  1. I have  4-5 Glass Materials to which I have added a green tint, progressing in depth of color. I do this so that glass shelves may be seen through cabinet door glass. It's also useful for showers and shower doors.

Depending on the use, you may want to give it an emissivity of 1 to brighten things up. In the future, I hope to futz a bit less with materials using PBR, but I love it! For my use, it saves me a good bit of time (over RT) because I can still edit an object if I see something not quite right.

  2. Mark, Thanks for putting on the meeting. I will be 'digesting" the information and looking at the Templates & Spreadsheets closely.  If I could conquer Cabinet pricing using CA without also using 2020 I'd become an independent rep for a dealer.

Currently, I work for the big orange box. I love consulting with their customers and showing how their space may be reconfigured, repurposed, or simply updated to reflect how we live in our homes today. Watching customers see their thoughts come to life with PBR is a buzz.

Loading (redrawing) the design in 2020 is a buzz-kill!

It's easy to verify that I am the designer with the highest sales/hour goal in the HD Region although I've only been with the company for 3 years. I'd leave in a heartbeat to be more productive (no time spent on 2020).

    CA gives me the JuJu.

  3. Mark, I know that you have invested hundreds of hours over the last 5 years working out a way to price (estimate) quickly using CA, not to mention all the great suggestions that you made and Chief incorporated into the Cabinets components. And, I can tell that this is causing you to invest more of your time to help the CA community.

I truly, truly, appreciate to opportunity to learn from you, ~Cheryl

  4. It has been able to dim to both fin walls, and framing (inside, outside, and center) for a very, very long time. You'll find the settings for dimensions in the Defaults area (looks like a wrench) and also in the Wall Types settings where you set the Main Layer.

Take a look at the videos on setting up defaults. CA is much more accommodating than 20-20 - the videos are a wonderful source to get you up to speed. My best regards, ~Cheryl

  5. I use the CA Cab Schedule all the time. Every time I make a cabinet that I may use again, I take the time to fill in the manufacturer, a Description, and the Nomenclature for that brand including spaces, dots, and hyphens.  I add it to the Library under that Brand. Over 3 years this has saved me a lot of time.

CA is so much faster to use in the design phase! You can actually be creative.

CA produces renderings that are far superior to 20-20's. (And make sales)

    CA can produce As-Builts

CA can produce the Framing needed to support the Cabinets.

    CA produces real Cross Sections.

CA can produce a Lighting plan.

CA can produce a Plumbing Riser

CA can show a Duct system.

CA has a decent CAD engine if you need to make a Detail.

CA produces Con-Docs that Builders, Architects, and Engineers can instantly read and understand.

20-20 was developed for Box Jockeys - In my not-so-humble opinion.

For a good chuckle, compare a CA Cab Schedule to a 20-20 Legend! Bah Ha Ha!

  6. I agree that it's a regional thing, or a builder specific thing, or a customer preference thing. Somethings it may be driven by the material and whether it's a crawl space or slab. But, either way - a quick polyline will give you what you want!

Where I was in Florida, the builder wanted "remodeling friendly" homes and installed ceramic tile wall to wall before cabinets. His cabinet vendor placed the shoe molding as part of the cab install.

Here in Huntsville, AL, engineered hardwoods or luxury vinyls are commonly applied over crawlspace foundations, and after the cabinets 'so the flooring guy can do his shoe molding at the same time."

Like Mark said, "Draw a polyline, or use a floor material region-open it will give you sq ft."

Your invisible wall defines a room that has no lights in so Chief is placing a light source (may be because the camera is in that room?) either add alight or delete the invisible wall and use a floor material region instead.

Thanks, Mark. Again it was User Error and not Chief. I was only given 2 dim strings and asked to design a kitchen. I have no idea what is going on beyond the L shape so I drew an Invisible Wall. I've learned from this experience! Thanks again, ~Cheryl

  8. Thanks, Again, Eric.

It looks like 2 separate molding lines are needed: 1 for the Base and 1 for the crown. I futzed with the little p-solid earlier and noticed that the invisible wall lines will actually move about a 32nd if you have to pull back an Interior 4 and then bring it forward again. Like you, I had to move the invisible walls several times while trying to align the p-solid. So much for a quick work-around by saving to the Library.
