  1. I want to build the exterior walls to be 10' above the sub-floor, but I want the second floor joists to be 8' above the sub floor.  The 2nd floor joists will be hung off of the exterior walls.  There used to be a check box for "lowered ceiling", which since the late1990's is  something I never used, but when I looked for it today I can't find it.  I am not even sure if that was what "lowered ceiling" really meant, but at any rate how do I keep the walls at 10' and the floor 8'?
    Thanks,
    Lane

  2. Before I try this, is it possible to have an "Existing Walls  Saved Plan View" and another "New Walls Saved Plan View" (together  with fixtures, appliances etc) so the New Walls Saved Plan View can be superimposed on the "Existing Walls Saved Plan View" thereby showing the relative positions and alterations between the existing and new walls?  All of the information on the "Existing Walls Saved Plan View" would be dashed lines to differentiate between the two saved plan views.
This is a remodeling job, a simple ranch home where the new plan will change some existing walls and there will be a room over the garage with interior stairs to reach the floor over the garage.
If there is a training video for doing this that anyone knows of, can you please post the link?

    Thanks,

  3. I want to set plan defaults for a first floor ceiling height of 97-1/8" using a 2nd floor joist of 9-1/2" and a 3/4" sub-floor.

The problem is the 2nd floor framing default is factory set at 12-5/8" (3/4" sub-floor and and 11-7/8" joist?) How do I change that?
In the Stair dialog box, the total rise is set at 121-1/2", and it should be, sub-floor to sub-floor 107-3/8".
How do I set the values to reflect the desired plan conditions?

    Thanks in advance.

  4. I was on the phone yesterday with tech support for over an hour trying to figure out why a cad line on a certain layer in a certain drawings has two colors!

When the  line is drawn horizontally, it is blue (the line is supposed to be blue).  If drawn vertically, the line is black.

When drawn horizontally, then turning a segment vertically, the horizontal portion was blue and the vertical portion black.
Disconnecting the cad line segments is no help either, as the segments retained either the blue or black depending on the line orientation.  I did not try to draw one at an angle for fear of blowing up my computer.

Tech support tried everything...reinstalled video driver, checked drive for errors, checked program for problems.  I uploaded the plan to tech support and on their end she said it was performing as it should.  She tried everything (she was great, and should probably get a raise) but to no avail.
I was just wondering if anyone has ever had an issue like this.
It is only in that one plan, and only on that one Cad Layer.

  5. The stacked windows in the gable wall show up as they should in an exterior elevation view.

I would like the window labels for the stacked windows to show up on the second floor plan view.  They show up in the attic wall above.

The roof is scissor trusses; 6/12 roof and 3/12 ceiling.  The ceiling trusses show up fine in an elevation view when I hide the exterior wall.

    So I have two questions.

First, why is the gable wall split into a wall and an attic wall?
Second, how can I get the stacked window labels to show up on the seconf floor plan view.

The plan and screenshot are attached.

    Thanks in advance,

    Lane

  6. I am trying to align the upper wall, a pony wall, with the lower wall, a foundation wall.

I have all walls set to align to the main layer.
When I dimension the drawings, the foundation wall and upper walls do not align.
Wha am I doing wrong?  Plan is attached.
    Thanks in advance.

  7. I probably should have learned how to do this back in the 90's.
When I use the "tile window" buton, and there are two windows open, one for the plan view and one for the layout view,  how do close the layout view without closing the layout itself?
    Thanks in advance.
