  1. Rob interesting, I will look into that. Thanks for the reply.
  2. In Chief X9 we can do corner windows without a corner post....can we do this with a doorway? In california Ive seen the disappearing walls (which Id also like to see chief add to their tool set, both folding and sliding doors as long as entire walls) that meet at the corner and have no corner post. I cant seem to bump two doorways together to get the corner post to disappear which Im guessing means this cant be done. Any ideas?
  3. Does anyone know when using exterior railings for covered porches if you select "post to beam" if the beam as default is a standard sizing? For some reason when I look at it, it appears too small. If this isnt standard sizing does anyone know where we go on the railing dbx to change this? Thanks, Chad
  4. Hi Eric, thanks for the reply. Yeah Im not sure why some walls snap that far away. I will test out your recommendation and that sounds like it might just work out fine. Eric, do you know where you can adjust the space that walls snap? Like you mentioned it should be 6" versus 6' but is there dbx to change this? Thanks!
  5. Does anyone know how to reduce the feet in which walls snap to one another? I tried looking at defaults and preferences but Im not sure how to do it. Ive noticed that sometimes walls snap together even when 6' apart. This can be frustrating when dealing with small spaces and details when your trying to keep the walls from joining. Any ideas would be great! Thanks, Chad
  6. Thanks for the replies. Dermot thanks for posting this. I guess I didn't realize the change was on such a global platform for the new versions...I initially just noticed that option being gone so I wanted to ask about. Thanks for the detailed descriptions of the changes!
  7. Does anyone know why in X7 but not X9 in the room DBX under the room names and show room labels theres an option for display in uppercase. I thought this was a helpful feature...was it moved somewhere else or deleted altogether?
  8. Great thank you guys! In all the years since version 9 Ive used chief Ive never had to do this... funny how you use some tools all the time then like this Ive never done this before. Kind of cool to learn new tricks in chief. Thanks again!
  9. Thanks Mark. When I used the reflect about object and did that very thing it just took the wall on the left and reflected it to the right correctly but didnt leave the original wall. The method your describing does it keep both walls?
  10. Thanks for the replys. Heres the example. I already accomplished it but it was very cumbersome because you all know how walls extend attach and dont always reflect or mirror identically. So the curved wall on the right of the center staircase was perfect but I wanted to reflect about and mirror it on the other side of the staircase... I couldnt find the right tool to do this because when I did reflect about, it just moved the wall instead of copying from the original wall. So clearly I didnt use the right tool...I just wondered what tool would I use the next time to do the job of copy and reflect? I looked at multiple copy and replicate tool but you had to use all the coordinates and reflect about object tool was the only one I knew would get it just perfectly mirrored to the other side. I know confusing to describe huh!
  11. Does anyone know how to reflect about object and know how to keep the original object in its location? Basically keep the orginal wall but then also reflect about object to copy it in the same location just mirrored? Thanks!
  12. Thanks guys for the replies and example plan, I will check it out!
  13. Thanks for the replies. Eric how did you get the molding to return like that? whenever I have a molding conclude it usually shows the side or back of the molding? Your picture looks fantastic!
  14. Does anyone know how to have more control over the crown molding? I know we can use polylines for crown molding but if I want the crown molding on an entire floor and have it consistent but I just dont want it in the area show in the picture where the stairs and ceiling are open, how do we get it to miter and end nicely along the wall? Of all the years since 2003 working with chief Ive never found out how to do this... Ive just avoided the crown molding all together or the plan just happened to be able to have it place just right. Thanks for any help! Chad
  15. Great thank you guys for the input. Its funny how chief is so relatively flexible with customization but with something as simple as the control of legs on the cabinets it appears you still have to do work arounds. I would have thought this far along with version X9 this would have been addressed. Thanks for your solutions! Chad
  16. Hi Greg, Im not too keen on chiefs shortcuts, I dont really use them. As for the flatten or flatter roofs Im testing out different looks for the elevation to see what fits best. Thanks! Chad
  17. Rob thanks for the additional idea, I will try that out. Sorry for the late response... I didnt see the response till now.
  18. Hi, Im curious how others are dealing with bathroom vanity cabinet feet. I have this master bath that included two sink basins, drawers in between and at the end a full height linen cabinet all lined up right next to each other. All these cabinets have bun type feet without the normal toe kick. Automatically chief wants to just have feet at both ends and none in the middle. If you select always present on the accessories tab then each of the cabinets have their own feet shown. It seems either selection seems too much... you have either not enough feet or too many. How do other designers deal with this when the toe kick isnt present and its bun type feet that are exposed and not uniform like the regular toe kick is? Thanks! Chad
  19. Mick, thanks for the recommendation, I will check that out!
  20. Sorry for the late responses. Thank you so much for the recommendations and examples. It appear you all have a lot of experience with these modern roof types. Although mine is for conceptualization and renderings its good to know the best policy on build to save time later. Thanks for all your help. Chad
  21. Chopsaw thanks for the reply. Im not having any issues persay but Im embarking on finishing this contemporary elevation that would look best with a flatter roof. In the past (I have version X9 now) there were issues with eaves, gutters etc. I just was asking kind of a generic question on how do most chiefers go about doing flatter roofs. I understand that roofs arent suppose to be flat but just thought Id pose this question given Im about to do a modern home design. Ive seen some builders have a pitched roof but use soffits and raised parapets to disguise the roofline to make it appear flat even though its not. Sorry if the question isnt specific I just wanted to get more ideas on this design type in chief.
  22. Hi, Does anyone know what the best way to create flat or even flatter roofs in chief? I noticed playing around with roofs there gets to be issues when the pitch gets too low. Im not sure if chief has a limit on roofs... like is the pitch limited to 2/12 and thats the flattest or are there other options? In the past Ive soffited the entire roof just to get rid of the exposed wood to have a more finished appearance for renderings. I wanted to find out what the more professional way of utilizing a flat roof in chief. Thanks! Chad
  23. Robert thanks for the reply... I didnt even think about the knee wall...great idea! Yeah I was having the same reaction with the newels as well but I wasnt even bothering with those much until I figured out what I was doing with the rest. This plan is old (probably 2008) and is being reworked and updated. I had problems trying to upload and zip the file thats why I havent uploaded the file. Thanks so much everyone for the input and ideas despite the plan being so minimal, I appreciate it a lot!
  24. Great thanks so much chiefers! I never thought about "painting" the screen on the glass!! Thats fantastic... thanks so much for the replies!
