Skip_D Posted November 28, 2014 Share Posted November 28, 2014 Hi, Common situation. Stairs leading to 2nd floor, partially open for the 1st 4-5 treads at the bottom. Railing on the open side terminates INTO the end of the wall at about the 4th or 5th tread. Therefore, the stair case is approximately 5" wider at the bottom. NOT starter treads.
