How do you turn off the automatic labels that generate when I send a plan view to the layout or I send a Cad block to the layout? I can turn them off individually, but I want to turn them off as the default setting. Thanks, Lane

When I am in a Layout, to move a CAD block I can click the object and a temporary dimension will appear. So far so good. There are two symbols that pop up to regulate the movement. The first is a two dimensional horizontal, which is checked as the default. The second is a four way arrow, which I would like to make the default. Where is the setting for this? Thanks, Lane

I am trying to put the basement, first floor, and attic electrical layouts on the same layout sheet. In the plan view, I have a plan view set named "Electrical Plan View Set" and a Layout Set named "Electrical Layout" Working In the Electrical Plan View Set, I drew the electrical plan for the three levels. I saved the plan set, thenI sent the main level to the layout sheet...beautiful Then , in the "Electrical Plan View Set" and "Electrical Layout" I sent the foundation electric plan to the layout. But, when I did that both levels in the Layout sheet were the foundation level. I can do the same for the main level and the attic level....send them to the layout but it changes all views to the most recently sent view (floor level). How do I adjust the settings so I can send all three floor to a single sheet. Thanks, Lane

Can I set up a boilerplate template for my layout ( several pages of building code notes, typicals, etc) without having to save the plan I used to create it? In Chief 10, every time I opened the layout template, every plan file that had anything do to with the layout template had to be accessible in order for the template to work. If I modified one of the template notes (say for instance the template note has a 42" frost depth, but the specific layout will call out a 48" frost depth) then I would be asked if I wanted to modify the original plan as well when I went to save the layout. This was a real time consuming process, since many plans were generated over the years to come up with the plan notes. All plan notes were sent to the layout from the various plans as Cad Details. In over 50 years of building, I have never seen a sill plate considered part of the foundation.

Thanks for the tip on building the framing in order to get the sill plate to show up for the garage. But I still think if it is wood, it belongs in the framing. Lane

Why does Chief consider a sill plate to be part of a foundation? In real world construction, the sill plate is part of the framing. When I do an elevation, the sill plate is missing in the garage area, although it is present in all other areas. Even thought the top of the foundation walls and garage walls are at the same level below the first floor sub floor, they show up differently in elevation views. So, is there any way to reassign the sill plate to the framing where it rightfully belongs? Thanks, Lane

Glen, it may have, but I deleted it and started over. The plan was opened from my old V10, then saved in PremierX10. It was a small plan and I thought maybe the fact that it was from a previous version may have had something to do with the problem. When I duplicated it from scratch in Premier X10 I had no problems.

Lines are parallel. I am working around by drawing a line between the two lines I want to dimension, opening the line to see the length, adding arrows to both ends and manually typing in the line length. PIA at best. Thanks, Lane

In a CAD view, I cannot pull a dimension between two sides of a closed polyline. When I disconnect all of the lines, the dimensions still do not show up. However, if I draw two separate cad lines, the dimension will show up between the two cad lines. Is there a dimension or polyline setting that will allow me to dimension between to lines of a single (or multiple) polylines? This was not any problem in my old Chief V10, but the new one has me outsmarted. On lots of fronts. Thanks in advance.

Hello, In my old V10(B), I could send any individual floor plan to the layout simply by clicking "send to layout" But in this new X10, whatever I send to the layout changes everything I already sent to the layout to the current plan floor view. So, If I want to show the first and second floors side by side, first I sent the First Floor Plan View. Then, go up one level to the second floor and send the Second Floor Plan View.....but that changes the First Floor Plan View so there are now two Second Floor Plan Views. What am I doing wrong? Attic walls keep automatically generating and I don't want the to do that. I click on the wall, uncheck the "attic wall" box in the specifications , but then it just pops back up again. How can they be turned off and not allowed to automatically generate themselves? Thanks in advance. Lane

Hello again, I am getting an error message saying the deck is not over a deck room? What does that mean? It does not seem to affect anything and I can ignore the message. However, any change made to any wall where the deck touches it generates that message, i.e. if I add a window, door, etc. Next issue..how do I get the newels and balusters to show in plan view? I checked "draw newels " but they still do not show up in plan view. Layers are on so I what do I need to do to get them to show up? Thanks, Lane

YIKES! When I hit the auto interior dimensions button, there are so many dimensions I can hardly see the plan. How do I set it up so each room gets only one maybe two length/width dimension? Thanks in advance, Lane

Today's question is about the Ray Trace feature. It works great, but right now it is at "Pass 891" and it has not gotten any better looking for the last few hundred passes. Is there a setting so you can get a good but not incredibly perfect Ray Trace, and thereby cut down the time it takes to process? Speaking of processing time, is there a normal time it should take to Ray Trace a rendered view? Thank you in advance, Lane

I am trying to create a window schedule that also shows, in addition to the program defaults: Net Clear Opening Width In Inches Net Clear Opening Height In Inches Net Clear Opening In Square Feet Overall Clear Glass Area, Square Feet Overall Vent Area, Square Feet All of this information is required by our local building departments. I want to import some of my old V10A libraries into the new X10 version. How do I pick and choose which ones I want to include, and where do I put them in the new library browser? Do I have to set up a new library first, or can it be done when I import the old ones? thanks in advance, Lane De Muro
