Why is it that you cannot resize a revision cloud without it breaking up?  Why put resize handles on it?  Am I doing something wrong?

I use the ASCE 7-10 for loads.  I also use the AF & PA NDS Table 11E for lateral design values parallel to the grain for anchor bolt req.

It is not that complex anyone can do this.

If your plans need to meet wind load or seismic load then you will need an engineer.  Floor loads maybe.  If the lumber company is providing the trusses then they can provide the roof/floor calc's.  

I am not sure how to make a railing wall on top of a railing wall? Am I missing something?

What  I have done in the past is to use a base cabinet and make it 5" with a counter and no backsplash.  Turn the cabinet around to face the wall and put the spindle railing from the library on the counter top.  Has anyone tried this?

I'm not using a Mac.   Both CA and the other PDF writer use 600 DPI.  So the question was.....Why the large file with CA?  I know to use another PDF writer will fix the problem.  Just wondered what's up with the CA PDF.

I know this has been discussed before but I could not find the post it was discussed.  When I make a PDF with the CA PDF maker the program came with the properties were 10GB!!  It was just a cabinet plan.  I used a commercially available PDF writer and the properties were 300KB.  Why the difference?  By the way they both had the same quality.

Sorry if I scared anyone but if I know of some advise that could save anyone from a bad experience then I feel I am obligated to inform.  Like Perry says just do it and you will not regret it.  

Good advice so far on the legal front here.   So let me weight in.  After over two hundred cases that i have been involved in let me give some advice that no one has mentioned.  First check your clients out.  I visit the clerk of the court to see if they have been involved in ligtigation before.  If they have (as a lot of judgements) then I walk.  I also do a credit check ($8)  Do you have good chemistry with them when you meet.  Have ever worked with a home designer before? Problems with them?Make sure everything is also in you and your husband's name and no real personal net worth.  A lawyer WILL NOT TAKE A CASE if there is no big money to have (normally).  A good contract written by an attorney outlining how to resolve issues (mediation).  Limits of financial obligation (return fees).  Finally pay an experienced contractor to look at the drawings and critique the plan for any problems.

I had one case go on for two years and ended up in federal court, the 9th circuit court of appeals.  Plaintiff spent $500,000 on legal fees the defendent paid $1.2 million and  lost.  That was one repair/remodel that really got out of hand!!!!

Thanks everyone for the replies.  One interesting observation that I made was when I reduced the drawing to fit the sheet (8x11) it was a gray tone, but when I drew random cad lines/boxes and printed from plan view (full scale) I did not get the gray tones.  Odd?

OK....I tried Jon's suggestion and this is what I found.   

I made several beams.  First you have to save the solid as a molding (make sure you have moldings in your user library).  I tried using a soffit as a molding and at first it looked like it worked accept it was offset from the post.  I tried to adjust the origin offset but it would not adjust.   I then tried a line made into a molding and was able to adjust it so as to center it, origin offset again.

Is this the wat everyone does it or is there a better way?

Sorry i read your post and then looked closely at the title "post to beam" as in a porch.    I do not know any DBX for this.  When I have had a larger beam than the 8" shown I have made a polyline soild and merged it over the default

I pour this way (per Joe's sketch) sometimes.  There are different ways to do this kind of pour.  If it is shallow (12"-18") I will start at one corner with a pump mix and just fill to top of the footer.  By the time I get back to where I started the concrete in the footer has set up enough so as to not bleed through the back side of the form.  I have a concrete design mix for this.  For deeper foundations the forms are somewhat different.

But getting back to the original post I agree CA should give us more control over the foundation/slab DBX.
