2nd floor plan. This is a remodel & the dormers are not involved but I want then to show on the elevations views. But turning the Dormer layer off does not remove them. Keysville.plan

plan attached see kitchen On another plan I inserted a grouped dining room & when I unblocked it the table settings went under the table. Edgewood.plan

I have a cabinet & chairs with counter top that overhang the chairs but can't get the chairs to show under the counter. The Move to front tool does not work & the objects do not have a group selection option that I can see.

Good solution jon. How did you do the rock at the shore line?
-
OK I looked at the Terran Path (Stream) and the lakes (Terran Features) and both have the same material properties. Water with transparency and same index. I changed to Translucent & they then all looked the same. But the bottom was grass for all three objects.

In my world all things are possible.

I got the camera view I wanted. Hit Final view with shadows Then did Raytrace, stopped at 20 passes.
-
OH, I did not look at that. Thanks

I have a stream & lake but the water shows different for all three & they have the same materials. Bridge BRF.plan

Oh I see now. But I'll start sending request for new tool to bring this software up to par.

Well the scenario is that the "Find & Replace" will search every TEXT object & replace with a yes no form the user. It does not display the complete text or take you to that layout, Here is an example of Autocad Find & Replace. I entered 20## to find 20 followed by 2 numbers Then I have the option to replace or continue searching.
-
I just had to read every note in the layout file 17 sheets because I drop notes in the layouts to avoid cluttering the plan file. A simple FIND would have been useful. "suggested words", that would be too good.
-
I could do that for this particular item but in the future what is one to do? You can't put every part number or special text in a macro form. The "Find & Replace" is a basic text tool IMO. I am truly shocked that is not in this software. While I'm ranting, where is the "Change Text Case" tool?
-
Hum, so I'm doing all the searching and the replacing. So much for smart software.

OK, I have to update plans for the code change to 2014 code ILO 2010. I have this text in plan & layouts files & maybe a block. How does one do a "Find & Replace" of " 2010" in plans & layouts? As a bonus how about block with text in them?

That's good to hear, Joe. I may catch up to you by the end of this decade.

And what you don't see is a layer that doesn't print, yes you can have non-printing layers in ACAD. This layer has all the engineering calculations & rectangles I use to calculate load based on areas of floor or roof components. I have a LISP i created which I select a rectangle & choose what load I want, floor or asphalt roof or tile roof. Then the LISP calculates the dead, live & total loads & I pick a place in the drawing to place this note. All this is on the non-printing layer & left in the drawing for future reference. Even you can not do that in CA.
-
Thanks Joe, Good advice as always. It is a PITA to go back and make modifications to the CA drawing in framing that is. Perhaps when I learn more CA methods. This particular drawing in CA is very slow as it is. I would think adding framing, floor joist & annotations it would slow to a crawl. Perhaps not but I don't have time in my work day to experiment. When things slow down for me (work load) I'll give it a try. Currently i have so many ACAD tools to do the framing layouts and add annotation I know i can't match that speed in CA. All the general notes are in a Layout & i know that is easy to do in CA but the individual note & leaders in Autocad are done with a LISP program i created. Using a pick list I choose the note to be added & then I pick the 3 leader points. The layer & text style are pre set for the routine and therefore automatic. i.e. a framing layer is used. The LISP has separate pick list for Foundation, Framing, & general floor plans. The layers are different and pre set for each pick list. Maybe you have similar method in CA but I haven't figured it out yet. I use a customized Array function to do the floor joist (in 2d) and I see CA has a similar tool. But to put them, all together is beyond my abilities at this time. Bash CAB 051215 S4 Frame (1).pdf

Well it is counter productive to use text tables when the built in feature keeps the table up to date when the sheet title & description are changed or the sheets are re-ordered. BUT, why can't we have larger and bold font for Title & header lines in the Table Or did I miss the clues for that feature? I am using %layout.title% %layout.description% %layout.comments% for my title block and are center justified I would like to have the Title on each sheet centered vertical in the area of the title block when it has no description and comment. But moving that text to the description field throws the table off. Is there a "Work Around" for this? Thanks PS Why oh why is there no spelling check in the "Edit Page Information" dialog? You have to do spell check in the table but guess what! That does not correct that table when you hit (REPLACE) It does nothing. Is that broken or is that some cruel joke on the user?
-
Larry, Good video, thanks That helps clear up the CAD window aspect. So to move the door number in the table you thump that Icon 10 or 15 times as needed.
-
The GC does not want two D01 or W01 in the plan So one schedule is needed correct? So you create the schedule in floor one & then make it a block? Not sure I am getting this. The CAD detail is unfamiliar territory for me at this time. Still lot's to learn.
-
OK I have a 3 story condo, units A & B I have created a schedule for door & another for windows on "Floor one plan" for each unit as the units are in separate Plan files & one Layout file. GC wants all items to have separate numbers, so I did that. CA has a way of not numbering as I want numbered! I want the table sorted by floor first of all. So I activate the table & drag items around to group them by floor. I think this is the only way we can change the numbers or position in the table, right? Then I see the block wall 1st floor doors have wood headers in the list so I open the dbx for those & eliminate the header. Well kiss my grits, CA must think I don't know what I want as it rearranged the table for me. Again I drag items around to sort buy floors. Now I want front door as #1 and then all exterior doors. Then inside the front door I work my way through the unit arranging numbers as I like. OK now I want to doe floor 2 & then 3. But switching to floor 2 i can not longer get to the table as it is back on floor one. What would be workable is to have a split screen with the table in one window & the 2nd floor in the other. Is there a way to do that? Please tell me there is. In my opinion you should be able to renumber by dragging one label to another & they would swap numbers. This would make things a lot faster for me that is. This CA method is very clumsy IMO.
