  1. I only draw for permit plans.

    No 3D needed.

Not selling the job....job is to get the permit.

    Loaded M1Max MBP works great.

I run clamshell to 2 monitors, an ultra wide and a 43" beast.

ARCH D almost fits at 100% on the big screen.

  2. Rene.

I honestly have not integrated your template to its full potential yet.  That's on me.

(I think I suffer from over layering syndrome - lingering AutoCAD).

I create saved page views for all kinds of things, then I have to create different layer sets or I run into wrong text appearing on wrong sheets.  It's crazy.

I don't mind spending the $$$ to support your work....and yes I will keep trying to learn your method(s).

I will watch your video and see what I can absorb.

I still use AutoCAD for detailed production drawings where I have to dimension each piece for cutting and assembly.

Somethings in 2D are way more efficient in AC.

To a select few builder/framers, I provide sheets for rake walls and hand cut roofs that have each component dimensioned and laid out.

AC works in much less time than CA.

Alaskan son did a great job for me recently and I highly recommend his one-on-one approach.

I bought an area tool from Joe, way long ago, and I couldn't get it to work.

Support was absent so that is not a route I will try again.

    Just my 2 cents

  3. I just made a detail, in a new blank CAD detail window, using Notes and callouts, and a schedule.  It doesn't block...I'm betting because the schedule would cause duplicate errors.  I'm about to try some other things to see where the limits are.  I made a CAD Detail from view and it is blockable but all the filled areas are visible as long triangles and some other glitches.

  4. Are you using Create CAD Detail from View or not?

If that's a live section view, it may not be block-able.

Sometimes if you are using different objects....they won't block.

I don't remember what the criteria is exactly, but if you create a cad detail from view, then you're dealing with 2D lines only and they will block.

I had issues with my entire mac locking and shutting down when closing a 3D view during the X15 Beta, but not now.  Tech support will help you out.  Call them and report back with you solution if you can.

  5. Eric “Solver” has a video on YouTube that explains how he converts numbers into different format

I tried to add the direct link but a warning message said there was something wrong so here’s a screenshot of where you need to go. It’s in his video library somewhere

  6. The plans I would use to frame houses back in the early 90s would have the windows and doors identified with the foot number then a superscript inches followed by a dash and then the 2nd foot number and a superscript inches. I’ve never seen that on any software that I’ve used. I can’t even draw it here so I’m going to attach an image.

this method was used everywhere and it’s very easy to get used to seeing.

I use 2 Stream Deck XLs for extra key type functionality

    Wow.

    Just, wow.

I only have one XL and one 15 button. I never thought about using two at the same time. Thanks for that comment

  8. The whole internet is often snarky.............the solution is to not take anything personally.

It's just pixels configured into shapes conveying words from people (maybe) who you may never meet in person.

We are all each the most important people we know.  So, have a great life and chase what interests you!

    Y'all are great.

  9. I created this PDF to help me get a grip.....back when I started in CAD work.

All drawing is at 1:1 in model space.  For 3/32" text on layout (paperspace) the following applies:

Details @ ½" scale have text in model/plan space at 2.25" tall

Details @ ¾" scale have text in model/plan space at 1.5" tall

Details @ 1" scale have text in model/plan space at 1.125" tall

Plan files @ ¼" scale have text in model/plan space at 4.5" tall

Plan files @ ⅛" scale have text in model/plan space at 9" tall

Once you get your plan template set up, it will automate much of this text sizing for you.

Dan Baumann was the first person I bought training and a template from.

    He thoroughly explains this.

  10. Some things I would do if it were my stairs (see image marked up).

However, I'm a bit qwerky so I might tear the whole thing out and frame it new but I'd have to physically assess that on site.

You might also post this over at DIYChatroom.com

This might be more of a framing question than a software design question.

    Make it stout and safe.

That's a long fall if something ever fails.

    Best to you with this.
