  1. If you are going to be raytracing on a regular basis, I would look into a new PC. However, try this. 1. turn off soft and regular shadows on the lamps. That takes a LOOONG time in any raytrace setting. 2. turn up interior ambient light to 99% 3. Raytrace at a quick set up, 8 passes, change lighting properties to use ambient inclusion, set min/max to 1/5, advanced--leave everything checked off, and image properties, use tone mapping. I did not add any additional light sources (I probably would in this plan) 8 passes took just over a minute. you can also play iwth the image properties to adjust brightness, contrast, etc. after. Quick setting will get you a crisper, quicker look. Although not as photo-realistic, it will get the job done. Just my .02...
  2. Larry, I notice the ssd helping with undo, and accessing info quicker. You have to make sure you have it connected to a 6gb/sec cable and in the proper sata slot to get the most out of it.
  3. I will, my 2600k boosted to 3.8GHz stock, and I ran it at 4.7 for a little more than 2 years before performance started to erode This processor is 3.0, and I think I can get it up to 4.7 again. I have a ton of fans, and liquid cooling. Those images were all in the 1 min, 20 second range at base clock. I should be able to update it next week.
  4. I use a knee wall set the the height, and make the glass and the door out of polylines. I have some polylines that I mocked up for hinges and brackets and have them saved, but there is shower hardware in the chief library now!
  5. For the last 2 1/2 years (up until last night at about 9:00 actually), I have run a 2600k Processor, overclocked heavily, and it had made raytracing a breeze. I just upgraded (in the wee hours of the night) to the 5960X 8 core processor. I have not been able to overclock the CPU yet, but the attached images would have taken 3-4 minutes with my old processor, and are at just over a minute now. I expect the time to go down to 50 seconds or so, after I tweek. I do a lot of raytracing. 50-60 images a week, so if I save 3 minutes per image, over 50 weeks, that is 150 hrs of time! The processor, motherboard and RAM (they needed to be upgraded also) set me back a little over 2K. I expect this one to last 2 years. Get the most amount of cores you canafford, and get the fasted speed out of your processor. I use 2 video cards, not in SLI, with 3 monitors. Samsung (I think it is there Pro series) SSD. 128gb for the OS and programs, 256 for my project and chief files. Good luck with it!
  6. thanks Lew. I will see if they can do anything. Kevin, we sold our sole to Google about 3 years ago. Email, calendars, phones, folders, crm. Everything is integrated and we cant go back now!
  7. Google somehow figured it out with Microsoft files. Just a pain to deal with I guess. I know some of you larger companies out there have already dealt with the network issue (I seacrched), but I figured since it is on my actual computer and not on a cloud or separate server, it would be different.
  8. It's not just for collaborating, but for working on 1 file from multiple locations. Drive works really well for personal syncing of files, I wish it was compatible
  9. Does anyone successfully sync chief files with Google Drive? I know that chief files do not work well in network drives, but I thought I would be able to sue google drive since the file resided on my hard drive, and syncs to the cloud and then back down to other hard drives. I get an error message whenever I save the files to a Google Drive Folder.
  10. I took your suggestions Scott, and I got close but still could not get it 100% correct. I ended up using a deck as a landing (at least it build piers) and some polys to fake out awkward areas. it will be close enough, just can't show anyone leaning on it in a raytrace LOL! Thanks for your Help!
  11. If you are not showing framing detail in CA (assuming no with arch plans). Pull the wall back away from the pocket door wall, install the pocket door, then run the wall back up to it.
  12. Yes, I had the same thing happen to me. If I searched for a user item, it would show up, but if I selected show in browser, There was nothing. They were able to restore the missing items from the folder for me.
  13. ha! I chose the file, but did not hit upload. the actual file and screen shot are attached now Trostli draft 1.plan
  14. I am looking to change a standard railing to cable (panel) for stairs. I used the "follow stairs" mode, and for some reason it is making the top 1/2 go up to down, instead of down to up. I tried rotating the railing 180° but no luck. I tried breaking the rail into segments, but no luck either. Anyone know what I am doing wrong? referring specifically to the rear deck rail thanks!
  15. I just use a single oven and a built in microwave in a tall cabinet
  16. floor--Daltile Carrara Gioia M702 stretched to 48x48 wall--Daltile Carrara White CD M701 24x24 glass--Daltile Black SR62 basket weave (attached) shower floor/ceiling (attached) Thanks Scott! As for the upload, I was referring to the album. I had upload each image individually. And for the color, I tend to agree. Another version introduced more color to the room, but the client liked that it almost looks like a black and white photo (aside from the water and backdrop)
  17. Glass-standard. The same that is in the windows.
  18. Thanks Gary! It took a long time of trial and error to figure out something that did not take that long, and looked ok. Also, I don't have to contend with the awful shadows from the door lines anymore!
  19. Here is my shot. A bathroom that was fun to design! All raytraced in chief, each image took about 6-7 minutes Is there a way to upload multiple images? I could only do one at a time. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/gallery/album/56-master-bathroom/
