Elevations On Plotted Layout look terrible

Rookie question: How can I send my elevations to layout sheet and plot so that it looks good? I used technical illustration view setting for this front and sent to layout. When I plot to PDF, the fl plan looks great but the elevation looks like garbage and you can hardly see it. (See attached) Seems like I have seen a post on this before, but I have been unable to find it. TIA.

I think I figured out part of the issue. I printed to PDF and then Printed that PDF to half scale and the textures all ran together making the elevation look bad. I am now taking a different approach to see what results I get. If there is any wisdom that you guys can provide on that I would love to hear it. Thanks.

The simplest settings are using a Vector View technique and then sent to Layout using Plot Lines and using the Edge Line Defaults and Pattern Line Defaults.

My own preference is to use Plot Lines and only Pattern Line Defaults as I prefer to control the line weights from the layer set used in the elevation view. In Layout, I then set all the Pattern Lines to a medium-light grey color with a line weight that's about 1/3 as heavy the line weight used for roofs, walls, etc.

Further graphical improvements can be made by

• adding the use of shadows to the elevation view
• using the Depth Cue (where appropriate)
• using transparency for glass (not opaque in the Rendering Technique Options for Vector View)
• turning on color in Layout.

Each additional technique takes some additional time and tweaking but adds to the graphic quality.
