  1. This reminds me of a good analogy... I am an avid car guy... Sports cars, and particularly Porsche.. When they started SUV development the outcry from the 911 core was deafening.. "They are diluting the brand".. "Dr. Ferry Porsche is spinning in his grave".. "What's next, trucks"??  Well time has passed and because of those SUVs the sports cars are better than ever due to SUV profits..

Generally new ideas are feared because of worry it will risk current productivity... Johnny has posted bits of his work and EVERYONE compliments him.. the feared architect.

  2. Those early and established tend to protect turf and not "tip the boat"... Even the long-term power users will tell you Chief can be a pain even for them... Imagine what it is for a new user, once they get into high end residential...? Is it too much to ask to move towards ease of use - i.e. consistency?? For 3d shapes to require you to remember which views in which this or that was created is an alien concept. It took me a while to figure this out because I ASSUMED it to BE view independent. If you can go from A to B in a straight line why in the world go through D first..? At some point you start to question your own IQ level.

So I started contracting out my Chief work out due to the difficulty in forecasting project completion time.

Ultimately Chief needs more resources to make greater enhancement every version.. Therefore a larger user base (Architects included) helps everyone here. So the question is "How do you attract more Users?"....

  3. Anyone notice he is in India? He may not have all the choices we have in the US... In third world countries zoning barely exists.. People are sold plots with no consideration of build-ability.. redefines "buyer beware"...

It is common to be sold land that is not legally owned by the seller with no recourse later..

  4. Johnny,

The grayscale does nicely reduce the contrast of the shadows on white.. Not sure of this "Footnotes for everything" convention.. just as easy to directly note the Elevations themselves to me.. easier reading as well. I've seen it on plans as well with everything seemingly on a schedule/list.

  5. 3D Mouse.........

The controls for the 3D mouse still work backwards from all other Cad software that uses the mouse. Move to the left on the Control...... mouse view should go to the left instead it goes to the right move control to the left house moves to the right........  pull the control out and it should zoom  larger........ Chief zooms smaller...........( Sketchup 2016, Rhinoceros 5, Autocad 2015, Solidworks, FormZ 8.5, Turbocad 2016  all move correctly............ and yes you can in the 3D Connexion ......Home reverse the Navigation but then if you are using other programs that use the correct orientation at the same time all the others are wrong......)

If 3D mouse is to be viable....... you guys either need to get on board with other software or allow changes with-in preferences.

    Kevin,

In Preferences --> Render -- Set 3D mouse to "Rotate About Camera Focal Point".. Then in a Chief 3d window Reverse all advanced 3D mouse settings. It then navigates exactly as in Sketchup, and I assume other programs. Profiles switch dynamically as you move between programs as each program has it's own profile.

  6. This is likely a "duh, you must be over 50" and forgot" moment. On a daily basis while working on floor plans the Rooms select way too often and gets in my way.. Ideally a triple select to select Room will be great. Once the structure is established, I rarely need to select rooms...

    A setting somewhere?

  7. Built my box last year and should have spent $300 more for a top end Intel CPU... Quite amazing how I was thinking at the time... wait.. i wasn't thinking.. DO NOT SKIMP on CPU!.. Besides video editing/gaming 3D Architectural software requires the fastest.
