Hello,

Thank you for your question and for your interest in Chief Architect.  Your monthly subscription will auto-renew unless you let us know you would like to cancel.  If you cancel the monthly subscription, no further payments will be charged, and the software will stop working at the end of the monthly period.  You will find additional information about our subscriptions on this FAQ page.  https://www.chiefarchitect.com/software-subscription/#faq

Feel free to contact us at 208-292-3400 with any questions.

Kind regards,

Derek

Has the switch to a SaaS-only model increased overall sales, or have you seen a loss of customers due to the higher costs for small businesses and individual users? Offering the software for purchase, along with the SSA support subscription, would make it more accessible and set you apart from competitors like AutoCAD, which is the same annual price.  As a hobby designer who bought the software back in X10, I do appreciate being able to keep my investment updated via the SSA subscription, but if it was $2k a year just to use it, that would put it out off consideration and I imagine that would be the case for potential one-person shops and individual buyers as well.

This is the reason why I'm stuck at X14. I would have been inclined to upgrade every other year, but the subscription model is pushing me toward Revit, which costs significantly less ($14/yr) with discounted licenses.

I'm still struggling with the answer to what happens if I cancel my monthly subscription (Hint I design, then build, then design so I don't use the software full time..) The above response indicates the software stops working. Does this mean there is no longer a trial version with the reduced functionality?

If not, can I repurchase another month and reactivate the software at any given time? Does this happen online or do I have to call?

My goal is to use the software ethically so please don't misconstrue the next question. If the trial version is no longer available after I cancel my first monthly subscription, can my wife open a separate account that would be able to at least work with the project I created? The software is quite expensive for my on-again-off-again use so I'm trying to formulate a plan to pay for the full functionality when I use it, but still have the work I created accessible in a minimal way.
