  1. In the Project Browser, right click on the Layout Page, select Edit Page Information and change the Label to S-#

Well Joe, I know it seems a simple process to the experts, but to this novice I can't even get that to work????? I thought I did it like you said, but after sending the sheet to layout, follow your steps but nothing changed?

  2. I am at the point of exhaustion, to bed at 3:10 back up at 7:30 now trying to figure out what happened to all the work I did last night/early am?????

I followed the help link on the error link, but it doesn't work the way the help says it will.

Thankfully, I went to the saved layout files, right clicked open and they were still there (but) I am SCARED to death with I do a complete back up, and/or pdf / print to file to send to the client and his disciplines to review (he has a meeting with the contractor and wants all I have ready).

When I opened the help and tried to do as directed clicked on the ok and the dialogue just closes, it does not allow me to search for the missing files.

Since I DID find the missing layout files, is there a way to save a back up of the saved (working) layouts????? or is that just another waste of time?

  3. As luck would have it, working ALL NIGHT to get the redi-check CD's out the door (this morning). I thought I was following the help to the t-went to a elev section tools schedules inserted door, window, cabinet and finish schedules there. Turned off all layers except for schedules, sent to layout (sheet 5), wow did it look nice.

Only thing, the elevation section view on page 4 now has schedules plastered all over it too! I opened tools layer management for that view and turned off schedules, but they're still there.  I didn't want to try this before I asked the question, but I am assuming if I delete the offending schedules (which will also delete all the work I did on the elevation section) I can go back and just add the elevation section again and it won't affect sheet 5 which is nothing but schedules?

That's what I get for being a NOVICE!

I SURE AM TIRED!!! Think I'll take a quick nap?!?!

  4.

You can't change the default floor elevations - the fist floor will always be at 0'-0". Once the Terrain Perimeter is built, adjust the Pad Elevation in the Terrain Specification dbx to raise/lower the Terrain Perimeter to where you want it.

Attempting to do that, but so far the results are crazy and BOY is it taking a lot of TRIAL AND ERROR!

  5. Lake House Client wants me to set the default floor elevation (main floor =0 by default) to corrilate with the topo map elevation.

elevation at corner of house for example is 900' so main level floor (+/- 36" above 900')=903'.

When I attempt to edit default floor in edit default the floor elevations are greyed out. Do I have to change each rooms floor elevation in lieu of globally changing the defaul. I can't seem to find any other way to change it.

    Thanks!

  6. Could be an email limitation.

If so....just open up a free "dropbox" account.   (you get 4 or 5 gig free) In there is a "Public folder".  Anything you place in it, is downloadable to another computer. (no size limit)   You just copy files to that folder and "right click" on it.   That will give you an option to "copy public link" to that specific file.

Open up and email, and paste that link in there.....and you are home free.   They can then download to any computer.   I have sent 2-3gig files that way.

I will give it a try. IS THERE A BOOK available "drop-box for Dummies"?

  7. Lake House client has the CA X6 viewer loaded on his Mac, and has viewed the plan I backed up and sent him. Now his ID wants to do the same, but, Both are asking if I can shrink the file to 10mb or less.

Not sure exactly why, maybe their internet upload/download speeds?

I haven't any experience with this operation in CA for file sharing, so any advice would be appreciated. As previously suggested by others on the forum, I am doing google-search but nothing exactly relating to this subject so far, except "never compress again" in drop box. I'm not sure that's the answer?

The complete back up file (zipped) for sharing is over 17mb's.

    Thanks

  8. We ALWAYS get a release signed (notarized) that you're not responsible for any errors, misrepresentations so on and so forth and that the contractor does not have intellectual ownership of the plan/design etc., etc. WHERE are the LAWYERS when you need them? Chasing patients with bad hip replacement joints?!?

There are at least 2 ways to get rid of it:

    1. Build the terrain. This will make it go away until you change anything that affects the terrain.

    2. Turn on auto rebuild terrain. This will make it stay off because the program will rebuild the terrain anytime you change anything.

So, THAT's what did it. I turned off auto rebuild terrain, because for some reason, I get the message something like, auto rebuild terrain, interpolating (something) etc., etc., I'm not sure what that is or how IT got turned on, but when it DOES do that it takes forever to go from one operation to the next, like moving a door then you sit and wait.
  10. I added a terrain feature, on a back up plan to see how I could quickly modify the terrain on the Lake House plan and for some reason, I cannot get the Build Terrain icon to go away. I wouldn't ask if I KNEW how to get rid of it. I couldn't find anything under edit defaults, or tools, where else to look?

  11. I have a sliver of ceiling that want stay put. It is at the point where I had used an invisible wall to separate the game room sections in order to get the ceiling height the same. That's because the room above has a step down which lowers the ceiling below, and when I tried to use the ceiling height in the game room to set the height all the way through the room the ceiling in the area under the step down, did just that, stepped down. In order to get the ceiling height the same, I added the invisible wall and set the ceiling height in both spaces until they were the same.

Until just now, there was NO ceiling sliver, I am not sure what caused it to show up now. It is definitely there because I can color it withthe paint tool, but I cannot select it to move it into place; or delete it.

I removed the invisible wall, and the ceiling drops down (the distance of the step down above which is natural) in that area.

I tried using a room divider, and the ceiling raises back up but the sliver of ceiling comes back and is still there.

I'm posting the plan along with the screen captures of the issue.

    Thanks!

    Current Progress Set 2.18.2015.zip

  12. Apparently, sometime during modifying a terrain feature, I must have turned on "interpolating" while building terrain, now every time I make a change on the plan, before I can move on I have to wait countless minutes for it to rebuild terrain/interpolate, can I just turn that off? how? or do I have to turn off auto rebuild terrain?

  13. ME TOO!

I'm not taking any more chances. I had auto save set for every 10 minutes on this plan (maybe over-kill) but now, although I left that on, I'm still saving with every update to the plan as I work on it.

  14.

Not an expert but but you have selected Roof Plane Specification. On that tab - Roof Layer. Ceilings are ticked.

Your room (porch) does not have a ceiling.

When  un-tick ceilings  the roof/ceiling problem disappears. Does this solve your problem?

It maybe the ceiling height of your porch and the roof height are not correct.

Well ED, just a simple matter of removing the check from use room ceiling finish. I suppose I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT, but not sure where I would have learned it. SOME ONE tell me it's in the user guide or manual.

On to the next challenge! ;-)

  15.

It is hard to say what the cause is. If you can find some steps to reproduce the problem that would be ideal.

    I know that isn't a great answer.

You could check your disk for errors using chkdsk to see if there is any corruption, but that is unlikely the cause as if you did have disk corruption you probably wouldn't have been able to open the plan. Although Chief has some fault tolerance built into the file that may have allowed it to open a corrupted plan.

Really not sure?!? I just opened the file I emailed to myself and copied/pasted the missing door/transom unit back in. It is fine now. I did experiment with save/close/reopen and everything is fine. I had a similar issue (when my boss was actually at my work station) I had to close the plan and reopen because of an error message that CA had stopped working. Upon reopening the message asked if I wanted to open the newer auto save plan which I did. Upon opening the boss noticed that ALL of the horizontal siding had changed to vertical. I selected a wall opened the dbx the material hadn't changed just the pattern direction from horiz to vert. I simply clicked on the mat'l image in the dbx and the direction changed back to horiz. Problem is, I had to go to each wall of the entire perimeter and repeat that operation. I was not able to group select and do it all at one time so I lost some production time.

By the way, I set the default before starting the plan to Horizontal, and when I checked the default the pattern was horizontal, so I have no idea why it changed, I just know IT DID.

Right now IT'S NOT WORTH me trying to find the cause/cure I just need to get the job done.

  16. WELL! The CA X6 grimlins are at work again. I hadn't posted anything previously about disappearing work, although ever since I began the Lake House project (using X6) I have had work I did the day before, mysteriously disappear from my SAVED PLAN.

I know I will most likely be asked to enter a ticket, and as my past luck has been with HD Pro products I will get the answer back that tech could not duplicate the same results. BUT, I am curious if I am the only "FREAK" CA user that has had the work they did, updated and save the day before missing upon opening the last updated plan file?

YOU WILL ask the question, if it changed like that, then how did you come up with the good-bad copies of the plan, simple-I emailed that last plan (zipped file) to myself just in case. That plan opened ok, so why then did the plan I have saved to desk top have the elevation changes? I'M TELLING YOU it was the CA Grimlins!

No matter, I've been saving each up date, as I learned it PAY's TO SAVE!!!! Now I can just simply copy and paste the work back in.

But, either the Grimlins are imbedded in the software or Murphy (I'm not sure how he got my security code) decided to get involved! No matter it's just time, RIGHT?

  17.

    Post the plan?

BTW, I draw most of my roofs 'manually' also...

Interestingly enough, I was recently chastised (of sorts) for attempting the original roof "manually" and several said they draw their roofs using the "auto-build roof tool" and adjust it manually.

The BEST help on roof's yet, came from Glenn Woodward, who suggested using make roof plane polly line and in most (if not all cases) I wouldn't have the fumbling-stumbling roof problems I've had on the lake house plan that fixed (most of the big issues on my roof), which by the way was my first attempt at this large and complicated structure jumping from HD Pro 10 to CA X6. I imagine ALL OF YOU have started somewhere, to wind up where you are (using CA X whatever version) so I DON'T feel intimidated, I will improve with every mistake and probably learn to FIX most of them with the idea I AM NOT ALONE in the march toward perfection!!!!!

I will stay with it until I fix it.

    Thanks!

  18. Well, the one thing I'd not tried was breaking the wall on each side of the porch roof, then open each wall dbx seperately and play with the roof return dimension until it membered with the porch roof. Problem solved (but the time it takes to figure it out is time I can't charge the client).

There probably is an easier way, BUT; then again this may be the answer? At least this time it worked for ME.

  19. Check the "Framing" tab of each roof plane and you will find that your settings are forcing the unsightly results, adjust those settings to reflect exactly how you are actually building.

    DJP

David, you're always great to help. I opened the roof dbx, chk'd framing didn't see anything unusual, compared it to the other roof's dbx's where the soffit ISN'T exploding and the framing is exactly the same.

LIKE ALWAYS, I'm sure I am looking in the wrong place, but that's because I don't know where else to look!

  20. Client wants roof returns.

I added them using the auto roof return, however I cannot find a way to break them on each side of the porch roof (see the existing summer house) clips. When I add the auto return up to a point (=/- 100") or so it bulds fine, but isnt full length. When I make it (by dimension) full width of the house, then it cuts off the fascia on the right side of the porch roof.

BELIEVE ME, I've searched for the EXACT or nearly exact issue, but no easy find info. SO, I KEEP COMING BACK HERE WITH QUESTIONS!

Maybe in my past life, you could grab the roof return and drag it as far as you wanted it? CRAZY I should think that? But, I can't grab it in plan, elevation section, or 3D and drag it.

TELL ME IT is something simple? I'm pretty simple; so why can't I find it? I shouldn't think they'd have to be built manually. OH yes, key word search on forum "roof return" did bring up a couple of things I tried, but the same thing happens.
