Cloud computing is still in its infancy and its a rare occasion when core dll/ini or other native filetypes central to a programs execution are available for authoring and syncing...for many reasons, but namely, because of its implied volitility.

Need some clarification as to what exactly you are trying to sync; libraries, preferences, plan/layout defaults, toolbars? Dependent on what you are looking for I would recommend different methods or would encourage you to change your workflow. I see no reason to sync preferences as they are simple to duplicate and would only complicate things trying to sync them in cloud. Defaults settings can be saved using the SAM method or simply saving plans as templates etc. Toolbars can be synced using symbolic links, same as libraries...though more temperamental.

I was hoping for the following workflow:

    1. Deactivate licence at sit down desk
    2. walk to standup desk
    3. open Chief & activate license
    4. choose from Recent Files (which synced during my move to other desk)
    5. goto work... as if nothing changed

I am unfamiliar with the SAM method.

I have successfully used symbolic links before, but with new Chief 11, pretty much everything is syncing, except for preferences and the recent files list...  mainly because I cannot figure out where on a Mac that these files are stored/hidden.

I even moved the entire Application and everything to the cloud with symbolic links, but that still did not sync the Recent Files List, so it must be recording to a MacOS file somewhere???

If I could only just find this, but for now, I've manually configured my preferences and I know from where on my cloud synced drive to open my most recent file...  Was just hoping with Chief 11 for Mac, to get the Mac experience where we never have to think about setting up to sync anything...  many of my Mac apps ask now what preferred cloud storage medium we prefer to sync our configurations to whether it be DropBox, iCloud, etc...  and if you choose iCloud, they just setup a hidden space in iCloud and start syncing there...

  2. I am aware of how to manage my license and deactivate and reactivate on the other machines...

I'm also on a Mac and looked all through the OS including hidden files and files that may be buried in places it ought not be...

I could not find anything resembling the likes of an .ini file.  Called support they said they could not support that...

I guess I'll have to manually sync my changes...  seems sad for this day and age of cloud computing that it's not a simple syncing of a few settings files...

  3. Is there a way to sync the Preferences between multiple machines.  I see that you can change folder locations in X11, but it does not seem to affect the environment when opening Chief on another system...

I have a sit down desk, standup desk and laptop computers that I'd like to run Chief on...

I'd like to be able to get up from my desk and go stand at my standup desk and resume working with whatever environment changes I made to automatically appear without having to manually do anything.

I managed to get my Libraries all to relocate to the cloud and those all come through, but the environment is not the same across each computer.

  4. Those were screenshots of the content in Chief and then the clipped .DWG export in AutoCAD.

But, I figured it out.  I had had surgery the day before so was not paying attention and was exporting in inches not feet.  Must have hit a limit in inches that resulted in a clipped .DWG export.

When I changed to feet it exported the entire plan file without the clipping.

Moral of the story: “Never Chief while under the influence of narcotics.”  But my engineer was needing it, so I had to try.  Ha Ha.

    Thanks.

  5. Need to send drawing to my engineer.  Exporting ALL ON Set as DWG.

All the Layers are exported properly but the export as DWG is clipping the drawing.  What's set in Chief that is causing the export to clip?

    Thanks.

  6. Might be a silly question, but I designed a building and have need of pulling the entire building into another existing plan file, to place the building onto a different terrain model.

In essence I'd like to be able to design buildings as templates "so to speak" and import/place them in any subsequent newly created plan file...

  7. I could not toggle on/off on a Mac...  had to find the Default button to get it to go back.

But I did not have that Toolbar on and hunting for it was driving me crazy!  thanks so much!

My toolbars are all goofed up.

Any way to reset whole interface to defaults back to out of the box interface.  I'd like to start over...  ha ha...

  8. I have some saved plan views that somehow got swapped.

The Linked Saved Plan View called "Plan View" is showing electrical set information in my layout, while the one I have called "Electrical View" is showing my Plan View Set in my layout...

How can I rename the Linked Saved Plan Views or delete them and start over? I tried saving as the same name to be promoted to overwrite them and it won't allow that.

  9. When you move an object out of its default layer into a custom layer, how do you also associate the objects label with a different layer ?

For example, I made a polyline solid to use as a custom object in a plan, and I have moved it to a custom layer, but its text is still associated with Polylines, 3D, Lables so I cannot change the label text color without affecting all other 3D Polylines...

  10. When starting a preliminary site plan, in addition to the boundary survey and topographical map, I often include a scaled shot from Google Earth/Maps.

I paste the Shot in and draw the building envelope onto of the pasted overlay.

It would be nice to be able to reduce the pasted images' transparency/opacity so it is not so overbearing.

Any current way in Chief to do so without having to run it through photoshop first, like I did in the attached file....?

  11. Thanks.  Love the video. While I've successfully created a newel post with the dimensions 2.5"x5"x6' tall, I still cannot seem to get the railing to be rectangular.

No matter what I do, when I add my 2.5"x5" newel post into my 5" wide railing wall, when I set the Newel post width to 2.5" it makes it a square 2.5", and if I set the newel post width to 5" it again makes the a square 5"x5"...

I need a galvanized steel frame wall 5" wide with 2.5"x5" 5b8961ab03176_ScreenShot2018-08-31at11_35_47AM.thumb.png.9ec2de771517cfcaaae3b0094cd5db46.pngnewels spaced ever 60 inches.

I've included my symbols and the wall I'm trying to put it in...Steel Frame Wall.calibz

Any more tricks I can try?

  12. I need to make a railed walls with following configuration:

    Rails: 2.5"h x 5"w

    Newels: 2.5"w x 5"l

    Beam: 2.5"h x 5"w

Since Chief only allows for round or square and not rectangular newels & balusters, how can I create a library rectangular Baluster/Newel post that is 2.5"w x 5"l

  13. Is there a way to change the layer of labels.

I can change the layer of a meter base, but am unable to change the layer that label is associated with so it corresponds with the correct layer that an object is associated with.

For instance I have a Breaker Panel that comes in as an interior fixture, and I change its layer to electrical, but the label does not move to the electrical labels layer.
