Related to Material Lists, I think......

I have actually searched for this topic and do not seem to find anything.  When putting an estimate together with the materials lists how does Chief orient the drywall?(if at all)  In the real world it all depends on the situation and whether it is commercial or residential.  I am trying to get the materials lists as accurate as possible so there is less take off work to do in the end.  If I switch from 8'  to 12' sheets does the program lay them out horizontally and get a sheet count, or does it just take the total square feet and divide it into sheets that way depending on what is on the wall layer materials selection?  My guess is the latter since I have not seen any option or toggle anywhere.  Thanks in advance.

CA only includes in the ML what is exactly in the Model and by default the program only uses 4' x 8' sheets , it is not smart enough to know to use a 10' or 12' on those length walls or Ceilings , so you would need to do that yourself in every room , same goes if you want to use 54" drywall for 9' stud homes, ie you need to assign 54" Drywall in the Model. Drywall is not one of the Default Materials you can assign beforehand AFAIK eg say if you wanted 54" sheets used throughout. I think is runs drywall horizontally though as that is the standard in Nth America.

The sheet Count is actually just the square footage divided by 32 sqft (4x8 sheet) , or was the last time I checked , might be okay for a base price quote but not good enough to hand to a Sub.

You could change or use multiple Wall Definitions to use 8' sheets, 10' sheets, 12' sheets etc I guess if the information is really needed.  YOu can also Change ALL ceilings for a Floor to use 12' sheets in the Ceiling Defaults for the Floor but that's not a great help as all ceilings are not 12'

Note the ML does not allow waste automatically or ANY of the small items needed like Nails , glue, caulk etc , ie not in the model = not in the ML.

about a year ago, with an X12 updates, thick wall connections (anything over 8" thick) became unstable...especially when 3 walls intersect.

I'm attaching an X12 plan that demonstrates several issues I'm having.  Curious if others see the same behavior.  notes within the plan describing the behaviors

I realize that layered walls will likely fix much of this but I do not like layered walls....they have a whole set of issues that I don't want to get into the pros and cons.  again, this worked fine before, but broke with an X12 update and is still broken in X13 beta.

      Appreciate everyone's input.

I changed the defaults for the Glass Pony Wall and I would now like to change them back to their original defaults, but I don't recall the original settings. Is there an easy way to do this?

I'm a relatively new user and am working my way through the Bachelor View project after the Chic Cottage project disappeared. I'm at video 6, "Creating Rooms and Defining the Ceilings" but I noticed something funky going on with some of my walls from the foundation/basement showing up on the first floor. I'm sure part of the issue is that some of my wall heights/foundation/stem walls are off, but the videos don't show what my defaults should be set to. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
      Thank you!

I'm having issues getting two joining external walls to have different materials and meet on the external corner ( pebble dash and brick) . I've checked my intersections and their mitered correctly and if i select ' through end/start' in structural for the wall it just shifts the issue to the adjoining wall. Please help?

When I place a window/door/etc. on a wall and type in the dimensions, sometimes it will move the edge of the wall instead of moving the window along the wall. (ie: if I have a 20' wall with a window on it, I want the length between the corner and the window to be 4'... instead of moving the window over on the wall, it will just extend the edge of the wall out past its original point so it's now 24'). Please help!! I'm not sure how to look up this issue so if there's a video on it already please direct me there!
