  1. Thanks Eric I'll take a look at the link!
  2. Does anyone know how to use Chiefs window and door tools to create this? Ive tried nearly everything but cant do it. Any ideas would be appreciated! https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=D%2bxF8JYJ&id=6EF6156930289C036C1FD9617A83F9DDC1EEA111&thid=OIP.D-xF8JYJ8H4Jh5tWMxuK3ADHEs&mediaurl=http%3a%2f%2fi.shelterness.com%2f2016%2f07%2f04-arched-glass-and-wrought-iron-front-door.jpg&exph=849&expw=564&q=rounded+window+front+door+arch&simid=607990302427252073&selectedIndex=58&ajaxhist=0 Thanks, Chad
  3. Does anyone know how to use Chiefs doorway tools and roped column to get a look similar to this? I keep having issues and chalked it up to I must not be using Chiefs tools correctly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=lCiTO%2fOq&id=8CC4BE796080BE09E62421BF925A9A1562E474A0&thid=OIP.lCiTO_OqHcpxAOBydNbzxwEsDu&mediaurl=https%3a%2f%2fs-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com%2f736x%2fed%2f10%2f7c%2fed107c5795302be9cc23f4787f28524d--spanish-architecture-mediterranean-architecture.jpg&exph=288&expw=363&q=double+spanish+arch+with+roped+column+in+middle&simid=608040957260531565&selectedIndex=4&ajaxhist=0 Thanks! Chad
  4. Nice, thanks for the link I will check that out!
  5. Thanks Jon and Perry. I had no picture because I hadnt started on a particular elevation but am working on five different distinct floor plans and each elevation is going to be very unique. I noticed often times the gable and eave defaults put a large fascia board and it can make the design looked dated. I have played with the numbers on the fascia board dbx but noticed sometimes it can create a missing area that you can see between the layers in the roof if its not the 'right' number. Some elevations like some spanish elevations like this one at the gable have no fascia boards but just tile to the stucco wall...http://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=8dt7OVqm&id=F8984831772BE7C5D828508DA6AD0D18F4E32F6B&thid=OIP.8dt7OVqmgkw7XrukEcOyNgEgDY&mediaurl=http%3a%2f%2fwww.home-designing.com%2fwp-content%2fuploads%2f2008%2f10%2f81.jpg&exph=768&expw=1024&q=spanish+homes+&simid=608018133795081175&selectedIndex=0&ajaxhist=0 For this example of this spanish house would you set the fascia board to 0 on the gables? How would you get the tile on the edge of the gable like shown in the picture, would that be a molding polyline?
  6. Does anyone have any good online resource pages to demonstrate different types of eave types? I have many great architecture books but none really focusing on eaves and gables. Ive realized to really distinguish the types of architecture themes for elevations requires distinctive eaves. When adjusting the fascia boards in chief I noticed if you are looking to minimize the fascia boards (lets say for a spanish style) with exposed rafters and perhaps a gutter but with little to no fascia boards sometimes you see underneath the roofing. Is there a magic number to stay within when dealing with chiefs roofing in reducing fascia boards? A lot of question in one post!
  7. Thanks Scott for the advice I will try that out. Anything has to have a better result then what Ive seen and tried with the corbels. Graham, totally agree and makes sense. I just wanted to see if other chiefers had ideas on how best to deal with exterior corbel design applications, perhaps I was missing a chief trick on how to make these look the best they could. Thanks for the replies!
  8. Thanks all for the replies. Eric, Im not even picky about the corbels, I can take any of them whether simple or detailed and try to change the depth and it changes the entire look of the corbel. I just wanted to find out how others use the corbels in chiefs library and how to deal with having to resize them. Yes, many times the sizes that are featured in the library can work but for exteriors that require larger models Im wondering how one goes about using the library items. Kevin, thats what I was thinking...most people probably model a custom corbel. I just figured since there are tens and tens of great corbels in the library if there was a magic chief recipe to get them to look less messed up when sizes were changed.
  9. Id like to hear from fellow Chiefers on how they deal with exterior corbels for bumpouts where you want corbels underneath on the upper floors. My experience with this is yes, you can choose to use polyline solids that are basic boxes but if you want more elaborate and decorative corbels they often deform when stretched to fit. Im curious how everyone else deals with this design dilemma? Chiefs libraries have wonderful selection of corbels but if you need to change the size (more so the depth) it deforms the shape. I noticed that you can select keep ratio but if you need the corbels depth to go pretty deep it can sometimes make the corbel 24" tall which is unusable. Input much appreciated, thanks!
  10. Michael, sorry for the late response been away from my computer all day. I dont have a plan to post because the plan is in design development and I know Im going to do a bumpout in the next day or two so I wasnt sure the best route to get good results. Glen and Eric thanks so much for the replies and advice! When I start the bumpout design I will follow your guidelines because the results you posted look great! Thanks so much for everyones help! Chad
  11. Im looking for some guidance on how to create a realistic bump out curved roof. Could someone give me some chief #s I could plug in to the curved room dbx that would give me a desired roof similar to this one. Im just looking for something that is obviously buildable and realistic but also has a nice curve like the one in this link. I keep playing with different numbers but not getting good results. https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=PD0S6nWm&id=172FA9EB6646FBC8382F42B5921A38569A356A39&thid=OIP.PD0S6nWmkMNWM2_DrPexQAEsDh&q=house+bump+outs&simid=607997208702289548&selectedIndex=68&ajaxhist=0 Thanks, Chad
  12. Thanks for the reply. I will check out the link!
  13. Your right Tommy good point. I hope chief makes these stacking and folding doors a new feature in X10 because they really are essential in new home design now, especially out here in California with the indoor outdoor living areas.
  14. Thanks Tommy for the reply. I think this is similar to what I did with the two windows pushed together at the corners but made them reach the floor. I just cant figure out how to change the 2d apearance of the windows?
  15. Thanks for the detailed instructions Mark and thanks again for all the time it took you to develop the hood with nice details and textures! Dennis when it was imported into my library it was under user library named "Hood w Straps". Did you find it?
  16. It was added to my user library. Then when I placed it in the plan the textures and everything were on the hood as intended...turned out great! Thanks again! You need to have a second job as content developer at Chief!
  17. Yes, I wasnt sure if exporting was different for one single item out of an entire library vs the entire library. Thanks!
  18. Eric, does export library export just the single item or the entire library that its in? Im trying to differentiate how to do both those tasks.
  19. Dumb question...Ive been using chief since version 9 and I cant remember how to do the simplest thing...If I have a single texture from a manufacture library from X7 and want to import it to X9 but just want a single texture not the whole library how to I do that? Thanks, Chad
  20. Mark thats fantastic! Did you do that all in Chief? thats great. thanks so much for offering that to all us chiefers...gives a variety to our libraries and solves the strapped hood search! I really like the textures you used also... were those custom or chief library items? Great contrasting materials like I had described above!
  21. Sorry for the delayed response. Yes, I would have loved to have my phone with me when I saw the hood. No I didnt have a photo of it to include but thanks to everyone who posted pictures. Although not exactly like it very similar. The two that looks most similar is from the list that eric posted with the google link. It didnt have as much of an industrial look with the rivets but at this point any of these from Erics link would look better then what I can find in chief. Heres the link to the two I saw from Erics post that resemble it closest. https://goo.gl/images/HPqjRH https://goo.gl/images/vwmsER Thanks! Chad
  22. Does anyone know if chiefs libraries has a strapped hood? I have been seeing in brand new homes this new cooktop hood that is very elegant but Im not sure what brand it is nor have I found an image online. Its just a nice slopped hood and it has metal straps that go from top to bottom. They usually feature two different types of metals...a brushed or stainless steel for the hood and a nice chrome for the straps. Ive also seen this with bronze done a honed bronze and then a polished bronze strap...very unique. I looked in chiefs libraries but dont see anything like it. Does anyone have a symbol theyve found thats similar? Thanks, Chad
  23. Matty, thanks so much for posting this picture... this is EXACTLY what I was talking about! Yes I think chief needed this feature two versions ago... I see both the pocket folding doors that disappear into the walls and also the stacking doors in nearly every new home I tour. Also is there a way to flag this post so that chief developers can read this to see what were talking about with needed features? Im not sure there is a chieftalk feature that brings this topic to their attention.
  24. Ok, the closet thing I can come to what Im looking for is take a window and basically set everything to 0. In 2d it still shows as a window (I dont know how or if I can change that either) but overall it appears to be what I was looking for. Still open to other ideas that other chiefers use. Thanks!
