Physically based rendering CPU, GPU, video cards

We have recently been wanting to do more with the physically based rendering, but the graphics card in my computer isn't capable of what we want. It's a pretty big investment to spend another several thousand on a computer when this one is still new. I'm curious about the Pro's and Con's of outsourcing the rendering, vs investing in a new computer? Or does anyone have suggestions on how they navigate the continued expense of the swiftly changing tech scene with not overconsuming/overspending on computers?

You can find laptops under $1,000 with a 3070 graphics card, which will handle PBRT. Probably can find desktops for even less. Personally, I figure on a new computer every 3 years or so, its a cost of doing business.

Depending on your current computer, you may be able to get the results you want with a new graphics card instead of a whole new machine.
