No opening for stairs from basement to main floor

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone.  Still very new to this software so bear with me.

I'm recreating my home in this software as I'm doing a complete basement reno job soon.  I want to build it here first so I can plan better.

I've added the foundation and walls and everything I thought I needed to do but when it comes to putting in the stairs from the basement to the main floor I do not know how to tell the main floor to open up.  The end result will be a door at the top of the stairs leading down to the basement.  With no opening for the stairs there will obviously be no door.

I've uploaded my plan, at least what I'm working with so far.  I've measured both the inside and outside of the house to get the measurements as dead-on as possible.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated......

I'm using the Home Designer Pro 2017 (64-bit) version of the software.

Help us by saying what software and version you are using.

Have you used the Auto Stairwell tool?

Thanks Solver.  I've added to my post the software I'm using...Home Designer Pro 2017 - 64 bit.

I have used the Auto Stairwell tool but it did not help me.

Are you getting an error message using the Auto Stairwell tool ?  (#272017017)

I am not really a stair expert but I was able to get the Auto Stairwell tool to create an opening with X9 by moving the stairs over against the Garage foundation wall.  If that works for you you could then move the stairs back the 5 11/16" and edit the opening manually.

Thanks. I will give this a try. Right now the stairs are just "there". I have not measured the actual location but it is fairly close. Is X9 much different than what I am using?

Yes X9 is the Professional version and has many more features but costs a lot more money.  There is a special forum for HD users also where you can get better software specific help.  https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/

I have designed a pergola and a deck. I cannot get the terrian to show right. It needs to be zero of level at back of deck by pool deck and slowly slope down to a bayou. it needs to be 36" to grade at edge of outer deck Then a stair going down to the end of stair which is around 5 fr lower that top of deck. I have not did much terrian and would appreciate your help. This is just a remodeling and adding a deck from the pool.

      Thank  you,

The living room offers a peek to the upstairs living area via the stairway. The glass panel railings and open concept design create a mechanism for the big windows on the first floor and the high shed windows on the 2nd floor to collaborate on the sharing of light and air between floors.

I'm not sure when this happened or how it happened but my ceiling isn't meeting the wall in the basement.  The separation is from the garage.  I created a brand new plan to make sure my heights all matched up correctly and they do.  Can you tell by looking at my screenshots what might be happening or what I need to do to fix it?  Photo on the left is the wall/ceiling in the basement.  The photo on the right is from the garage.

      Thanks so much!

I am stuck on this one. I have a railing at the top of the stairs that I can't seem to get rid of. When I delete it the stair opening disappears. When i re-add the stair opening the railing across the top comes back.
