  1. I just learned this last weekend, so I think I can help.   You're correct about the combination of stem walls and pony walls.

You need to create a new wall type for the upper section of the Pony wall.

    1.  Select a foundation wall, open it and check Pony wall

    2.  In the upper General section, hit Wall Type > Define

    3.  Select New > Rename it Brick Pony Wall or whatever you like

    4.  In the Wall Layers > Main Layer: Thickness > change it to 6"

    5.  Change the material to Plan Material > Concrete

    6.  Wall Layers > Insert 1" Air Gap

    7.  Wall Layers > Insert 4" > Select Brick as the material

    8.  For the Concrete layer, change the Fill Style to Concrete

    9.  For the Brick layer, change the Fill Style to Angle Hatch > 4" spacing > Red

    10.  Change the Brick line color to Red

In Plan view it will now show the detail of the Pony walls

If the Pony wall does not align with the first floor brick, simple move the Pony wall manually.

  2. I do not use Joe's method,  here is mine,  I assume they both work to some degree,  I like my method more.

I figured out why the framing was showing on the arch.  The height of the arch must match the difference in height of the side openings.  In other words if the side doorways are 80" high and the center doorway is 96", then the arch must be 18", or 96-80.  If the arch is more than the difference in height, then framing shows.  Setting the arch at 24" shows 6" of framing.

  3. I've tried to do this in CA unsuccessfully several times and have resorted to modeling it in Sketchup and importing into CA.

    (See Attached)

I'm certain this is possible in Chief, at least I hope it is.

Could someone explain the best way to accomplish it please?

I also am having an issue with wall ends not capping on Straight Half-Walls.

Was this not fixed in X6 along with the regular height wall ends?

    Thanks for the help,

    Toby

This is very similar to a question I just asked.  I want an arch with two columns.

  4. A drawing is attached.

I've tried to do this using an arched doorway but I wasn't able to eliminate the jambs. I also tried soffits with a doorway.

I'm lost for ideas, I'll appreciate your help.

I'm trying to build a round or elliptical arch with two columns on the side.

Second question; How can I build a deck wall to wall and a front for the tub that are covered with tile?

  5. When I have a question about what the local inspector wants, I always ask in the planning stage.  He/she appreciates that, it makes their job easier and I always pass inspection.  They don't want to turn anyone down and return for compliance, they want to pass it and move on.  Of course they must enforce the code but they'd rather see it pass and meet requirements.  I have a very good relationship with the inspectors because I ask up front in the few cases that I'm not sure.  Sometimes I ask their advice on design  or cost saving possibilities.

  6. Electro - New homes in some communities in my area of PA (suburban Philly) require sprinklers.  And cause a lot of headaches for some homeowners as well.

That's interesting.  Pittsburgh doesn't require it.  I remember the State voting it down.  People with well water were going to be required to have a large storage tank with gravity feed.  This meant it would be above the top ceiling and would require a heater to prevent freezing.  Can you imagine the cost?

  7. Well, I can draw houses, and I can build houses, but I can't seem to work a screen capture.

Screen Capture on a PC; hit "Print Screen" on your keyboard.  Go to the Desktop and Paste (Ctrl + V).  This will place the screen capture on your desktop.  You could also paste it to any folder.

Electromen: Very cool website. I should have known that they would have come up with something like that. Am I understanding the concept? You just plug the thing into any usb port and then you have an auxiliary programmable keypad?

Yes, It takes some time to program it.  After the initial set up it can be transferred to another computer.  You can also export/import and share the programming.  Companies sell pre-programmed systems for things like Photoshop.

  9. Take a look at X-Keys.  They're programmable keys that work with both PC and Mac.  I have them set up for Photoshop and Lightroom but I'm considering changing the setup to Chief.  You simple program each Key to your Hot Key list.  Each Key has a removable clear cap, remove the cap, slide in a label and re-install the cap.

  10. I don't see a walkout,Looks like exposed foundation to me. Can't see around the corner though.

     Have a Happy Day,Ken

It is a walkout, changing the walls to framed walls worked.  I had to move each wall back 4 1/2" to align the brick.

    I appreciate everyone's help.
