So my searches in the KB indicated that if I put a wall break in where I want to change the wall finish it wouldn't be a problem. Add BTW I did not use the paint tools, I opened the DBX of the wall to have a different texture (thin stone over 1/2" DW), but as you can see for some reason other walls also got the stone.

I did make sure the wall breaks are where they need to be, but just in case tried moving/deleting and reinserting the WB's, no change.

I thought I was doing it per the KB?

I don't know what the KB article told you to do, but make sure that you're modifying the exterior or interior wall material in Wall Specification>Materials, not in Wall Specification>Wall Types>Wall Type Definitions. This is the dbx that will change the material after inserting wall breaks:
