  1. Sorry Basil, I can't help you. I used Corel Draw for many years and drawing curves, like Illustrator, is simple and very straight forward. I struggle with all the curves in Chief and have no solution for you. There is a drive way spline tool with very limited options and no way I could find to add a node or any other method to make the tool truly useful. Others may be able to lend a hand but I gave up a long time ago and just struggle through the process.

It was indeed a struggle, but after spending hours and hours trying to understand the logic of how to use the CAD tools to create simple paths, I finally got it...  I have to say though, I may use Illustrator next time and just export as a DXF for something this complicated. It should have only taken 30 min. to create this driveway in CAD if CA made lines like other vector drawing programs...  Instead once I got the basic gist of how some of the line tools worked and their unimaginable limitations I managed to effectively crank this out in about 2 hours...  after an entire day of learning and frustration...  I am satisfied...   None-the-less, this still is just an awesome application and just keeps getting better year after year.  I just think that in a subsequent release that they might want to consider taking a look at some of the basic functionality features and giving those a sprucing up...  Always good to get back to the basics every now and then...

Just to show you that it can be done:

Thanks for the tip, that's exactly what I needed... direction in the thought process on the how.   :D

I do have another question along these lines but I think I'll ask it in a fresh post so as to focus it in a slightly different direction.

  2. Hello Larry.  While I am not nearly an expert at CA, interestingly, I too have been struggling with adding a garage today to a home with an existing basement and having all kinds of anomalies with foundation portions of the Mono Slab coming into the adjacent basement.  So, the garage thing was fresh on my mind...

I do know that when adding a garage, there is no need to build a foundation separately if the garage will be on a monolithic slab as you had in your plan.

I took your plan removed the foundation on level 0 and then on level 1 added the foundation information to the garage in the room specification/structure.  While I'm not sure what that message means either, it will no longer be there with level 0 removed.

I've added the plan and shots back to show you how I manage to build my garages in CA.

I know that this does not necessarily answer your question as to the meaning of the message, but I hope this helps you with moving forward, I know what spending all day on something to no avail is like...

    Cheers...

Oh, and, providing my response to your  question just gave me the answer to my all day frustration...  I solved my issue!  Thanks!

  3. Why can I not covert a Spline Polyline to a driveway so that it will hug the terrain?  I have tried sidewalk but I get this error about a hole in a Terrain object.

OR how can I accomplish this more appropriately?

AND are there any decent thorough video training available on using Polylines in CA?  I am used to working with lines in Illustrator and they make sense, but working with lines in CA simply alludes me as it does not appear to be at all intuitive, such as I can find no way to join line end points to make a contiguous line...

I do not see sufficient detail in working with lines in the available videos on the CA website knowledgebase and have searched for hours.  Any suggestions on how to learn to use and work with lines in CA is greatly appreciated .

  4. Yes.  I see where it is working for you all with the plan I uploaded, however as Kbird1 indicated, it is not working for me.

I do not know what setting else can be the cause?

I have included this video of me checking the settings and performing the task of adding new cabinets to both in plan and 3D view.  Cabinets are still not applied with moldings from the default settings. However I am able to manually add them manually by editing the cabinet object.

Please note, I have also since installed X7 in a Parallels desktop virtual Windows 8.1 session and it performs identically...  Obviously I am doing something incorrectly.

Thanks for taking a look to see if I am overlooking something...  I appreciate and further feedback or suggestions...

  5. By any chance, in the main cabinet DBX to you have the cabinet Floor to Bottom set at Auto Adjust Height, Use Finish Floor. If not the small molding will be hidden by the floor material thickness.

Gotta run to a job site...  I'll look at this when I return.  Thanks.

  6. Why don't you just post a small plan with the set up and somebody will give you an answer in about 23.23 seconds.  Thank you.

    I've attached a new basic X7 plan.

I've tried applying the default settings after setting the defaults.

    I am obviously missing something.

Thanks for the help and input.

  7. I assume so since I am able to manually add the moldings to each individual cabinet object and they show up in the 3D view that Default moldings applied to cabinets would show up there as well.  Is there another place I need to check?

  8. I have set in default settings to apply a shoe mold to cabinet bases.  However, when adding the cabinets, the shoe does not appear in 3D views.

The only way I seem to be able to do this is to manually edit every cabinet and add the shoe mold individually.

    What am I doing wrong/missing?

    Thanks.
