User Interface: Did the Object Layer Properties for an object stop displaying automatically in the Active Layer Display panel?

I just found that I could right click an object to view and filter out the specific layers that this item is related to, but I could have sworn the Active Layer Display panel used to auto-filter out all of the layers that the object wasn't part of for a quick display.

 

Am I going nuts or is there a preference that will allow me to click an object to filter the Active Layer Display list?

Click on the "gear" button at the bottom left side of the ALDO.  Make sure "show all layers" is not checked.
