  1. That's good to hear, Joe. I may catch up to you by the end of this decade.
  2. And what you don't see is a layer that doesn't print, yes you can have non-printing layers in ACAD. This layer has all the engineering calculations & rectangles I use to calculate load based on areas of floor or roof components. I have a LISP i created which I select a rectangle & choose what load I want, floor or asphalt roof or tile roof. Then the LISP calculates the dead, live & total loads & I pick a place in the drawing to place this note. All this is on the non-printing layer & left in the drawing for future reference. Even you can not do that in CA.
  3. Thanks Joe, Good advice as always. It is a PITA to go back and make modifications to the CA drawing in framing that is. Perhaps when I learn more CA methods. This particular drawing in CA is very slow as it is. I would think adding framing, floor joist & annotations it would slow to a crawl. Perhaps not but I don't have time in my work day to experiment. When things slow down for me (work load) I'll give it a try. Currently i have so many ACAD tools to do the framing layouts and add annotation I know i can't match that speed in CA. All the general notes are in a Layout & i know that is easy to do in CA but the individual note & leaders in Autocad are done with a LISP program i created. Using a pick list I choose the note to be added & then I pick the 3 leader points. The layer & text style are pre set for the routine and therefore automatic. i.e. a framing layer is used. The LISP has separate pick list for Foundation, Framing, & general floor plans. The layers are different and pre set for each pick list. Maybe you have similar method in CA but I haven't figured it out yet. I use a customized Array function to do the floor joist (in 2d) and I see CA has a similar tool. But to put them, all together is beyond my abilities at this time. Bash CAB 051215 S4 Frame (1).pdf
  4. Well it is counter productive to use text tables when the built in feature keeps the table up to date when the sheet title & description are changed or the sheets are re-ordered. BUT, why can't we have larger and bold font for Title & header lines in the Table Or did I miss the clues for that feature? I am using %layout.title% %layout.description% %layout.comments% for my title block and are center justified I would like to have the Title on each sheet centered vertical in the area of the title block when it has no description and comment. But moving that text to the description field throws the table off. Is there a "Work Around" for this? Thanks PS Why oh why is there no spelling check in the "Edit Page Information" dialog? You have to do spell check in the table but guess what! That does not correct that table when you hit (REPLACE) It does nothing. Is that broken or is that some cruel joke on the user?
  5. Larry, Good video, thanks That helps clear up the CAD window aspect. So to move the door number in the table you thump that Icon 10 or 15 times as needed.
  6. The GC does not want two D01 or W01 in the plan So one schedule is needed correct? So you create the schedule in floor one & then make it a block? Not sure I am getting this. The CAD detail is unfamiliar territory for me at this time. Still lot's to learn.
  7. OK I have a 3 story condo, units A & B I have created a schedule for door & another for windows on "Floor one plan" for each unit as the units are in separate Plan files & one Layout file. GC wants all items to have separate numbers, so I did that. CA has a way of not numbering as I want numbered! I want the table sorted by floor first of all. So I activate the table & drag items around to group them by floor. I think this is the only way we can change the numbers or position in the table, right? Then I see the block wall 1st floor doors have wood headers in the list so I open the dbx for those & eliminate the header. Well kiss my grits, CA must think I don't know what I want as it rearranged the table for me. Again I drag items around to sort buy floors. Now I want front door as #1 and then all exterior doors. Then inside the front door I work my way through the unit arranging numbers as I like. OK now I want to doe floor 2 & then 3. But switching to floor 2 i can not longer get to the table as it is back on floor one. What would be workable is to have a split screen with the table in one window & the 2nd floor in the other. Is there a way to do that? Please tell me there is. In my opinion you should be able to renumber by dragging one label to another & they would swap numbers. This would make things a lot faster for me that is. This CA method is very clumsy IMO.
  8. Like I said So all housing jobs have a minimum pricing of $1000.00 Although I do some "Drafting" jobs that do not require engineering for as little as $400 for a sheet or two. Like a Garbage area Gate I did. But Remodels & houses never get below $1000 as they are too much work.
  9. Good info, thaks I'm late to this thread but here in Florida I charge $1.00 per square foot under roof per floor as a ball park for most houses. As a designer I have a Structural Engineer certify the structural elements of the design & they charge me $250 to $400 depending on size & complexity of the house. Under 1200 sq feet, remodels & over 4000 sq ft require pricing per job. If the house has special requirements the ball park pricing does not work.
  10. Yes, i need more practice but lots to learn. I noticed, messing with it, that using Shift or Ctrl will turn off the snaps but the dimension display is gone. The display on the bottom still displays distance though.
  11. Thanks Mick, It was the Grid Snaps. That fixed it
  12. Why in Section view does the Measure Tool only return inches and no fractions?
  13. So Joe it looks like that may be the easiest solution. You may need to use NEXT to get to the polyline wall object in camera view. Then add a soffit if you need a shelf deck at the top of the wall
  14. Scott, now that's thinking outside the box.
  15. OH, the railing wild be the top of the wall segment. Clever idea. I would thing 4 1/2 x 22 in my case. Only the full wall method supports casings. Off the play tennis this AM. Thanks for all the feedback. Lots of clever folks here.
  16. Mick that seems to be the least painful way so solve it. Thanks
  17. I now this has been discussed before but i can;t find an easy solution. Master BR with large closet. The wall between them needs to stop short of the ceiling to provide an area for a display shelf. If I use a Half Wall it will not fill in over the closet door. If I use a standard wall & ceiling plane to cut the wall the upper ceiling plans disappears. This is a 3 story building & attic & I don't want to add another floor or start messing about with ceiling heights. Is there an easy fix for this?
  18. In a mulled unit the framing is by window MFG & installed as one piece or just assembled at the site. No 2x unless the stress loads require it & then it is not a mulled unit IMO. In W18 there is no vertical load. The load is carried by W19 header. There is wind load so a 2x6 on it side may be used but I am assuming the window MFG is dealing with that load.
  19. Ok, another issue, a window in a mulled unit will not allow header modification if it isn't on the top. See image. using NEXT to get to the window in question it dialog does not have a framing option. The Window Table still has the original header info & it can not be changed. Is there a way to access this header info. You should be able to edit the window table directly & thereby updating the dbx of the object. Maybe not enough people complaining about this?
  20. Thanks fellas. I know how to group select but when I do I can not open the window dialog. I get this dialog. Maybe because some are in mulled units? not sure. It appears that you need to select "Solid Concrete" then uncheck Default for all shown in 2nd image then change height & width and count as shown to get the Window Table to look correct but Concrete is not displayed in the Window Table. Just wondered how you were dealing with this as we have many cc walls. BTW this house is CC on the 1st floor & Frame on the 2nd Floor so Global Default will not work.
  21. I want the window schedule to show the headers correctly. What is the proper way to set the window dialog for a Concrete Lintel Header? How can you change all windows on a floor at one time to CC Lintels? Thanks
  22. Thanks David. So it looks like you have no control of the tab name. FileName: CrossSection/Elevation - SectionName - Number FileName: name of the Plan File CrossSection/Elevation - comes from the project browser file tree SectionName - only name that can be edited BUT it will change the view name in the Layout File! Number Number sequence of tab view activated, varies generated & used by CA Wish we could edit the file tree name for crossSection.
  23. Surely there is a way to shorten the tab names or have two rows (or more) of tabs? Tell me there is a way!
  24. Not to worry Joey, we're just exchanging ideas & opinions. Nothing wrong with that. At 67 I don't get my feather ruffed too often & when I do I remind myself life is too short to be upset. All good here.
  25. Joey, I take issue with your wise man, one can be neutral. If by complaining I am part of the problem then so be it. As an amateur programmer I am critical of some of the things I see. There are a lot of easy fixes that would improve the CA interface. So for pointing that out I am part of the problem? I am not happy to make due & get by with "work around's". Sorry but that is who I am. BTW I do send suggestions to Chief. And I respect your opinion and see nothing wrong in you stating it. Thanks Alan
