Jayne13
I can't seem to get the measuring tool to snap to the layer I want. I have tried the control and command keys, separately, to allow it to snap wherever I want, and it still isn't working. Ideas?
TeaTime
By "behind the drywall layer" I assume you mean the Framing layer -- that layer's not displayed. Try turning on the Walls, Layers layer.
HyperTrex
Can you post a copy of the plan for us to look at? I'm not seeing enough information to know how to help. Here's a KB article on how to back up a plan to send to someone else: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00987/using-the-backup-entire-plan-layout-tool-to-send-files-to-another-user.html
Jayne13
Hi TeaTime, Yes, that worked! And what would be the layer to measure a part of the exterior wall assembly? I would like to measure to the outside of the OSB, on the structural framing layer. See attached for image description.
TeaTime
Ah I think this is more about wall definition -- open that wall's definition and check it's layers and what groups they're in. You'll only get snaps at the exterior surface, interior surface, and then the lines that separate construction groups: the lines between Exterior and Main Layers, and between Main and Interior Layers Take this Brick-6 wall for example: The only exception is Main Layer Center, but it won't snap to the Housewrap layer for example, or the outside of the OSB. I'd have to move the OSB into the Main Layers group to do that, and that can cause some issues elsewhere. So in your example, if the Drywall, Service Cavity, and OSB were all in the Interior Layers then you should be able to locate it.
Jayne13
Oh, thank you! You have no idea how many hours I spent trying to get it to line up manually!
