  1. Todd, I believe that if there is a 'Thread' running through many ChiefTalk Threads, it is that we'd like more control of objects and their default layers. This is another example.

I have often wanted to separate "Allowance" lighting fixtures from what the electrician is expected to supply - both on the Electrical sheet and the Schedule. What you are suggesting would be helpful.

How about posting this in the Suggestion Area?

  2. I made the symbol out of bricks and mortar - but, IT CAN"T GET ANY UGLIER in plan view.

From the side, it doesn't penetrate the wall! From the side this is clearly 'glued on architecture'.  But, it looks fine straight on.

Any & all advice is appreciated.

(Otherwise, I will create a Layer called Butt Ugly Capitals & Sills to be turned on for elevations, and off for Plan Views.)

  3. I spend most of my time with virtual staging for Realtors, and am admittedly rusty with exterior detailing. I know that this has to be simple, and have looked for a sample planset so that I could see the correct settings for this look. I have read the thread of 8/19/14 for an arch over a garage door, and will follow Joe's advice of making a brick+mortar joint and saving as a symbol then applying it to a trim polyline. I suppose that it would be on either side of the keystone.

Surely, this is reinventing the wheel.

I have attached a little plan. Please open it and look at the materials on the exterior trim of both windows.

The Capitol (Jack Arch w/ Keystone) has 2 materials - only the second one appears. This is out of the Basic Library that comes with CA X6.

The 3D Polyline Molding (Sill) has soldier course on the left window. On the Right Window is reg brick material. I used different brick that the wall to make it easier to see.

Also, there is no Center Tool for 3D Polyline Moldings - UGH! I love that tool!

Thanks for your time and help. If someone could post either a little plan with a window, so that I could see the settings, or a pix of the DBX I'd really appreciate it.

  4. Joe, That's IT!

In a 15" - 18"  cab. 3 bays would be appropriate. In a 21" - 24"  cab. my face frame vendor usually puts in 4 bays. I have never seen over 24" in a tray cabinet.

    Kraftmaid only makes a 9" cab., so 2 ea 9" for 18".

I am still thinking that having the software DBX specify the vertical partitions the way we do Shelves would be a more elegant solution.

    Appreciate everyone's help and thoughts.

  5. Cheryl - I JUST DID WHAT I DID BECAUSE OF WHAT OTHERS WERE SHOWING WITH POLYLINE SOLIDS. YOU WOULD HAVE TO HAVE AN OPTION

FOR OPEN DOORS ALONG WITH THE VERTICAL SHELF OPTION. only CA CAN DO THAT. UNLESS YOU WANT TO MANUALLY PLACE A DOOR ON A

SEPERATE LAYER AND TURN OFF AND ON AS NEEDED. You can also just designate as try divider base based on your cabinet companies nomenclature. I'm all out of options.......

Thanks, Dennis, I always appreciate your thoughts.

  6. Scott, I agree, it must be user error. But, It's been a long day & I can't predict when they will take leave and jump around, so I'll wait until I get a live example to post a plan. Appreciate your offer to help.

Most of the partition from companies like KraftMaid and Wellborne, for example, are just 1/8" thick rectangles with a clipped corner. The problem with Cabinet Parts is that you cannot Break them to clip the corner, this includes Soffits. Besides, It's just a pain in the Patoot. This is why I've been using poly solids, slabs, etc. I had saved the poly solid in the Glass House example sometime back.

I wonder if they don't like being inside a cabinet behind a door. Of course, I haven't asked them.

Here's a cool pull out from Wellborne.

  7. I personally would prefer a very simple method of creating different partition layouts within the cabinet dialog box ... as I mentioned, the vertical version of the horizontal shelves tools we now have.  I am not interested in spending extra time deconstructing/reconstructing symbols from the library or anywhere else.

One of the big selling points of using Chief is our ability to do lots of things with various 3D objects quickly and I appreciate that.  I appreciate that we can get creative with existing tools and get innovative and create custom objects if we have the knowledge and time to do such things.  For my project, I looked at the various specialty cabinets in my bonus library and didn't feel any of them were anywhere close to what I needed.  Doing one PL solid and then making a copy was quick and I was done.  I would have preferred to add the partitions via the dialog than using PL solids.

Cheryl's a real nice lady so I think she deserves something better .... don't you Chief?  I am all for vertical "shelves" with X17 .... OK?!?!  Maybe just a shelf rotate command ... that ought to be fun figuring out.

Thanks, CJ, I really like the shelf rotate idea. We could do # style Wine Racks behind Glass Doors for instance. Nice!
