  1. Did the job with 2020 and had some time to play with CA X9 ( because I wasted -0- time in 2020 trying to get a decent rendering).

Here is a plan and a symbol that works OK. I am not delighted that CA adds a CT when you make a Cab symbol - but it can be removed once placed in a plan.

The 'plan' has a 1.5" cabinet face in front of the CAD work. This way you can open and close the door, change the swing, and change the Door Style and Materials to your needs.

If you get into a jam, I hope that you remember to use this. We still need a way to modify cab sides and backs.

  2. Mark, Thanks for offering how to make a similar cab.

I should have posted a pic from the spec book.

After sleeping on it, I think that the only way to get this is with poly solids and a CAD 2D showing the super susan.

Also, I've noticed that the open drawers and door options are not available with cab.s not made from actual CA X9 cabinet components.

  3. I downloaded this symbol from 3D Warehouse as it will do OK for my immediate need. But it isn't the Masterbrand DAB36S (diagonal base with FH door and lazy susan) that I need.

I futzed around with CA X9 cabinet dialog box and just couldn't produce this shaped corner cabinet. It would be great to do this all in CA as then it would be subject to door styles, hardware and material defaults.

All guidance will be greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance, ~Cheryl

  4. Just a follow up as I read another issue with the Nvidia 970.

I called tech support and Nigel and I walked through several thoughts including trading plans. I found that using a 'packaged' template let me see the half wall - but not my own go-to template. My driver was from May 2017.

I thought that I had the latest driver in that when I ran the WIN 10 utility - it said that my driver was up to date. At Nigel's suggestion I went to the Nvida site and downloaded/installed a driver that was only a few days old.  IT SOLVED MY PROBLEM!

In the future, if I get something quirky as this was, I'll try the Nvidia site directly. Hope that this helps someone. My thanks again to Solver and Perry for taking a shot.

  5. I can't find a way to show "Railings" ,"Half Walls" or "Knee Walls" in a Wall Elevation. I've futzed with Layer Sets, to no avail. What am I doing wrong?

They show fine in a Full Elevation, why not in a Wall Elevation?

I'm sure this must be user error. I can go on working by using the Full Elev. but prefer a Wall Elev in Kitchen & Bath, Interior work.

    Thanks for setting me straight...

  6. Great News! The Federal Brace customer service dept. got back to me this morning:

    Good Morning,

We are in the process of loading our 3-D drawings into Chief Architect. Is there something specific you needed?

    Thank you.

I'm happy because I need the Anteris Island Leg and was about to guestimate the dim's and draw it in CAD.  It looks like we will be getting the whole library in the coming days, but should you need something specific until then, shoot them an email.

Another WIN for CA! (in my book)

  7. Thanks, Mark.

I am looking for Island Legs and elevated CT supports & stand-offs. I was hoping that the whole catalog would be in 3-D warehouse. I have sent Federal Brace an email asking for 3-D symbols and included that CA is my go to design software. Hoping that they respond.

Have you used the braces with LED's?

  8. I love Federal Brace products in kitchen designs, but they aren't in 3-D Warehouse. Any suggestions as to where I can get them. I just emailed Federal Brace and told them that I use Chief Architect, but I really need them before Monday.

    Thanks for your help!

  9. As many of you know, I had to learn 20-20 a couple of years ago (ver 9.6). I hated it. I now have ver 10 and hate it even more!  I work for a big box and 20-20 it shall be. I'm paid to re-boot and curse under my breath.

I really appreciate that Mark has again taken his time to so cogently compare CA X9 with 20-20.

I won't give the installers my CA elevations - but they have seen them and really want them over the POS elevations from 20-20 ver 10. May I mention that condoc's are done through Powerpoint. No fooling, Powerpoint!

I agree with the few shortcomings of CA X9 in that you've got to make sure that the specifying notes are clear with each cabinet. It can be easy to overlook ordering a matching interior when the rendering has a matching interior that you didn't actually set. Of course, if the customer sees a matching interior with an open door - then they could be expecting it without realizing there's an extra cost. Mark worded it well with "saving you from yourself."

I keep thinking that cabinets could have more check boxes in the dialog box or another tab in Cabinets for MIP, internal items and such.

I am passionate about my customers and will always deliver the very best renderings that I can. That means that I frequently provide CA X9 renderings to sell the job.  That means double work - sort of. I Love CA and I find it enjoyable to see the customers face light up with an X9 rendering - even of an 84 x 96 laundry room.  My passion and CA X9 has created a monster - my sales goals are the highest in our store because I have sold more month over month and year over year. Frequently, I'm at the top of the region's numbers. I am not on a commission either.

Bottom Line: if you want to sell kitchen/bathy/ laundry remodeling - Floor through light fixtures and beyond - do it with CA X9. If you ONLY want to sell manufactured cabinets and frustrate yourself, then spend a boatload of cash on a seat of 20-20.

    GOOD ON MARK!

  10. This is sure to be a "User Error".

Text String for Scale seems to be tied to the level of Zoom.

I sent a little Plan to a Layout Page at 3/8". I will be sending everything on this plan at different scales so page -0- I used the Insert %Scale% from the drop down. I was surprised that it wasn't 3/8" on page 1 but instead an unexpected result.

Is there a way to get the scale from "Send to Layout" on each page?

  11. Sorry that I had to miss this by working with 20-20! I still design, render, and sell jobs using CA. I code as I go. Once the job is just right with the customer, I do busy work with 20-20 to get pricing. What a PIA!

The installer(s) like the CA drawings coming from the NKBA Annotations that Scott Harris did. I just wish that the NKBA Auto Dim's were more useful.

Like Scott Harris, I'd love to see the video. I sincerely appreciate your time and efforts. Thanks!

  12. Do you have a way to place a second appliance (warming drawer, microwave, etc.) in a cab.? I have been fudging by stacking cabinets, and giving 1 cab the correct label while suppressing the other(s). I know that there must be a much better way.  Suppose that I could make my own symbol, too.
