anamariadesigns
Hi Chief Architect Community Team, Hi everyone, I’m looking for some help creating a Chief Architect file from existing plans. I already have a CAD file and a schematic plan generated through Matterport, but I’m having trouble getting the data imported correctly into Chief Architect so that I can begin working on the design. Ideally, I’d like someone who can help me create a clean, ready-to-use Chief Architect file with accurate walls, windows, and general structure already in place — so that I can easily jump in and start editing, designing, and making modifications from there. I have exterior, First floor and Second Floor. If you have experience converting Matterport schematic floor plans and CAD files into Chief Architect format, please reach out! I can provide the files and any other reference materials needed. Thank you in advance for your help! — Ana Maria 0_THE STUMPO RESIDENCE (1).dwg 0_THE STUMPO RESIDENCE (2).dwg
para-CAD
Use the files to trace the walls into chief. The two files seem the same........ How tall are the ceilings? what is the finished floor to floor height to confirm the stairs? Some of the walls range from 12" thick to 19" thick........... Someone will come along and send you a private message to discuss how much money they will need to solve this for you. There are many questions and unknowns so it could get expensive. Just putting a nice roof line on this (12:12 stick framed) will be challenging. Good luck.

para-CAD
I guess what I’m saying is you have not provided enough information for someone to accurately build this. You need to have elevations that show the height of things, if the stairs are drawn correctly then you can at least assume that each riser is somewhere between 7 inches and seven and three-quarter inches so you might be able to figure out floor to floor height. Ask Dan Baumann directly. He’s pretty good. The regulars that come in here offering their services to every single posting seem desperate to me. Now I’m waiting for my red down thumb icon. good luck 1

We pull remodel plans from our Matterport scans in the normal course of our remodel business.

I understand the specific challenge you're facing: getting existing data from Matterport and CAD into Chief Architect in a truly usable state. This initial conversion is the most critical step, and getting it right saves countless hours down the line. As a seasoned Chief Architect Professional Drafter, I specialize in precisely this kind of data translation and model preparation. I can take your Matterport schematics and CAD files and deliver back to you a fully-structured, clean, and accurate Chief Architect file for all three levels (Exterior, First Floor, Second Floor). You will be able to open the file and immediately begin your design work—editing walls, placing cabinets, adjusting windows, and creating elevations—without having to fight with incorrect layer sets, misaligned walls, or inaccurate dimensions.
