Hello, I started a drawing of a shop that will have a mezzanine. After looking on this chat it seems that the only way to do that is build another floor and label the non mezzanine areas as open to below. I did this but now there is a line in the elevation drawing at the height were the "imaginary" floor of the second level is. Is there a way to get rid of this line? and also is there a simpler way to build a mezzanine? Appreciate your help! Mezzanine.plan

Thanks for that Eric, I wonder if I was doing that wrong on the other plan too. Appreciate your and everyone's help on this forum!!

Thank you!! Yes it does and earlier this morning I watched Micheal's great video about building that brick chimney, that I think you had asked him about some time ago. However I still wanted to post the question because I was hoping to get some advice on the possibility to reverse a wall direction when it comes above a roof. I seem to have trouble with this in other situations such as when I do a split entry house. Thanks for your help!!

Hello I'm looking for expert advice again. I started a model of an existing house and it has a chimney. I used walls to build it and altered the roof to go around it and was thinking to cap it off with a Polyline Solid. However the one wall on the back of the chimney, I can't get it reversed properly because it is part of the main wall so if I reverse it the rest becomes drywall on the outside. Is there some way to reverse a wall above (or below) a roof? I tried to build a wall on top to have two separate walls but that wall bottom started at the top of the chimney. Appreciate the help! I attached the plan but its still very preliminary. Thanks! Chimney wall.plan

Here is the plan. Floor coming through wall.plan
-
Hello again, Can someone help me out with explaining the reason why the floor is coming through this wall. I tried all the options I know such as changing the framing to "stop at ceiling below" or "go through floor below" and "Balloon through ceiling above" but none work. I also tried changing that portion of the wall by selecting "Lower wall type if split by butting roof" but I can not master it to have it disappear. I looked on the forum to see if there was a similar problem but the best I can do is change the shape of the walls so the siding becomes drywall instead of siding but the floor edge keeps peeking through. Thanks in advance for your help!!

Thanks so much for answering the extra questions and the additional advice Eric!! Got it all fixed

Hello, Wasn't trying to say he wasn't right . I have a lot of respect for the knowledgeable people on this forum . Thanks both for your helpful help, I really appreciate it!! I got it fixed and looking how it is supposed to. I do want to sneak in a final question yet and that is on the one dormer the hole in the roof had to be on the inside of the walls and on the other on the outside of the walls in order for it to work. Would there be a reason for that? Also, there is that wall by the kitchen wall that only goes up 8' like it is supposed to but it doesn't have a cap and on the ceiling or roof there is a opening the size of that wall. Any hints for that? Untitled 4.plan

I thought to make a "Hole in Ceiling Platform Polyline" but this is the message that keeps popping up. (I did that in your plan Eric) (The customer wants to have the front entry open to the dormer)
-
Thanks a lot for that. That fixed the living room dormer but the dormer by the entry isn't open to below anymore when I take that back wall out. Is there another way to have a dormer open to below without creating another floor? Thanks!!

This is the plan, Thank for anyone's help!! Untitled 3.plan

Hello, Can someone tell me how to fix this. Every time I get close but not close enough. I needed to have these dormers open to the floor below so I added a second story and did open to below but now everywhere else in the house it added height to the main floor (I think the floor height of the second floor). What should I have done differently? I only need a 8' ceiling. Also, I still struggle to get the dormer roof planes to tie in nicely with the main roof. I watched the videos and am trying the join roof planes function for both the hole in roof and actual ceiling planes. The plan is to big to add to this post, so will add separate post

Thanks, yes makes sense. I will go for a 12" overhang on the shed roof and 18" on the other one. Thanks both for the input. Chief Talk (with people on there like yourselves) is very valuable!!

Thank you very much Eric, I cleaned it up and it worked. I did see that the back still has the lines going through. I offset the roof planes slightly which made the lines disappear. Is there a better solution, because I would rather not do it that way?
-
Hello Experts, Is it possible to have these roof lines join seamlessly? What I mean is that on the 3d viewer the roof shows how it needs to be however on a elevation view there are extra lines in the fascia which to me seem like they are from the roof planes "remaining individual". I don't like it how the elevation views show up on my construction drawings with the additional lines and was wondering if there would be a solution? Many thanks! Untitled 2.plan

Thank you very much!!, sorry for the late response

Yes this plan was started in X10. I'm not sure if you were asking me but in case you were, feel free to send it on to CA for fixing. I like your changes. The garage is an addition so I have to work with the house as it is but your version sure looks very attractive. Wouldn't mind if you posted the plan so I could learn how you did some of those features . Thanks for your help again!!
-
Thank you very much, that worked!! This is for a customer that is still in the preliminary stages. Since they are still making changes I was using the auto roof build function to make fast changes. Now that I have edited the roof, if I use this function again it will remove those roof edits (if I'm correct.) What advise would you have for this situation? I don't want to spend a lot of time making new models in terms of customizing the roof till they are more certain. Is that the only possibility or is there a function that can freeze or block a part of the house and nothing changes to it? This would also be helpful in any renovation or addition when the model of the existing house is made. Appreciate the help!

I'm having difficulty with this garage addition. I want the garage wall and the gable wall of the dormer to be one wall so that the roof is broken up or away in front of the dormer but I can't get it to do that. I tried with both making an automatic dormer and a manual dormer. Would it have to do with the fact that I have selected "Ignore Top (2nd) Floor"? Thanks in advance for your reply! Dormer Plan.plan

Yes I did at the beginning unless it switched again.... You design all your houses prescriptive? Do you also fill out the paperwork for the builder/homeowner to go with you plan?

Mick, I just recently got this computer from a computer company (Nuvex Solutions) who custom built it. I can't say I'm completely happy with the graphics yet because it still slows down some times (just now the program completely quit on me as I was doing a ray trace). Having said that I'm not a computer tech guy so there could easily something else wrong with the program or computer however I would get a higher one if I had to redo the purchase.
-
No offense at all, but I live in the same province as you and the inspectors in our area now require that every house has the documentation to ensure the house is prescriptive or trade off etc. with the new energy code. I figured he would have the square footage also of the wall.
-
Yes completely agree! I decided for now to send it off to the energy evaluation guy and he will give me the data. When I have a more in depth knowledge of the program I will make an attempt at figuring out those things. Appreciate all the feedback!

Thank you for your reply! I will give it a try and check it out
