  1. I'm also a OneDrive user and the only complaint I have is CA needs to make the User Catalog a collection of separate physical files.  Even with a 50/50 internet connection, my 15GB user lib can take upwards of 20 minutes to update--effectively locking the file--after I exit Chief.  If I try to open CA again before the update is complete...

  2. I'm having an issue in X10 using the Edit Area (All Floors) tool to rotate my site plan to a know reference line using the Make Parallel tool.  I select the terrain perimeter (on the line segment I wish to align with the reference line), then select Edit Area (All Floors).  I then select the Make Parallel tool, set to rotate the entire polyline, and select my reference line.  Everything rotates, but a line segment of the terrain that I did not select gets the perpendicular treatment.

I know I've done this before, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what user error is involved.

    See attached. (Notes in plan)

Altering the roughness and specular values should give you the control needed to get results similar if not the same as X9.

Brian, my issue is how X10 handles reflections in RT.  All materials ray trace differently vs. X6, X7, etc.  I can set materials that get good reflectivity in PBR that are dull--without depth--in ray trace.  As the Core Catalog materials are/were (I haven't tested all the released version yet) optimized for PBR, that means now I need to go jigger everything.  AND! And, all of the manufacturer materials had settings reliant on the reflective property.  Since that property no longer exists--well, my point is that something that was a known is now an unknown.  I would rather have seen a new PBR materials lib instead of the reuse route.

  4. Harry, CA, by default, will add a light to any room where there is none.  So, at a minimum, you'll need to add a light source to each room and then turn it off or adjust it to appear as you want.  As for outside stuff, the black point light only works so far as there is a room defined (see default light above) otherwise it's sun settings.  You must have either default sun or actual sun settings defined, then set it to black light color or a nighttime hour or both.

Once you get your scene sufficiently dark, then start adding light sources and fixtures set to give you the desired effect.

  5. Jared, sorry won't be at UGM--bad heart and all that it entails.  DropBox Business now requires 3 users, not 5.  OneDrive library features are only available through Office365 Business with SharePoint.  (SharePoint Online may be available separately, but I haven't looked into that in quite awhile.)  I'm fairly sure that https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/profile/75-johnny/ 's firm is successfully using SharePoint, perhaps he will chime in.

I'm not sure that I would try it with any other program like OneDrive, though.

File locking would not work with Dropbox or any other cloud services

Both Dropbox Business and OneDrive (via Office 365 Business and SharePoint) offer advanced file library features.  Not sure about GoogleDrive, as it's been years since I've used them, but I would imagine their business service has similar offerings.  That said, CA is not engineered for multi-user collaborative operations.  Therefore, any efforts will always be a kludge.  Backup early and often.

  7. Yes, I've had this happen.  Typically when CA is at the end of its useful session (right before a bunch of other stuff starts going wonky).  I now view it as a canary warning of my need to reboot.
