  1. I also use Dropbox and have no issues with it. Like Joe Carrick mentioned, I am able to access my files from a variety of sources, and they sync up automatically. Works very well for me,

If you don't specify it, the builder could use his own imagination,

No matter what, the building will have to meet the governing codes, whether it is specified or not. I don't think any jurisdiction will allow a builder to just "use his imagination"

Plan requirement vary greatly across the country, in our area (Atlanta, Ga. ) there are places that still don't even require a set of plans. That was my point to the OP

  3. Softplan is a very good alternative to CA, its just different. I started with Softplan because of the large number of designers that I saw utilizing it, but I was frustrated when trying to learn it. CA operates more like how I think, and it has (imho) a larger amount of resources as far as training videoes. libraries, etc.

They both cost roughly the same amount, try them both and see what works best for you. A CAD program is one of the most important tools that you use, it makes sense to get whats best for you. You can always sell whichever one you dont end up using.

I'm glad to see that the VR aspect of X11 is vastly improved over X10.

I still have 1 major issue, and that is the way you navigate a plan. I can't seem to figure out a way to do it other than by "pulling yourself around". Why isn't it just a point a click movement like Prospect?

Currently there's no way to maintain the same height while youre moving through a plan. You literally pull yourself to the point you're connected to. We use VR quite frequently, and I am super pumped with how it's working....unfortunatley the movement is a deal breaker for us.

Maybe I'm just not seeing where to adjust it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm interested in hearing how you are using VR, your setup , how you ulitlize it with clients etc. Can you elaborate?

  5. So I have just started using Plan Views, and I am trying to have 2 views of a floor plan, one with manual dimensions and one without. But if I save one view with the dimesions on,  its getting applied to both? Am I doing something wrong, or is this possible?

I appreciate all the help you guys have given, and guess I should give an update now that I have a NEW computer!

I went with: HIDevolution MSI GP73 Leopard 8RF 17.3" FHD 120Hz Gaming Laptop | 2.2 GHz i7-8750H, GTX 1070, 32GB DDR4/2666MHz RAM, PCIe 512GB SSD + 1TB HDD. It just came in on Tuesday, so I'm still getting used to it. So far, it seems like a great choice for my needs.

Those look like great specs, I'll be interested to see how it performs. What kind of $ is that system?

I had a little spare time before I need to head out, so I decided to make you a video with my quick thoughts on the subject...

Those split levels definitely ARE a pain though.

There's a chance I changed something you won't quite like since its really not my plan and I'm not sure why you did various things.  Regardless, hopefully there are some tips in there that will help you out.  It's definitely easier to deal with when you're the one the drew the plan though, because you know what is what, what is supposed to be where, and why its supposed to be where it is : )

    Nice video and very informative.

  8. I dont see the issue your speaking about on the elevations, it looks to be a reasonably complete model, although probably does need some work to make it a set of appropriate construction documents. Like Joey said, really depends on where you are building and what they will require.
