Glatomme
Hi, I recently bough a townhouse, and I'm trying to draw the house in chief architect the house before I select everything (colors, furniture, ..) But I'm having trouble on some part of my house, it's the extended part that has a flat roof (I don't know how to do this either). This part has a small raised piece that is surrounded with glass, with some support beams on the corners I've included 2 attachments of similar setups, but the idea would be that the top of my glass 'box' would be the same as a normal flat roof (that black material I can't find the name right now) I've included an attachment on how I see this; The top drawing is a side view, the middle drawing is a top view and the bottom drawing is a sort of 3D-ish drawing of the house and extended part. This is the current plan of the house (without the elevating in the roof, of that I don't have any plans yet) I'm currently using Chief Architect X8 Could anyone make something that has this included? so I can continue to design the house in that file. - and / or - Give me some instruction (or a tutorial) on how to do this? Already thanks in advance for reading this! Greetings Glenn
Rich_Winsor
Hey Glenn, you would be better off posting this in the General Q&A section. But that being said I think you can get what you are after. Here I used Polyline Subtraction to put a hole in the flat section of the roof (manually draw this roof plane and set it's pitch to 0). Then I went up to the second floor and built a little room around the hole. Change the Room Type to "Open Below". Put windows in the four walls and changed the roof material to Standard Glass. Put P-Solid frame around the top. 1
Glatomme
Looks a lot like the thing I want thanks!! gonna check on how to do this when I get home now just an small additional question: for a flat roof the borders are a bit raised (around 20cm), how would you do this?
Rich_Winsor
Not sure what you are referring to. If you want to put a raised edge on the flat portion of the roof just draw a line around the edge of the roof plane in plan view and convert it to a Molding Polyline or a 3D Molding Polyline. Then you can assign to it whatever molding profile you like. Here I added an approximately 20cm x 20cm (8" x 8") border to the roof plane. xxx 1

Or can you upload the plan u use in your screenshots?

OR ...just select the roof plane and then click "Create Hole"... OR ...select your plain polyline, click "Convert Polyline" and then select "Hole In Roof / Custom Ceiling" from the list... OR ...Build>Roof>Skylight. Draw the skylight, open the DBX and uncheck "Skylight". There may be other methods as well. But those are a few options. Rich_Winsor
You need to highlight the roof plane that you want to put a hole in and then click on the Polyline Subtraction icon. Can't seem to find the plan, not sure if I saved it, but here is the process I used.

Thanks for the guide! but when I tried to remake this, the skyroof worked, but i had some problems with the walls on the next level. and the indoor wals didn't seem to behave correctly - see the checker wall still having some plasterboard on the right - they drop about 20 cm below the ceiling I've included the roofplane setup and the settings of the room below. you can download the .plan here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2-ArxcNDzdQb19id1JMSnYzN1E/view?usp=sharing
Rich_Winsor
Had a quick play with your plan. Cleaned up a few issues and finished off your "glass box" on the roof. Your hole in the roof was considerably larger than I had envisioned. Hope this helps you out. issue.plan
