Video card is one of the more critical parts of a computer system, especially for CA. If you can wait a couple of months, there is a new generation of video cards coming out, so the 1060, 1070, and 1080 cards should drop some in price.

If I understand your question correctly....You can move all the roof planes to the same floor level, or you can also do an orthographic view from the top of your project to show an ariel view of all the roof planes.

From an area perspective, yes. But when plotting to scale, a 24x36 at 1/4" would scale down to 12x18 at 1/8". 

If your considering an 11x17 printer, look for one that will accept 12x18. I have a HP 7610 that will accept 12x18 paper which allows me to do exact 50% sets (1/2 of a 24x36), The paper can be hard to find locally but I order it online as needed.

I saw the other post about differing gutter colors and it reminded to ask what is the best way to add downspouts ? (would be nice if we could get auto ones BTW)

I think you are referring to individual job files names. One way to do it, is to have the most current plan named as (example) Smith Current.plan

Then if you have revisions, you start doing a save as numbering, so you would have Smith 01.plan, Smith 02.plan etc. but Smith Current is the one that is always the working model, that way, your layout files wouldnt have to be redone.

I agree with Joey, you need to figure out a win-win scenario. Why not ask the builder what he thinks is fair? He may surprise you.

It sounds a little more complicated than it actually is, but I agree, it could be easier. I had to go through it a couple of times before I really felt comfortable with it.

I had a similar decision to make and decided a new computer was the best option. While upgrading memory, hard drives, and video cards will get you some nice gains, its still an older computer with a likelihood of another part failing (motherboard, power supply etc), then what? Assuming this is how you make your living, the prudent option is to plan on replacing your hardware every 3-4 years or so. You might be able to extend that with periodic, specific upgrades, but I wouldn't go past 5-6  years, I think you are asking for trouble if you do.

I would buy a 1070 graphics card as a minimum. 

I would consider upgrading the memory (32 gb) and graphics card.

CA definitely need to look at adding the ability to do keystones, brick soldiers, jack arches etc. automatically
