Chucky843 Posted March 2, 2015 Share Posted March 2, 2015 Hi there, Im working with X6 Pro, Below is a picture of the project im working on. Im having problems with the roof for a 1 1/2 story house. What is the best way to go about what im tring to accomplish. I want to have as much space as possible for the 2nd floor this house will be built on a stem wall with a crawspace 3ft to bottem of floor joists. Kbird1 Posted March 2, 2015 Share Posted March 2, 2015 Raise the main roof on the House. From your images your house has a 0" 2nd floor ? Raise it to 36" though 42" or higher is better to allow furniture placement etc. if you only need/want extra room height in the bathroom then add a Dormer over the Bathroom only , though in that case I'd make it 10-12' long instead and give that front bedroom more space and extra Windows allowing cross ventilation. RevolutionDB Posted March 3, 2015 Share Posted March 3, 2015 Draw a section of your house, and measure and locate a line that is 84" (7 feet) above the finished floor. Our local codes require that at least 50% of a half-story room (like your second floor) be 7'-0" or above in order to be a legal bedroom/bathroom/living space. This will enable you to have a bathroom with enough height for a shower, and doors that aren't clipped. You can do one or all of the following to increase the height of the second floor ceiling: raise the pitch of your roof (10:12, 12:12, or more); build knee walls on the second floor (as suggested earlier) to raise the starting point of the roof, and/or increase the width of the house. It looks like your design has a narrow corridor down the center where you could stand upright. The knee walls are very low, looks like +/- 3'-0", so a person could not stand there. Hope this helps!
