Create wall niche in soffit

I am trying to create a wall niche in a soffit. And add recessed lighting in the wall niche. Any advise on how to do this. I am attaching an image.

Wall Niches only recess into walls.  You need to create a Solid or PSolid with the hole built in in order to emulate what you want.

I know this is an old thread but I can't seem to figure out how to get the niche into the soffit.  Can you please expand on your response with the exact tool and process (I'm on x14)?  Thank you!

I created the soffit and then created a 3D Solid and placed into the soffit.  This is just giving me the solid placed on the soffit.   Am I supposed to convert this to a hole somehow or am I just completely missing the mark?  Thanks.

I've used the tray ceiling tool before but the hole (or niche) needs to go into a space where there is no wall/ceiling (when its constructed a soffit will be created with a hole in it).  I don't believe the tray ceiling tool will work in this case.
