  1. I'm confussed on how to tranfer my license to a new computer, I have always had my files on an external hard drive, is this something I shouldn't do? My saved backups are saved on to my hard drive, which I eventually move to my external hardrive. To transfer my license do I need to use Backup Entire Plan tool to save ALL of my files? or should I move my saved files from my external drive to my hard drive to avoid any file coruption and/or data loss and be able to contiue working on my projects? "Do note that plan and layout files that were designed and saved on one computer will need to be transferred to the secondary computer if you'd like to continue working on them. Consider utilizing the Backup Entire Plan/Project tool prior to transferring Chief Architect files between computers.""It's also important to remember to only work on plan and layout files that are saved on your local machine's hard drive. Working on files over a network server, external hard drive, cloud storage service, or USB flash drive type device is not recommended, as file corruption and data loss can occur."
  2. I have a 8' ceiling second floor that cantilevers 2' out over the first floor that has a 10' ceiling, also on the first floor I have a front covered porch that I want to have a 9' flat ceiling. When I lower the porch ceiling it also lower my second floor because of the space below the cantilever, is there any way to do this w/o lowering the foor above? Plan is posted. 21-012 Crown Residence.plan
  3. I'm looking to upgrade my whole system and wondering if anyone uses any Raid storage? Raid1 or Raid5? Is it worth the upgrade and what are pros & cons?
  4. Does anyone know if you can (or how you can) save down a drawing created w/ a newer version to an older version?
  5. That was it Eric, I guess since my attic was designated as a room. Thanks a ton!
  6. That is what I've done to no avail, changes all the rooms.
  7. I'm trying to change the height of my Great room from 97 1/8" (default) to 121 1/8". How do you change ceiling height of a single room without changing the height in all the rooms? All my rooms are defined by walls and have a defined attic space above.
  8. That's what I did, it was just so large I couldn't see it until I I ran Fill window, then I just sized it down. Thanks for the help all!
  9. Hi All, I'm trying to import .dwg title block file in to CA, of course you can only import a .dwg file in to plan view. Does anyone know of way to get the file in scale and in to a layout view?
  10. Trying to get a rectangular polyline center point to snap perpendicular to a cad line? I thought you could press the cresponding key ( ], for perpendicular), but I can't seem to get it to work, I can only snap to end points.
  11. Is there a trick to use a specific snap (i.e end point only center only, perpendicular only)? I can never get any thing to snap perpendicular, like trying to get a rectangular polyline to snap perpendicular to a cad line?
  12. I use a lot of notes in my plans, usually created in Microsoft word. Is there is way to save a word file to jpeg or maybe something else that wouldn't bog it sown so much?
  13. I know I have come across this somewhere, but can't recall where. My question is, does anyone know where you can see what code is being referenced and how can you change it?
  14. All my rooms are already defined by walls, when I raise the one I want to, all the rooms raise.
  15. I know I've done this before, but can't for the life of me remember how I did it. I have room that needs a flat 10' ceiling while the rest of the rooms are at 9'. How do can I raise it w/o raisng the others?
  16. Sweeeet! I had to adjust the transparency but works great! Seems so simple, one of the million tricks. Thanks Mike.
  17. In my jurisdiction and I think in most other we're req'd to show which walls are load bearing. I know I can show patterns on bearing walls, but it seems tedious to pick each wall that is designated as bearing in the dbx and than individually apply a pattern. Is there a better way to show all the walls that are designated as bearing and them w/ some sort of shading to differentiate from non load bearing walls? How does everyone else do it?
  18. Ah, good to know! Thanks Dermont!
  19. Thanks Bob - I just down saved it from Autocad 2019 version to 2013 version and presto, not sure what the compatibility issue is but it worked!
  20. When I try to import a .dwg file, I get an error message that reads "The following error occurred while reading the file: Teigha error: 42 - invalid file version. Would you like to attempt to recover from the error?" If I click yes, it just generates the same error message. Does anyone know what this means?
  21. Chopsaw - Yes, I have all my files on a backup hard drive but how do I actually download it?
  22. After just having my hard drive replaced I knew I would have to reinstall all of my software. Does anyone know what needs to be done to reinstall my version X7? I have my product key but I obviously cant access my old hard drive and transfer. Thanks, Billy
